إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ
When the Great Event occurs
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 1
لَيۡسَ لِوَقۡعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
none will deny its occurrence
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 2
خَافِضَةٞ رَّافِعَةٌ
bringing low, raising high
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 3
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ رَجّٗا
When the earth is convulsed
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 4
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ بَسّٗا
and the mountains are crushed
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 5
فَكَانَتۡ هَبَآءٗ مُّنۢبَثّٗا
and become scattered dust in the air
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 6
وَكُنتُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا ثَلَٰثَةٗ
And you will be classed into three
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 7
فَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ
the Companions of the Right: what of the Companions of the Right
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 8
وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ
the Companions of the Left: what of the Companions of the Left
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 9
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ
and the Forerunners, the Forerunners
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 10
أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ
Those are the Ones Brought Near
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 11
فِي جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
in Gardens of Delight
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 12
ثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
A large group of the earlier people
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 13
وَقَلِيلٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
but few of the later ones
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 14
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٖ مَّوۡضُونَةٖ
On sumptuous woven couches
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 15
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيۡهَا مُتَقَٰبِلِينَ
reclining on them face to face
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 16
يَطُوفُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وِلۡدَٰنٞ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
There will circulate among them, ageless youths
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 17
بِأَكۡوَابٖ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأۡسٖ مِّن مَّعِينٖ
carrying goblets and decanters and a cup from a flowing spring —
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 18
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنۡهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
it does not give them any headache nor does it leave them stupefied
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 19
وَفَٰكِهَةٖ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
And any fruit they specify
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 20
وَلَحۡمِ طَيۡرٖ مِّمَّا يَشۡتَهُونَ
and any bird-meat they desire
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 21
وَحُورٌ عِينٞ
And dark-eyed maidens
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 22
كَأَمۡثَٰلِ ٱللُّؤۡلُوِٕ ٱلۡمَكۡنُونِ
like hidden pearls
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 23
جَزَآءَۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ
As recompense for what they did
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 24
لَا يَسۡمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغۡوٗا وَلَا تَأۡثِيمًا
They will hear no prattling in it nor any word of wrong
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 25
إِلَّا قِيلٗا سَلَٰمٗا سَلَٰمٗا
All that is said is, ´Peace! Peace!´
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 26
وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡيَمِينِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
And the Companions of the Right: what of the Companions of the Right
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 27
فِي سِدۡرٖ مَّخۡضُودٖ
Amid thornless lote-trees
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 28
وَطَلۡحٖ مَّنضُودٖ
and fruit-laden acacias
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 29
وَظِلّٖ مَّمۡدُودٖ
and wide-spreading shade
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 30
وَمَآءٖ مَّسۡكُوبٖ
and outpouring water
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 31
وَفَٰكِهَةٖ كَثِيرَةٖ
and fruits in abundance
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 32
لَّا مَقۡطُوعَةٖ وَلَا مَمۡنُوعَةٖ
never failing, unrestricted
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 33
وَفُرُشٖ مَّرۡفُوعَةٍ
And on elevated couches
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 34
إِنَّآ أَنشَأۡنَٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءٗ
We have brought maidens into being
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 35
فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُنَّ أَبۡكَارًا
and made them purest virgins
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 36
عُرُبًا أَتۡرَابٗا
devoted, passionate, of like age
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 37
لِّأَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
for the Companions of the Right
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 38
ثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
A large group of the earlier people
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 39
وَثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
and a large group of the later ones
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 40
وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ
And the Companions of the Left: what of the Companions of the Left
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 41
فِي سَمُومٖ وَحَمِيمٖ
Amid searing blasts and scalding water
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 42
وَظِلّٖ مِّن يَحۡمُومٖ
and the murk of thick black smoke
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 43
لَّا بَارِدٖ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
providing no coolness and no pleasure
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 44
إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَبۡلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتۡرَفِينَ
Before that they were living in luxury
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 45
وَكَانُواْ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلۡحِنثِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
persisting in immense wrongdoing
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 46
وَكَانُواْ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابٗا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ
and saying, ´When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 47
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ
or our forefathers, the earlier peoples?´
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 48
قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
Say: ´The earlier and the later peoples will certainly all be gathered
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 49
لَمَجۡمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَٰتِ يَوۡمٖ مَّعۡلُومٖ
to the appointment of a specified Day
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 50
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبُونَ
Then you, you misguided, you deniers
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 51
لَأٓكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٖ مِّن زَقُّومٖ
will eat from the tree of Zaqqum
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 52
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ
filling your stomachs with it
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 53
فَشَٰرِبُونَ عَلَيۡهِ مِنَ ٱلۡحَمِيمِ
and drink scalding water on top of it
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 54
فَشَٰرِبُونَ شُرۡبَ ٱلۡهِيمِ
slurping like thirst-crazed camels
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 55
هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلدِّينِ
This will be their hospitality on the Day of Judgment!´
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 56
نَحۡنُ خَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ فَلَوۡلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
We created you so why do you not confirm the truth
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 57
أَفَرَءَيۡتُم مَّا تُمۡنُونَ
Have you thought about the sperm that you ejaculate
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 58
ءَأَنتُمۡ تَخۡلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡخَٰلِقُونَ
Is it you who create it or are We the Creator
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 59
نَحۡنُ قَدَّرۡنَا بَيۡنَكُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَسۡبُوقِينَ
We have decreed death for you and We will not be forestalled
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 60
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمۡثَٰلَكُمۡ وَنُنشِئَكُمۡ فِي مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ
in replacing you with others the same as you and re-forming you in a way you know nothing about
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 61
وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتُمُ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰ فَلَوۡلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
You have known the first formation, so will you not pay heed
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 62
أَفَرَءَيۡتُم مَّا تَحۡرُثُونَ
Have you thought about what you cultivate
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 63
ءَأَنتُمۡ تَزۡرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلزَّـٰرِعُونَ
Is it you who make it germinate or are We the Germinator
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 64
لَوۡ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلۡنَٰهُ حُطَٰمٗا فَظَلۡتُمۡ تَفَكَّهُونَ
If We wished We could have made it broken stubble. You would then be left devoid of crops, distraught
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 65
إِنَّا لَمُغۡرَمُونَ
´We are ruined
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 66
بَلۡ نَحۡنُ مَحۡرُومُونَ
in fact we are destitute!´
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 67
أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَآءَ ٱلَّذِي تَشۡرَبُونَ
Have you thought about the water that you drink
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 68
ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنزَلۡتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُزۡنِ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنزِلُونَ
Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or are We the Sender
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 69
لَوۡ نَشَآءُ جَعَلۡنَٰهُ أُجَاجٗا فَلَوۡلَا تَشۡكُرُونَ
If We wished We could have made it bitter, so will you not give thanks
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 70
أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِي تُورُونَ
Have you thought about the fire that you light
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 71
ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنشَأۡتُمۡ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنشِـُٔونَ
Is it you who make the trees that fuel it grow or are We the Grower
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 72
نَحۡنُ جَعَلۡنَٰهَا تَذۡكِرَةٗ وَمَتَٰعٗا لِّلۡمُقۡوِينَ
We have made it to be a reminder and a comfort for travellers in the wild
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 73
فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
So glorify the name of your Lord, the Magnificent
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 74
۞فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
And I swear by the falling of the stars —
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 75
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٞ لَّوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
and that is a mighty oath if you only knew —
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 76
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرۡءَانٞ كَرِيمٞ
it truly is a Noble Qur´an
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 77
فِي كِتَٰبٖ مَّكۡنُونٖ
in a well protected Book
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 78
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُطَهَّرُونَ
No one may touch it except the purified
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 79
تَنزِيلٞ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
Revelation sent down from the Lord of all the worlds
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 80
أَفَبِهَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدۡهِنُونَ
Do you nonetheless regard this discourse with scorn
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 81
وَتَجۡعَلُونَ رِزۡقَكُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ تُكَذِّبُونَ
and think your provision depends on your denial of the truth
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 82
فَلَوۡلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلۡحُلۡقُومَ
Why then, when death reaches his throat
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 83
وَأَنتُمۡ حِينَئِذٖ تَنظُرُونَ
and you are at that moment looking on —
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 84
وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَيۡهِ مِنكُمۡ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُبۡصِرُونَ
and We are nearer him than you but you cannot see —
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 85
فَلَوۡلَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ غَيۡرَ مَدِينِينَ
why then, if you are not subject to Our command
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 86
تَرۡجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ
do you not send it back if you are telling the truth
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 87
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِينَ
But the truth is that if he is one of Those Brought Near
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 88
فَرَوۡحٞ وَرَيۡحَانٞ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٖ
there is solace and sweetness and a Garden of Delight
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 89
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
And if he is one of the Companions of the Right
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 90
فَسَلَٰمٞ لَّكَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
´Peace be upon you!´ from the Companions of the Right
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 91
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
And if he is one of the misguided deniers
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 92
فَنُزُلٞ مِّنۡ حَمِيمٖ
there is hospitality of scalding water
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 93
وَتَصۡلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
and roasting in the Blazing Fire
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 94
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلۡيَقِينِ
This is indeed the Truth of Certainty
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 95
فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
So glorify the Name of your Lord, the Magnificent
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 96
