حمٓ
Hā Mīm
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 1
وَٱلۡكِتَٰبِ ٱلۡمُبِينِ
By the manifest Book
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 2
إِنَّآ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ فِي لَيۡلَةٖ مُّبَٰرَكَةٍۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ
We have sent it down in a blessed night, (because) We had to warn (people)
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 3
فِيهَا يُفۡرَقُ كُلُّ أَمۡرٍ حَكِيمٍ
In that (night), every wise matter is allocated
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 4
أَمۡرٗا مِّنۡ عِندِنَآۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرۡسِلِينَ
through a command from Us. We were to send the Messenger
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 5
رَحۡمَةٗ مِّن رَّبِّكَۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ
as a mercy from your Lord, -Surely, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 6
رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَآۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ
the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of whatever there is between them, if you are to believe
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 7
لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحۡيِۦ وَيُمِيتُۖ رَبُّكُمۡ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
There is no god, but He. He gives life and brings death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 8
بَلۡ هُمۡ فِي شَكّٖ يَلۡعَبُونَ
But they, being in doubt, are playing around
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 9
فَٱرۡتَقِبۡ يَوۡمَ تَأۡتِي ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٖ مُّبِينٖ
So, wait for a day when the sky will come up with a visible smoke
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 10
يَغۡشَى ٱلنَّاسَۖ هَٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ
that will envelop people. This is a painful punishment
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 11
رَّبَّنَا ٱكۡشِفۡ عَنَّا ٱلۡعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤۡمِنُونَ
(Then they will say,) “O our Lord, remove from us the punishment; we will truly believe.”
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 12
أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ وَقَدۡ جَآءَهُمۡ رَسُولٞ مُّبِينٞ
How will they take lesson, while there has already come to them a messenger making things clear
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 13
ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوۡاْ عَنۡهُ وَقَالُواْ مُعَلَّمٞ مَّجۡنُونٌ
Then they turned away from him, and said, “(He is) tutored, crazy.”
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 14
إِنَّا كَاشِفُواْ ٱلۡعَذَابِ قَلِيلًاۚ إِنَّكُمۡ عَآئِدُونَ
(Well,) We are going to remove the punishment for a while, (but) you will certainly go back (to your original position)
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 15
يَوۡمَ نَبۡطِشُ ٱلۡبَطۡشَةَ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰٓ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ
(Then,) the day We will seize (you) with the greatest seizure, We will take vengeance
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 16
۞وَلَقَدۡ فَتَنَّا قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ وَجَآءَهُمۡ رَسُولٞ كَرِيمٌ
And We tested the people of Fir‘aun (Pharaoh) prior to them, and a noble messenger came to them
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 17
أَنۡ أَدُّوٓاْ إِلَيَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِۖ إِنِّي لَكُمۡ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٞ
saying, “Deliver to me the servants of Allah. I am an honest messenger to you,”
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 18
وَأَن لَّا تَعۡلُواْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِۖ إِنِّيٓ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلۡطَٰنٖ مُّبِينٖ
and saying, “Do not be haughty against Allah. I bring to you a clear proof
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 19
وَإِنِّي عُذۡتُ بِرَبِّي وَرَبِّكُمۡ أَن تَرۡجُمُونِ
And I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me to death
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 20
وَإِن لَّمۡ تُؤۡمِنُواْ لِي فَٱعۡتَزِلُونِ
And if you do not believe in me, then keep away from me.”
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 21
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوۡمٞ مُّجۡرِمُونَ
Then he prayed to his Lord saying, “These are a guilty people.”
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 22
فَأَسۡرِ بِعِبَادِي لَيۡلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ
(So, Allah answered his prayer saying,) “Now, take away my servants at night. You will certainly be chased
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 23
وَٱتۡرُكِ ٱلۡبَحۡرَ رَهۡوًاۖ إِنَّهُمۡ جُندٞ مُّغۡرَقُونَ
and leave the sea in the state of stillness; they are an army that is sure to be drowned.”
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 24
كَمۡ تَرَكُواْ مِن جَنَّـٰتٖ وَعُيُونٖ
How many gardens and fountains have they left behind
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 25
وَزُرُوعٖ وَمَقَامٖ كَرِيمٖ
and how many fields and noble sites
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 26
وَنَعۡمَةٖ كَانُواْ فِيهَا فَٰكِهِينَ
and how many a luxury they used to rejoice in
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 27
كَذَٰلِكَۖ وَأَوۡرَثۡنَٰهَا قَوۡمًا ءَاخَرِينَ
This is how it happened. And We made other people inherit all this
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 28
فَمَا بَكَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُنظَرِينَ
So, neither the sky and earth wept over them, nor were they given a respite
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 29
وَلَقَدۡ نَجَّيۡنَا بَنِيٓ إِسۡرَـٰٓءِيلَ مِنَ ٱلۡعَذَابِ ٱلۡمُهِينِ
And We delivered the children of Isrā’īl from the humiliating punishment
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 30
مِن فِرۡعَوۡنَۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ
from Fir‘aun. Indeed, he was haughty, one of the transgressors
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 31
وَلَقَدِ ٱخۡتَرۡنَٰهُمۡ عَلَىٰ عِلۡمٍ عَلَى ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
And We chose them, with knowledge, above all the worlds
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 32
وَءَاتَيۡنَٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓيَٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَـٰٓؤٞاْ مُّبِينٌ
And We gave them the clear signs in which there was a manifest blessing
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 33
إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَ
These people say
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 34
إِنۡ هِيَ إِلَّا مَوۡتَتُنَا ٱلۡأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ
“There is nothing more than our first death, and we are not going to be resurrected
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 35
فَأۡتُواْ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ
So, (O believers,) bring our fathers, if you are true (in your belief in resurrection.)”
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 36
أَهُمۡ خَيۡرٌ أَمۡ قَوۡمُ تُبَّعٖ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِمۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَٰهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ مُجۡرِمِينَ
Are they better or the people of Tubba‘ and those who were before them? We have destroyed them. They were guilty indeed
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 37
وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا لَٰعِبِينَ
And We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them just as players
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 38
مَا خَلَقۡنَٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكۡثَرَهُمۡ لَا يَعۡلَمُونَ
We did not create them but with true purpose, but most of them do not know
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 39
إِنَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ مِيقَٰتُهُمۡ أَجۡمَعِينَ
The Day of Decision is the appointed time for all of them
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 40
يَوۡمَ لَا يُغۡنِي مَوۡلًى عَن مَّوۡلٗى شَيۡـٔٗا وَلَا هُمۡ يُنصَرُونَ
the day when no close relation will be of any use to any close relation, nor will they be helped
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 41
إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
except the One on whom Allah has mercy. Of course, He is the All-Mighty, the Very-Merciful
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 42
إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ ٱلزَّقُّومِ
Indeed the tree of zaqqūm
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 43
طَعَامُ ٱلۡأَثِيمِ
is the food of the sinful
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 44
كَٱلۡمُهۡلِ يَغۡلِي فِي ٱلۡبُطُونِ
like dregs of oil. It will boil in the bellies
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 45
كَغَلۡيِ ٱلۡحَمِيمِ
like the boiling of hot water
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 46
خُذُوهُ فَٱعۡتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ
(It will be said to angels,) “Seize him, and drag him into the midst of the Hell
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 47
ثُمَّ صُبُّواْ فَوۡقَ رَأۡسِهِۦ مِنۡ عَذَابِ ٱلۡحَمِيمِ
Then pour on his head some torment of boiling water.”
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 48
ذُقۡ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡكَرِيمُ
“Have a taste! You are the ‘man of might’, the ‘man of honour’
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 49
إِنَّ هَٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمۡتَرُونَ
This is the thing about which you used to be skeptic.”
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 50
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي مَقَامٍ أَمِينٖ
Indeed the God-fearing will be in a place free from fear
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 51
فِي جَنَّـٰتٖ وَعُيُونٖ
in gardens and fountains
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 52
يَلۡبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٖ وَإِسۡتَبۡرَقٖ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ
They will be dressed in fine silk and thick silk, facing each other
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 53
كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجۡنَٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٖ
Thus (it will happen,) and We will marry them with houris having big dark eyes
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 54
يَدۡعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ
They will call therein for every fruit peacefully
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 55
لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا ٱلۡمَوۡتَ إِلَّا ٱلۡمَوۡتَةَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمۡ عَذَابَ ٱلۡجَحِيمِ
They will not taste death therein beyond the first death (they faced in the world). And He (Allah) will save them from the torment of Hell
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 56
فَضۡلٗا مِّن رَّبِّكَۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلۡفَوۡزُ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ
as a favour from your Lord. That is the great achievement
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 57
فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرۡنَٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ
So, We had made it (the Qur’ān) easy in your tongue, so that they may take lesson
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 58
فَٱرۡتَقِبۡ إِنَّهُم مُّرۡتَقِبُونَ
Now wait. They too are waiting
Surah Ad-Dukhan, Verse 59
