Surah Al-Araf Verse 176 - English Translation by Dr Kamal Omar
Surah Al-Arafوَلَوۡ شِئۡنَا لَرَفَعۡنَٰهُ بِهَا وَلَٰكِنَّهُۥٓ أَخۡلَدَ إِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَٱتَّبَعَ هَوَىٰهُۚ فَمَثَلُهُۥ كَمَثَلِ ٱلۡكَلۡبِ إِن تَحۡمِلۡ عَلَيۡهِ يَلۡهَثۡ أَوۡ تَتۡرُكۡهُ يَلۡهَثۚ ذَّـٰلِكَ مَثَلُ ٱلۡقَوۡمِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَاۚ فَٱقۡصُصِ ٱلۡقَصَصَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ
And had We willed, surely We would have elevated him therewith but he clung to the earth (i.e., to the ‘low’) and followed his own vain desire. So his description (or example) is the description of a dog: if you put a load on him, he lolls his tongue out (as if heavily burdened, and) if you remove this (load) he (still) lolls his tongue out. Such is the description of the nation of those who belied Our Ayaat. So relate the incidents, perchance they may think and ponder
