Surah Al-Qamar - English Translation by Literal

ٱقۡتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلۡقَمَرُ

The Hour/Resurrection neared/approached, and the moon split/cracked/cut open
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 1

وَإِن يَرَوۡاْ ءَايَةٗ يُعۡرِضُواْ وَيَقُولُواْ سِحۡرٞ مُّسۡتَمِرّٞ

And if they see an evidence/sign they oppose/turn away , and they say: "Continuous magic/sorcery
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 2

وَكَذَّبُواْ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓاْ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡۚ وَكُلُّ أَمۡرٖ مُّسۡتَقِرّٞ

And they lied/denied , and they followed their self attractions for desires, and each/every matter/affair (is) settled/established
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 3

وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزۡدَجَرٌ

And had (E) come to them from the information/news what in it (is) prevention/deterrence
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 4

حِكۡمَةُۢ بَٰلِغَةٞۖ فَمَا تُغۡنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ

Reaching/eloquent wisdom, so the warnings/notices, it does not enrich/satisfy/suffice
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 5

فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡۘ يَوۡمَ يَدۡعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ نُّكُرٍ

So turn away from them, a day/time the caller/requester calls/requests/prays to (for) an awful/obscene thing
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 6

خُشَّعًا أَبۡصَٰرُهُمۡ يَخۡرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمۡ جَرَادٞ مُّنتَشِرٞ

Their eyesights/understanding (are) humble/submissive , they get out/emerge from the graves as though they are spread out grasshoppers/locusts
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 7

مُّهۡطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِۖ يَقُولُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا يَوۡمٌ عَسِرٞ

Coming rushing in fear to the caller/requester, the disbelievers say: "That (is) a day/time (of) difficult(ty)/hard(ship)
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 8

۞كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحٖ فَكَذَّبُواْ عَبۡدَنَا وَقَالُواْ مَجۡنُونٞ وَٱزۡدُجِرَ

Noah`s nation lied/denied before them, so they lied/denied Our worshipper/slave/servant , and they said: "Mad/insane." And he was prevented/ousted
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 9

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّي مَغۡلُوبٞ فَٱنتَصِرۡ

So he called his Lord: "That I am defeated/conquered , so give (me) victory/aid
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 10

فَفَتَحۡنَآ أَبۡوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٖ مُّنۡهَمِرٖ

So We opened the sky`s doors/entrances, with water pouring/flowing strongly
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 11

وَفَجَّرۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ عُيُونٗا فَٱلۡتَقَى ٱلۡمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمۡرٖ قَدۡ قُدِرَ

And We burst/over flowed the land/Earth (into) water springs/wells, so the (rain and well) water met on an order/command (that) had been predestined/estimated
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 12

وَحَمَلۡنَٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلۡوَٰحٖ وَدُسُرٖ

And We carried/lifted him on that of boards/sheets/planks and nails/ship ropes/dowels
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 13

تَجۡرِي بِأَعۡيُنِنَا جَزَآءٗ لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ

It flows with Our eyes/sights, a reimbursement to who was disbelieved with/denied
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 14

وَلَقَد تَّرَكۡنَٰهَآ ءَايَةٗ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ

And We had (E) left it (as) an evidence/sign , so is there from a rememberer
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 15

فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ

So how was My torture and My warnings/notices
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 16

وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ

And We have (E) eased/made the Koran flexible to the remembrance/reminder, so is there from a rememberer
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 17

كَذَّبَتۡ عَادٞ فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ

Aad lied/denied , so how was My torture and My warnings/notices
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 18

إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ رِيحٗا صَرۡصَرٗا فِي يَوۡمِ نَحۡسٖ مُّسۡتَمِرّٖ

That We sent on them a wind/breeze blowing/severely cold , in a continuos unlucky/miserable day/time
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 19

تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٖ مُّنقَعِرٖ

It removes/pulls the people as if they are extracted/dead palm trees` ends
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 20

فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ

So how was My torture and My warnings/notices
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 21

وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ

And We have (E) eased/made the Koran flexible to the remembrance/reminder, so is there from a rememberer
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 22

كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ

Thamud lied/denied with the warnings/notices
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 23

فَقَالُوٓاْ أَبَشَرٗا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدٗا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذٗا لَّفِي ضَلَٰلٖ وَسُعُرٍ

So they said: "Is a human from (among) us, one, we follow him? We are then in misguidance and madness
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 24

أَءُلۡقِيَ ٱلذِّكۡرُ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۢ بَيۡنِنَا بَلۡ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٞ

Was/is the reminder/remembrance thrown on him, from between Us? But he is (a) liar/denier/falsifier, ungrateful and arrogant
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 25

سَيَعۡلَمُونَ غَدٗا مَّنِ ٱلۡكَذَّابُ ٱلۡأَشِرُ

They will know tomorrow/(in the) future who (is) the liar/denier/falsifier, the ungrateful and arrogant
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 26

إِنَّا مُرۡسِلُواْ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتۡنَةٗ لَّهُمۡ فَٱرۡتَقِبۡهُمۡ وَٱصۡطَبِرۡ

We (E) (are) sending the female camel (as) a test for them, so observe/watch them , and endure patience
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 27

وَنَبِّئۡهُمۡ أَنَّ ٱلۡمَآءَ قِسۡمَةُۢ بَيۡنَهُمۡۖ كُلُّ شِرۡبٖ مُّحۡتَضَرٞ

And inform them that (E) the water (is) division/apportionment between them, each/every share of water/drink (is) present/attending
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 28

فَنَادَوۡاْ صَاحِبَهُمۡ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ

So they called their companion/friend, so he stood on his toes and extended his hands to take , so he wounded/slaughtered/made infertile
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 29

فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ

So how was My torture and My warnings/notices
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 30

إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ صَيۡحَةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ فَكَانُواْ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلۡمُحۡتَظِرِ

We (E) sent on them one loud strong cry/torture raid, so they were as the dried and broken plants
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 31

وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ

And We have (E) eased/made the Koran flexible to the remembrance/reminder, so is there from a rememberer
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 32

كَذَّبَتۡ قَوۡمُ لُوطِۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ

Lot`s nation lied/denied/falsified with the warnings/notices
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 33

إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٖۖ نَّجَّيۡنَٰهُم بِسَحَرٖ

We (E) sent on them a violent wind carrying pebbles and hail/hail laden clouds, except Lot`s family, We saved/rescued them with (the) time at end of night before dawn
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 34

نِّعۡمَةٗ مِّنۡ عِندِنَاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي مَن شَكَرَ

A blessing/goodness from at Us, as/like that We reimburse who thanked/became grateful
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 35

وَلَقَدۡ أَنذَرَهُم بَطۡشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوۡاْ بِٱلنُّذُرِ

And he had (E) warned/given them notice (of) Our violent destruction/attack, so they argued/discussed with the warnings/notices
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 36

وَلَقَدۡ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيۡفِهِۦ فَطَمَسۡنَآ أَعۡيُنَهُمۡ فَذُوقُواْ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ

And they had (E) solicited/made sinful advances from (to) his guests, so We wiped out/eliminated their eyes/sights, so taste/experience My torture and My warnings/notices
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 37

وَلَقَدۡ صَبَّحَهُم بُكۡرَةً عَذَابٞ مُّسۡتَقِرّٞ

And settled/established torture had (E) come to them in the morning (at) day breaks/early mornings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 38

فَذُوقُواْ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ

So taste/experience My torture and My warnings/notices
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 39

وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ

And We have (E) eased/made the Koran flexible to the remembrance/reminder, so is there from a rememberer
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 40

وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ

And the warnings/notices had (E) come (to) Pharaoh`s family
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 41

كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذۡنَٰهُمۡ أَخۡذَ عَزِيزٖ مُّقۡتَدِرٍ

They lied/denied with Our evidences/signs all of it, so We punished/took them (the) punishing/taking (of) a glorious/mighty , capable/powerful
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 42

أَكُفَّارُكُمۡ خَيۡرٞ مِّنۡ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكُمۡ أَمۡ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٞ فِي ٱلزُّبُرِ

Are your disbelievers better than those, or for you (is) declaration/denouncement in The Books
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 43

أَمۡ يَقُولُونَ نَحۡنُ جَمِيعٞ مُّنتَصِرٞ

Or they say: We are all/all together (are) victorious
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 44

سَيُهۡزَمُ ٱلۡجَمۡعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ

The gathering/collection/group will be defeated , and they turn away the back/end
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 45

بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوۡعِدُهُمۡ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدۡهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ

But the Hour/Resurrection (is) their appointment, and the Hour/Resurrection (is) more disastrous/catastrophic and more bitter/firmer
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 46

إِنَّ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ فِي ضَلَٰلٖ وَسُعُرٖ

That truly the criminals/sinners (are) in misguidance and madness/inferno/frenzy
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 47

يَوۡمَ يُسۡحَبُونَ فِي ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمۡ ذُوقُواْ مَسَّ سَقَرَ

A day/time they be dragged on the ground in the fire , on their faces/fronts (and told): "Taste/experience Hells` touch/madness
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 48
