Surah Al-Waqia - English Translation by Ali Bakhtiari Nejad
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ
When the event happens
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 1
لَيۡسَ لِوَقۡعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
and its happening is not false
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 2
خَافِضَةٞ رَّافِعَةٌ
it is lowering and elevating (humiliating and honoring)
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 3
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ رَجّٗا
When the earth is violently shaken
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 4
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ بَسّٗا
and the mountains are totally disintegrated
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 5
فَكَانَتۡ هَبَآءٗ مُّنۢبَثّٗا
and become scattered dust
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 6
وَكُنتُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا ثَلَٰثَةٗ
And you will be three types
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 7
فَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ
The associates of happiness (the fortunate people). Who are the fortunate people
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 8
وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ
The associates of misery (the unfortunate people). Who are the unfortunate people
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 9
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ
And the pioneers (in devotion) are the pioneers (in the hereafter)
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 10
أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ
They are the close ones (to God)
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 11
فِي جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
in gardens of delight
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 12
ثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
A large number of the earlier ones
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 13
وَقَلِيلٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
and a few from the later ones
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 14
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٖ مَّوۡضُونَةٖ
On sofas lavishly decorated (with jewels and gold)
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 15
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيۡهَا مُتَقَٰبِلِينَ
reclining on them, facing each other
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 16
يَطُوفُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وِلۡدَٰنٞ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
Immortal youths circulate among them
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 17
بِأَكۡوَابٖ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأۡسٖ مِّن مَّعِينٖ
with drinking glasses and jugs and cups of spring water
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 18
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنۡهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
They do not get headache and they do not get exhausted (and drunk) from it
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 19
وَفَٰكِهَةٖ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
And from whatever fruits they choose
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 20
وَلَحۡمِ طَيۡرٖ مِّمَّا يَشۡتَهُونَ
and from whatever meat of birds they desire
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 21
وَحُورٌ عِينٞ
and appealing girls with beautiful eyes
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 22
كَأَمۡثَٰلِ ٱللُّؤۡلُوِٕ ٱلۡمَكۡنُونِ
like the hidden pearl (inside the shell)
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 23
جَزَآءَۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ
as a reward for what they used to do
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 24
لَا يَسۡمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغۡوٗا وَلَا تَأۡثِيمًا
They do not hear useless or sinful (talk) in it
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 25
إِلَّا قِيلٗا سَلَٰمٗا سَلَٰمٗا
except a saying of peace (and well-being), peace (and well-being)
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 26
وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡيَمِينِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
And the associates of the right hand (the fortunate), who are the fortunate
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 27
فِي سِدۡرٖ مَّخۡضُودٖ
Among thorn free Lote (Sidra) tree
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 28
وَطَلۡحٖ مَّنضُودٖ
and banana trees piled up (with fruits)
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 29
وَظِلّٖ مَّمۡدُودٖ
and extended shade
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 30
وَمَآءٖ مَّسۡكُوبٖ
and flowing water
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 31
وَفَٰكِهَةٖ كَثِيرَةٖ
and plenty of fruits
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 32
لَّا مَقۡطُوعَةٖ وَلَا مَمۡنُوعَةٖ
not ending and not forbidden
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 33
وَفُرُشٖ مَّرۡفُوعَةٍ
And dignified spouses
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 34
إِنَّآ أَنشَأۡنَٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءٗ
whom We created them perfectly
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 35
فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُنَّ أَبۡكَارًا
and We made them virgins
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 36
عُرُبًا أَتۡرَابٗا
devoted (and loving), of equal age
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 37
لِّأَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
for associates of the right hand (the fortunate)
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 38
ثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
a large number of the earlier ones
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 39
وَثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
and a large number of the later ones
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 40
وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ
And associates of the left hand (the unfortunate), who are the unfortunate
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 41
فِي سَمُومٖ وَحَمِيمٖ
In scorching wind and boiling water
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 42
وَظِلّٖ مِّن يَحۡمُومٖ
and shade of thick (black) smoke
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 43
لَّا بَارِدٖ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
not cool and not nice
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 44
إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَبۡلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتۡرَفِينَ
Indeed they were rich (and wealthy) before this
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 45
وَكَانُواْ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلۡحِنثِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
and they insisted on the great sin
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 46
وَكَانُواْ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابٗا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ
and they used to say: would we be raised when we die and become dust and bones
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 47
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ
Or our forefathers
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 48
قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
Say: indeed the earlier ones and the later ones
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 49
لَمَجۡمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَٰتِ يَوۡمٖ مَّعۡلُومٖ
are certainly collected at an appointment of a known day
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 50
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبُونَ
Then indeed you, the misguided deniers
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 51
لَأٓكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٖ مِّن زَقُّومٖ
are certainly eaters of Zaqqum tree
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 52
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ
and filling the stomachs from it
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 53
فَشَٰرِبُونَ عَلَيۡهِ مِنَ ٱلۡحَمِيمِ
then drinking boiling water over it
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 54
فَشَٰرِبُونَ شُرۡبَ ٱلۡهِيمِ
and drinking as thirsty camels drink
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 55
هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلدِّينِ
This is their entertainment on the judgment day
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 56
نَحۡنُ خَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ فَلَوۡلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
We created you, so why do you not acknowledge
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 57
أَفَرَءَيۡتُم مَّا تُمۡنُونَ
What do you think of what you ejaculate
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 58
ءَأَنتُمۡ تَخۡلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡخَٰلِقُونَ
Do you create it or are We the creators
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 59
نَحۡنُ قَدَّرۡنَا بَيۡنَكُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَسۡبُوقِينَ
We mandated the death among you, and We will not be surpassed
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 60
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمۡثَٰلَكُمۡ وَنُنشِئَكُمۡ فِي مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ
in replacing (you with) the likes of you and producing you in (a form) that you do not know
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 61
وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتُمُ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰ فَلَوۡلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
You have certainly known about the first creation, so why do you not take notice
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 62
أَفَرَءَيۡتُم مَّا تَحۡرُثُونَ
What do you think of what you plant
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 63
ءَأَنتُمۡ تَزۡرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلزَّـٰرِعُونَ
Do you grow it, or are We the growers
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 64
لَوۡ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلۡنَٰهُ حُطَٰمٗا فَظَلۡتُمۡ تَفَكَّهُونَ
If We want, We make it into broken pieces, and leave you wondering
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 65
إِنَّا لَمُغۡرَمُونَ
(saying): we certainly suffered losses
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 66
بَلۡ نَحۡنُ مَحۡرُومُونَ
no, but we are deprived
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 67
أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَآءَ ٱلَّذِي تَشۡرَبُونَ
What do you think of the water that you drink
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 68
ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنزَلۡتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُزۡنِ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنزِلُونَ
Did you send it down from the cloud, or are We the senders
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 69
لَوۡ نَشَآءُ جَعَلۡنَٰهُ أُجَاجٗا فَلَوۡلَا تَشۡكُرُونَ
If We want, We make it bitter (and salty), so why are you not thankful
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 70
أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِي تُورُونَ
What do you think of the fire that you light
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 71
ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنشَأۡتُمۡ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنشِـُٔونَ
Did you make its tree, or are We the makers
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 72
نَحۡنُ جَعَلۡنَٰهَا تَذۡكِرَةٗ وَمَتَٰعٗا لِّلۡمُقۡوِينَ
We made it a reminder and a provision for those living/traveling in the desert
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 73
فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
So glorify the name of your great Master
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 74
۞فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
So I swear by positions of the stars
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 75
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٞ لَّوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
and it is a great oath if you knew
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 76
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرۡءَانٞ كَرِيمٞ
indeed this is a noble Quran
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 77
فِي كِتَٰبٖ مَّكۡنُونٖ
in a concealed book
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 78
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُطَهَّرُونَ
none touch it except the purified ones
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 79
تَنزِيلٞ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
a sending down from the Master of Human kind
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 80
أَفَبِهَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدۡهِنُونَ
Do you take this saying lightly
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 81
وَتَجۡعَلُونَ رِزۡقَكُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ تُكَذِّبُونَ
and you make it your livelihood to deny it
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 82
فَلَوۡلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلۡحُلۡقُومَ
So why not when it (life) reaches the throat
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 83
وَأَنتُمۡ حِينَئِذٖ تَنظُرُونَ
and you are watching at that moment
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 84
وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَيۡهِ مِنكُمۡ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُبۡصِرُونَ
while We are closer to him than you but you do not see
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 85
فَلَوۡلَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ غَيۡرَ مَدِينِينَ
then if you are not obligated, why don't
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 86
تَرۡجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ
you return it (the soul to the body), if you are truthful
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 87
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِينَ
But if he is one of the close ones (to God)
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 88
فَرَوۡحٞ وَرَيۡحَانٞ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٖ
then ease and comfort and gardens of delight (are for him)
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 89
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
And if he is among associates of the right hand (the fortunate)
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 90
فَسَلَٰمٞ لَّكَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
then peace (and well-being) for you among associates of the right hand
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 91
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
And if he is among the misguided deniers
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 92
فَنُزُلٞ مِّنۡ حَمِيمٖ
then entertainment of boiling water
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 93
وَتَصۡلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
and entering (and burning in) hellfire (is for him)
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 94
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلۡيَقِينِ
And this is indeed the sure truth
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 95
فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
So glorify the name of your great Master
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 96
