إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ
WHEN the day that must come shall have come suddenly
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 1
لَيۡسَ لِوَقۡعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ
None shall treat that sudden coming as a lie
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 2
خَافِضَةٞ رَّافِعَةٌ
Day that shall abase! Day that shall exalt
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 3
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ رَجّٗا
When the earth shall be shaken with a shock
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 4
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ بَسّٗا
And the mountains shall be crumbled with a crumbling
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 5
فَكَانَتۡ هَبَآءٗ مُّنۢبَثّٗا
And shall become scattered dust
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 6
وَكُنتُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا ثَلَٰثَةٗ
And into three bands shall ye be divided
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 7
فَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ
Then the people of the right hand - Oh! how happy shall be the people of the right hand
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 8
وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ
And the people of the left hand - Oh! how wretched shall be the people of the left hand
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 9
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ
And they who were foremost on earth - the foremost still
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 10
أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ
These are they who shall be brought nigh to God
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 11
فِي جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ
In gardens of delight
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 12
ثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
A crowd of the former
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 13
وَقَلِيلٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
And few of the latter generations
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 14
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٖ مَّوۡضُونَةٖ
On inwrought couches
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 15
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيۡهَا مُتَقَٰبِلِينَ
Reclining on them face to face
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 16
يَطُوفُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وِلۡدَٰنٞ مُّخَلَّدُونَ
Aye-blooming youths go round about to them
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 17
بِأَكۡوَابٖ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأۡسٖ مِّن مَّعِينٖ
With goblets and ewers and a cup of flowing wine
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 18
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنۡهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ
Their brows ache not from it, nor fails the sense
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 19
وَفَٰكِهَةٖ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ
And with such fruits as shall please them best
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 20
وَلَحۡمِ طَيۡرٖ مِّمَّا يَشۡتَهُونَ
And with flesh of such birds, as they shall long for
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 21
وَحُورٌ عِينٞ
And theirs shall be the Houris, with large dark eyes
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 22
كَأَمۡثَٰلِ ٱللُّؤۡلُوِٕ ٱلۡمَكۡنُونِ
like pearls hidden in their shells
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 23
جَزَآءَۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ
In recompense of their labours past
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 24
لَا يَسۡمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغۡوٗا وَلَا تَأۡثِيمًا
No vain discourse shall they hear therein, nor charge of sin
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 25
إِلَّا قِيلٗا سَلَٰمٗا سَلَٰمٗا
But only the cry, "Peace! Peace
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 26
وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡيَمِينِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
And the people of the right hand - oh! how happy shall be the people of the right hand
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 27
فِي سِدۡرٖ مَّخۡضُودٖ
Amid thornless sidrahs
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 28
وَطَلۡحٖ مَّنضُودٖ
And tall trees clad with fruit
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 29
وَظِلّٖ مَّمۡدُودٖ
And in extended shade
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 30
وَمَآءٖ مَّسۡكُوبٖ
And by flowing waters
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 31
وَفَٰكِهَةٖ كَثِيرَةٖ
And with abundant fruits
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 32
لَّا مَقۡطُوعَةٖ وَلَا مَمۡنُوعَةٖ
Unfailing, unforbidden
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 33
وَفُرُشٖ مَّرۡفُوعَةٍ
And on lofty couches
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 34
إِنَّآ أَنشَأۡنَٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءٗ
Of a rare creation have we created the Houris
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 35
فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُنَّ أَبۡكَارًا
And we have made them ever virgins
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 36
عُرُبًا أَتۡرَابٗا
Dear to their spouses, of equal age with them
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 37
لِّأَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
For the people of the right hand
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 38
ثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
A crowd of the former
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 39
وَثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
And a crowd of the latter generations
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 40
وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ
But the people of the left hand - oh! how wretched shall be the people of the left hand
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 41
فِي سَمُومٖ وَحَمِيمٖ
Amid pestilential winds and in scalding water
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 42
وَظِلّٖ مِّن يَحۡمُومٖ
And in the shadow of a black smoke
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 43
لَّا بَارِدٖ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ
Not cool, and horrid to behold
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 44
إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَبۡلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتۡرَفِينَ
For they truly, ere this, were blessed with worldly goods
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 45
وَكَانُواْ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلۡحِنثِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
But persisted in heinous sin
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 46
وَكَانُواْ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابٗا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ
And were wont to say, "What! after we have died, and become dust and bones, shall we be raised
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 47
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ
And our fathers, the men of yore
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 48
قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
SAY: Aye, the former and the latter
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 49
لَمَجۡمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَٰتِ يَوۡمٖ مَّعۡلُومٖ
Gathered shall they all be for the time of a known day
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 50
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبُونَ
Then ye, O ye the erring, the gainsaying
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 51
لَأٓكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٖ مِّن زَقُّومٖ
Shall surely eat of the tree Ez-zakkoum
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 52
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ
And fill your bellies with it
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 53
فَشَٰرِبُونَ عَلَيۡهِ مِنَ ٱلۡحَمِيمِ
And thereupon shall ye drink boiling water
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 54
فَشَٰرِبُونَ شُرۡبَ ٱلۡهِيمِ
And ye shall drink as the thirsty camel drinketh
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 55
هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلدِّينِ
This shall be their repast in the day of reckoning
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 56
نَحۡنُ خَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ فَلَوۡلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ
We created you, will ye not credit us
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 57
أَفَرَءَيۡتُم مَّا تُمۡنُونَ
What think ye? The germs of life
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 58
ءَأَنتُمۡ تَخۡلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡخَٰلِقُونَ
Is it ye who create them? or are we their creator
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 59
نَحۡنُ قَدَّرۡنَا بَيۡنَكُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَسۡبُوقِينَ
It is we who have decreed that death should be among you
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 60
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمۡثَٰلَكُمۡ وَنُنشِئَكُمۡ فِي مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ
Yet are we not thereby hindered from replacing you with others, your likes, or from producing you again in a form which ye know not
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 61
وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتُمُ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰ فَلَوۡلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
Ye have known the first creation: will ye not then reflect
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 62
أَفَرَءَيۡتُم مَّا تَحۡرُثُونَ
What think ye? That which ye sow
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 63
ءَأَنتُمۡ تَزۡرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلزَّـٰرِعُونَ
Is it ye who cause its upgrowth, or do we cause it to spring forth
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 64
لَوۡ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلۡنَٰهُ حُطَٰمٗا فَظَلۡتُمۡ تَفَكَّهُونَ
If we pleased we could so make your harvest dry and brittle that ye would ever marvel and say
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 65
إِنَّا لَمُغۡرَمُونَ
Truly we have been at cost
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 66
بَلۡ نَحۡنُ مَحۡرُومُونَ
yet are we forbidden harvest
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 67
أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَآءَ ٱلَّذِي تَشۡرَبُونَ
What think ye of the water ye drink
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 68
ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنزَلۡتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُزۡنِ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنزِلُونَ
Is it ye who send it down from the clouds, or send we it down
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 69
لَوۡ نَشَآءُ جَعَلۡنَٰهُ أُجَاجٗا فَلَوۡلَا تَشۡكُرُونَ
Brackish could we make it, if we pleased: will ye not then be thankful
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 70
أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِي تُورُونَ
What think ye? The fire which ye obtain by friction
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 71
ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنشَأۡتُمۡ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنشِـُٔونَ
Is it ye who rear its tree, or do we rear it
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 72
نَحۡنُ جَعَلۡنَٰهَا تَذۡكِرَةٗ وَمَتَٰعٗا لِّلۡمُقۡوِينَ
It is we who have made it for a memorial and a benefit to the wayfarers of the desert
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 73
فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
Praise therefore the name of thy Lord, the Great
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 74
۞فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ
It needs not that I swear by the setting of the stars
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 75
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٞ لَّوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
And it is a great oath, if ye knew it
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 76
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرۡءَانٞ كَرِيمٞ
That this is the honourable Koran
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 77
فِي كِتَٰبٖ مَّكۡنُونٖ
Written in the preserved Book
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 78
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُطَهَّرُونَ
Let none touch it but the purified
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 79
تَنزِيلٞ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
It is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 80
أَفَبِهَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدۡهِنُونَ
Such tidings as these will ye disdain
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 81
وَتَجۡعَلُونَ رِزۡقَكُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ تُكَذِّبُونَ
Will ye make it your daily bread to gainsay them
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 82
فَلَوۡلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلۡحُلۡقُومَ
Why, at the moment when the soul of a dying man shall come up into his throat
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 83
وَأَنتُمۡ حِينَئِذٖ تَنظُرُونَ
And when ye are gazing at him
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 84
وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَيۡهِ مِنكُمۡ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُبۡصِرُونَ
Though we are nearer to him than ye, although ye see us not
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 85
فَلَوۡلَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ غَيۡرَ مَدِينِينَ
Why do ye not, if ye are to escape the judgment
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 86
تَرۡجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ
Cause that soul to return? Tell me, if ye speak the truth
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 87
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِينَ
But as to him who shall enjoy near access to God
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 88
فَرَوۡحٞ وَرَيۡحَانٞ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٖ
His shall be repose, and pleasure, and a garden of delights
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 89
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
Yea, for him who shall be of the people of the right hand
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 90
فَسَلَٰمٞ لَّكَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
Shall be the greeting from the people of the right hand - "Peace be to thee
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 91
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ
But for him who shall be of those who treat the prophets as deceivers, And of the erring
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 92
فَنُزُلٞ مِّنۡ حَمِيمٖ
His entertainment shall be of scalding water
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 93
وَتَصۡلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ
And the broiling of hell-fire
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 94
إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلۡيَقِينِ
Verily this is a certain truth
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 95
فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
Praise therefore the name of thy Lord, the Great
Surah Al-Waqia, Verse 96
