Surah Al-Muzzammil - English Translation by Ali Bakhtiari Nejad
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡمُزَّمِّلُ
You who wrap yourself
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 1
قُمِ ٱلَّيۡلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلٗا
get up at night, except a little
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 2
نِّصۡفَهُۥٓ أَوِ ٱنقُصۡ مِنۡهُ قَلِيلًا
half of it or a little less of it
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 3
أَوۡ زِدۡ عَلَيۡهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ تَرۡتِيلًا
or add (a little) to it, and recite the Quran distinctly (and thoughtfully)
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 4
إِنَّا سَنُلۡقِي عَلَيۡكَ قَوۡلٗا ثَقِيلًا
Indeed We are going to throw a heavy word on you
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 5
إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ ٱلَّيۡلِ هِيَ أَشَدُّ وَطۡـٔٗا وَأَقۡوَمُ قِيلًا
Indeed rising up at night is more effective and more appropriate for word (of prayer)
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 6
إِنَّ لَكَ فِي ٱلنَّهَارِ سَبۡحٗا طَوِيلٗا
Indeed you have lengthy occupations during the day
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 7
وَٱذۡكُرِ ٱسۡمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلۡ إِلَيۡهِ تَبۡتِيلٗا
And remember the name of you Master, and devote your life to Him devotedly
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 8
رَّبُّ ٱلۡمَشۡرِقِ وَٱلۡمَغۡرِبِ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱتَّخِذۡهُ وَكِيلٗا
Master of the east and the west, there is no god except Him, so take Him as an advocate
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 9
وَٱصۡبِرۡ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱهۡجُرۡهُمۡ هَجۡرٗا جَمِيلٗا
And be patient about what they say and break up with them, a nice separation
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 10
وَذَرۡنِي وَٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ أُوْلِي ٱلنَّعۡمَةِ وَمَهِّلۡهُمۡ قَلِيلًا
And leave Me and the deniers who have the good life, and give them a little time
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 11
إِنَّ لَدَيۡنَآ أَنكَالٗا وَجَحِيمٗا
Indeed there is shackles and hellfire with Us
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 12
وَطَعَامٗا ذَا غُصَّةٖ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمٗا
and food that chokes and a painful punishment (for them)
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 13
يَوۡمَ تَرۡجُفُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَٱلۡجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ كَثِيبٗا مَّهِيلًا
on a day that the earth and the mountains shake and the mountains become a pile of flowing sands
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 14
إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَآ إِلَيۡكُمۡ رَسُولٗا شَٰهِدًا عَلَيۡكُمۡ كَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ رَسُولٗا
Indeed We sent a messenger to you as a witness over you as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 15
فَعَصَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنُ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذۡنَٰهُ أَخۡذٗا وَبِيلٗا
Then Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We took him, a disastrous taking
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 16
فَكَيۡفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِن كَفَرۡتُمۡ يَوۡمٗا يَجۡعَلُ ٱلۡوِلۡدَٰنَ شِيبًا
So if you disbelieve then how do you protect (yourselves) on a day that makes the children white haired (and grow old), if you disbelieved
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 17
ٱلسَّمَآءُ مُنفَطِرُۢ بِهِۦۚ كَانَ وَعۡدُهُۥ مَفۡعُولًا
(A day that) the sky is torn apart in it. God's promise shall be done
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 18
إِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦ تَذۡكِرَةٞۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلًا
Indeed this (Quran) is a reminder, so anyone who wants, takes a way to his Master (with it)
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 19
۞إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعۡلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدۡنَىٰ مِن ثُلُثَيِ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَنِصۡفَهُۥ وَثُلُثَهُۥ وَطَآئِفَةٞ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مَعَكَۚ وَٱللَّهُ يُقَدِّرُ ٱلَّيۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَۚ عَلِمَ أَن لَّن تُحۡصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيۡكُمۡۖ فَٱقۡرَءُواْ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِۚ عَلِمَ أَن سَيَكُونُ مِنكُم مَّرۡضَىٰ وَءَاخَرُونَ يَضۡرِبُونَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ يَبۡتَغُونَ مِن فَضۡلِ ٱللَّهِ وَءَاخَرُونَ يُقَٰتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۖ فَٱقۡرَءُواْ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنۡهُۚ وَأَقِيمُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُواْ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَقۡرِضُواْ ٱللَّهَ قَرۡضًا حَسَنٗاۚ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُواْ لِأَنفُسِكُم مِّنۡ خَيۡرٖ تَجِدُوهُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ خَيۡرٗا وَأَعۡظَمَ أَجۡرٗاۚ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ ٱللَّهَۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمُۢ
Indeed your Master knows that you and a group of those with you get up nearly two third of the night or half of it or one third of it. God determines (length of) the night and the day, and He knows that you never calculate it, so He turned to you (in mercy), therefore read as much as you can from Quran. He knows that some of you are going to get sick and others move around on the earth looking for His bounty and others fight in God's way, so read as much as you can from it, and perform the mandatory prayer and give to mandatory charity and lend God a good loan (or offer God a good deed). And whatever good you send ahead for yourselves, you find it as a better and greater reward with God. And ask forgiveness of God, as God is indeed forgiving and merciful
Surah Al-Muzzammil, Verse 20
