Surah Al-Hujraat - English Translation by Dr Kamal Omar
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تُقَدِّمُواْ بَيۡنَ يَدَيِ ٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦۖ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٞ
O you who have Believed! Do not go beyond ‘from in between the two hands’ (from the limits allowed) of Allah and His Messenger; and pay obedience to Allah. Surely, Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 1
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا تَرۡفَعُوٓاْ أَصۡوَٰتَكُمۡ فَوۡقَ صَوۡتِ ٱلنَّبِيِّ وَلَا تَجۡهَرُواْ لَهُۥ بِٱلۡقَوۡلِ كَجَهۡرِ بَعۡضِكُمۡ لِبَعۡضٍ أَن تَحۡبَطَ أَعۡمَٰلُكُمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ لَا تَشۡعُرُونَ
O you who have Believed! Raise not your voices above the voice of the Prophet; and nor speak aloud to him in talk like the loudness of some of you towards some (others) lest your deeds go in vain while you perceive not
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 2
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَغُضُّونَ أَصۡوَٰتَهُمۡ عِندَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱمۡتَحَنَ ٱللَّهُ قُلُوبَهُمۡ لِلتَّقۡوَىٰۚ لَهُم مَّغۡفِرَةٞ وَأَجۡرٌ عَظِيمٌ
Verily, those who lower their voices in the presence of Allah’s Messenger, they are those whose hearts Allah has tested for piety. For them is forgiveness and a mighty reward
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 3
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُنَادُونَكَ مِن وَرَآءِ ٱلۡحُجُرَٰتِ أَكۡثَرُهُمۡ لَا يَعۡقِلُونَ
Truly, those who give you a call (while they are) at a distance from (your private) cubicles, most of them use not (their) sense
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 4
وَلَوۡ أَنَّهُمۡ صَبَرُواْ حَتَّىٰ تَخۡرُجَ إِلَيۡهِمۡ لَكَانَ خَيۡرٗا لَّهُمۡۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٞ
And if (it was) that they showed patience till you could come out to them, surely, it would have been better for them. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, continuously Merciful
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 5
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِن جَآءَكُمۡ فَاسِقُۢ بِنَبَإٖ فَتَبَيَّنُوٓاْ أَن تُصِيبُواْ قَوۡمَۢا بِجَهَٰلَةٖ فَتُصۡبِحُواْ عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلۡتُمۡ نَٰدِمِينَ
O you who have Believed! If a Fasiq (one who is disobedient) approached you people with a news, then properly verify (the news) lest you behave with a nation in ignorance (and) afterwards you become regretful over what you have done
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 6
وَٱعۡلَمُوٓاْ أَنَّ فِيكُمۡ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِۚ لَوۡ يُطِيعُكُمۡ فِي كَثِيرٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَمۡرِ لَعَنِتُّمۡ وَلَٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ حَبَّبَ إِلَيۡكُمُ ٱلۡإِيمَٰنَ وَزَيَّنَهُۥ فِي قُلُوبِكُمۡ وَكَرَّهَ إِلَيۡكُمُ ٱلۡكُفۡرَ وَٱلۡفُسُوقَ وَٱلۡعِصۡيَانَۚ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلرَّـٰشِدُونَ
And do realise that amongst you (is) the Messenger of Allah. If he obeys you in the major portion of (any) matter, you would surely be in trouble, but Allah has endeared the Faith to you and He has established it in your hearts as something beautiful and to be proud of, and has made hateful to you Al-Kufr (disbelief and rejection), and Al-Fusuq (the disobediences and rebellions), and Al-Isyan [breahead of state the limits (set in Al-Kitab)]. Those people: they are those who stay in Guidance —
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 7
فَضۡلٗا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَنِعۡمَةٗۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٞ
(this becomes) a Grace from Allah and a Favour. And Allah (is) All-Knowing, All-Wise
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 8
وَإِن طَآئِفَتَانِ مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ ٱقۡتَتَلُواْ فَأَصۡلِحُواْ بَيۡنَهُمَاۖ فَإِنۢ بَغَتۡ إِحۡدَىٰهُمَا عَلَى ٱلۡأُخۡرَىٰ فَقَٰتِلُواْ ٱلَّتِي تَبۡغِي حَتَّىٰ تَفِيٓءَ إِلَىٰٓ أَمۡرِ ٱللَّهِۚ فَإِن فَآءَتۡ فَأَصۡلِحُواْ بَيۡنَهُمَا بِٱلۡعَدۡلِ وَأَقۡسِطُوٓاْۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلۡمُقۡسِطِينَ
And if two groups of the Believers are engaged in fighting, then make peace and reform between those two. Then if one of them went beyond limits against the other, then fight that (group) which crosses the limits until that (group) takes a turn to the ordainment of Allah. Then if the (erring group) complied, then make reconciliation between those two with justice, and be equitable. Surely, Allah likes those who behave in equality
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 9
إِنَّمَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ إِخۡوَةٞ فَأَصۡلِحُواْ بَيۡنَ أَخَوَيۡكُمۡۚ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُرۡحَمُونَ
Certainly, what (is a fact is that) the Believers are brothers (to one another). So make reconciliation between two of your (warring) brothers. And pay obedience to Allah so that you may be placed under Mercy
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 10
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ لَا يَسۡخَرۡ قَوۡمٞ مِّن قَوۡمٍ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونُواْ خَيۡرٗا مِّنۡهُمۡ وَلَا نِسَآءٞ مِّن نِّسَآءٍ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُنَّ خَيۡرٗا مِّنۡهُنَّۖ وَلَا تَلۡمِزُوٓاْ أَنفُسَكُمۡ وَلَا تَنَابَزُواْ بِٱلۡأَلۡقَٰبِۖ بِئۡسَ ٱلِٱسۡمُ ٱلۡفُسُوقُ بَعۡدَ ٱلۡإِيمَٰنِۚ وَمَن لَّمۡ يَتُبۡ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ
O you who have Believed! A nation shall not scoff at (another) nation. May be that the (latter) are better than them. And nor (shall scoff) women at (some other) women, may be that (the latter) are better than those (former, who scoffed). And do not defame your own persons, and do not insult one another by (allotting ridiculous) titles (or nicknames). (What) an evil is the name indicating Fusuq after (one has attained) the Faith. And whosoever does not desist and repent, then those people: they (very ones are) Az-Zalimun
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 11
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ ٱجۡتَنِبُواْ كَثِيرٗا مِّنَ ٱلظَّنِّ إِنَّ بَعۡضَ ٱلظَّنِّ إِثۡمٞۖ وَلَا تَجَسَّسُواْ وَلَا يَغۡتَب بَّعۡضُكُم بَعۡضًاۚ أَيُحِبُّ أَحَدُكُمۡ أَن يَأۡكُلَ لَحۡمَ أَخِيهِ مَيۡتٗا فَكَرِهۡتُمُوهُۚ وَٱتَّقُواْ ٱللَّهَۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ تَوَّابٞ رَّحِيمٞ
O you who have Believed! Avoid most of the suspicion. Surely some types of suspicions (are) sin. And spy not, and some of you shall not back-bite some (others). Would anyone of you like that he may devour the flesh of his dead brother? So (definitely) you people disliked and hated it. And pay obedience to Allah. Verily, Allah is Oft-Returning (in Forgiveness), continuously Merciful
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 12
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَٰكُم مِّن ذَكَرٖ وَأُنثَىٰ وَجَعَلۡنَٰكُمۡ شُعُوبٗا وَقَبَآئِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوٓاْۚ إِنَّ أَكۡرَمَكُمۡ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ أَتۡقَىٰكُمۡۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٞ
O you mankind! Verily We, We created you from a male and a female, and made you into sub-tribes and tribes in order that you may recognise each other. Verily, more honourable of you in the Sight of Allah (is that) who is more obedient amongst you. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 13
۞قَالَتِ ٱلۡأَعۡرَابُ ءَامَنَّاۖ قُل لَّمۡ تُؤۡمِنُواْ وَلَٰكِن قُولُوٓاْ أَسۡلَمۡنَا وَلَمَّا يَدۡخُلِ ٱلۡإِيمَٰنُ فِي قُلُوبِكُمۡۖ وَإِن تُطِيعُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ لَا يَلِتۡكُم مِّنۡ أَعۡمَٰلِكُمۡ شَيۡـًٔاۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمٌ
The bedouins said: “We have accepted Faith.” Say: “You have not (yet) developed Faith, but you (only) say, ‘we have submitted (to Islam)', and surely the Faith has not entered in your hearts." And if you obey Allah and His Messenger, He will not leave unaccounted anything out of your (good) deeds. Truly, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, continuously Merciful
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 14
إِنَّمَا ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ بِٱللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِۦ ثُمَّ لَمۡ يَرۡتَابُواْ وَجَٰهَدُواْ بِأَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡ وَأَنفُسِهِمۡ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۚ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلصَّـٰدِقُونَ
Certainly what (is a fact is that) the Believers are those who have Believed in Allah and His Messenger, (and) afterward do not doubt; and they strove hard with their possessions and their persons in the Cause of Allah. Those people: they are those who stand on truth
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 15
قُلۡ أَتُعَلِّمُونَ ٱللَّهَ بِدِينِكُمۡ وَٱللَّهُ يَعۡلَمُ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيۡءٍ عَلِيمٞ
Say: “Will you acquaint Allah with your religion?" And Allah Knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth. And Allah is All-Aware of every thing
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 16
يَمُنُّونَ عَلَيۡكَ أَنۡ أَسۡلَمُواْۖ قُل لَّا تَمُنُّواْ عَلَيَّ إِسۡلَٰمَكُمۖ بَلِ ٱللَّهُ يَمُنُّ عَلَيۡكُمۡ أَنۡ هَدَىٰكُمۡ لِلۡإِيمَٰنِ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ
They present it as a favour to you that they have accepted Islam. Tell (them): “Count not your Islam as a favour upon me. Rather, Allah has conferred a favour upon you that He guided you to Faith, if you are those who speak the truth
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 17
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعۡلَمُ غَيۡبَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ وَٱللَّهُ بَصِيرُۢ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُونَ
Verily, Allah Knows the unseen of the heavens and the earth. And Allah is All-Seer of what you do
Surah Al-Hujraat, Verse 18
