Surah Al-Qamar - English Translation by Tbirving
ٱقۡتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلۡقَمَرُ
The Hour approaches and the Moon is splitting apart
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 1
وَإِن يَرَوۡاْ ءَايَةٗ يُعۡرِضُواْ وَيَقُولُواْ سِحۡرٞ مُّسۡتَمِرّٞ
Yet if they see any sign, they avoid it and say: ´It´s constant magic
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 2
وَكَذَّبُواْ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓاْ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡۚ وَكُلُّ أَمۡرٖ مُّسۡتَقِرّٞ
They deny [it all] and follow their own whims, even though every matter has been settled
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 3
وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزۡدَجَرٌ
News has come to them containing a rebuke
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 4
حِكۡمَةُۢ بَٰلِغَةٞۖ فَمَا تُغۡنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ
as eloquent wisdom, even though warners can get nowhere
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 5
فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡۘ يَوۡمَ يَدۡعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ نُّكُرٍ
So turn away from them on the day when the Crier will call out about a horrible event
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 6
خُشَّعًا أَبۡصَٰرُهُمۡ يَخۡرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمۡ جَرَادٞ مُّنتَشِرٞ
Their eyes cast down, they will issue forth from their tombs as if they were scattered grasshoppers
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 7
مُّهۡطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِۖ يَقُولُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا يَوۡمٌ عَسِرٞ
dashing along towards the Crier. Disbelievers will say: "This is such a hard day
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 8
۞كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحٖ فَكَذَّبُواْ عَبۡدَنَا وَقَالُواْ مَجۡنُونٞ وَٱزۡدُجِرَ
Noah´s folk denied it long before them; they rejected Our servant and said: "[He´s] crazy!", and he was rebuffed
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 9
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّي مَغۡلُوبٞ فَٱنتَصِرۡ
He appealed to his Lord: "I have been overpowered, so support [me]
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 10
فَفَتَحۡنَآ أَبۡوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٖ مُّنۡهَمِرٖ
So We opened Heaven´s gates for water to pour down
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 11
وَفَجَّرۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ عُيُونٗا فَٱلۡتَقَى ٱلۡمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمۡرٖ قَدۡ قُدِرَ
We drilled the earth full of springs and the waters met at a command which had been decreed
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 12
وَحَمَلۡنَٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلۡوَٰحٖ وَدُسُرٖ
We transported him on something built with planks and caulking
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 13
تَجۡرِي بِأَعۡيُنِنَا جَزَآءٗ لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ
which sailed on before Our eyes, as a reward for someone who had been rejected
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 14
وَلَقَد تَّرَكۡنَٰهَآ ءَايَةٗ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
We left it as a sign; yet will anyone bear it in mind
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 15
فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
How were My torment, and My warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 16
وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
We have made the Quran easy to memorize; yet will anyone [bother to] memorize it
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 17
كَذَّبَتۡ عَادٞ فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
Ad rejected it. How were My torment, and My warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 18
إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ رِيحٗا صَرۡصَرٗا فِي يَوۡمِ نَحۡسٖ مُّسۡتَمِرّٖ
We sent a howling gale against them on a day full of continuous misfortune
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 19
تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٖ مُّنقَعِرٖ
which snatched men up as if they were hollow palm trunks
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 20
فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
How were My torment, and My warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 21
وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
We have made the Quran easy to memorize; yet will anyone memorize it
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 22
كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
Thamud rejected My warnings too
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 23
فَقَالُوٓاْ أَبَشَرٗا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدٗا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذٗا لَّفِي ضَلَٰلٖ وَسُعُرٍ
and they said: "Are we to follow a single human being from among ourselves? We would then be in error and frenzy
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 24
أَءُلۡقِيَ ٱلذِّكۡرُ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۢ بَيۡنِنَا بَلۡ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٞ
Has the Reminder been delivered merely to him among Us? Instead he is a brash liar
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 25
سَيَعۡلَمُونَ غَدٗا مَّنِ ٱلۡكَذَّابُ ٱلۡأَشِرُ
Tomorrow they will know who the brash liar is
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 26
إِنَّا مُرۡسِلُواْ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتۡنَةٗ لَّهُمۡ فَٱرۡتَقِبۡهُمۡ وَٱصۡطَبِرۡ
We are sending them a she-camel as a test, so watch them and act patient
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 27
وَنَبِّئۡهُمۡ أَنَّ ٱلۡمَآءَ قِسۡمَةُۢ بَيۡنَهُمۡۖ كُلُّ شِرۡبٖ مُّحۡتَضَرٞ
Announce to them how water must be shared among them; each will have his own special time to drink
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 28
فَنَادَوۡاْ صَاحِبَهُمۡ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ
They called out to their companion; and he assumed the task and hamstrung [her]
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 29
فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
How were My torment, and My warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 30
إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ صَيۡحَةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ فَكَانُواْ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلۡمُحۡتَظِرِ
We sent a single Blast against them so they [lay] like dry stalks caught in a fence corner
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 31
وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
We have made the Quran easy to memorize; yet will anyone [bother to] memorize it
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 32
كَذَّبَتۡ قَوۡمُ لُوطِۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
Lot´s people rejected the warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 33
إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٖۖ نَّجَّيۡنَٰهُم بِسَحَرٖ
We sent a sandstorm against them, except for Lot´s own household whom We saved at daybreak
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 34
نِّعۡمَةٗ مِّنۡ عِندِنَاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي مَن شَكَرَ
as a favor from Ourself; thus We reward anyone who acts grateful
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 35
وَلَقَدۡ أَنذَرَهُم بَطۡشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوۡاْ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
He had warned them of Our onslaught, yet they discredited the warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 36
وَلَقَدۡ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيۡفِهِۦ فَطَمَسۡنَآ أَعۡيُنَهُمۡ فَذُوقُواْ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
They tried to coax his guests away from him, so We dazzled their eyes. "Taste My torment and My warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 37
وَلَقَدۡ صَبَّحَهُم بُكۡرَةً عَذَابٞ مُّسۡتَقِرّٞ
Early one, morning, unavoidable torment dawned upon them
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 38
فَذُوقُواْ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
Taste My torment and My warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 39
وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
We have made the Quran easy to memorize; yet will anyone memorize it
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 40
وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ
Warnings came to Pharaoh´s court
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 41
كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذۡنَٰهُمۡ أَخۡذَ عَزِيزٖ مُّقۡتَدِرٍ
Yet they rejected Our signs completely, so We seized them the way a Powerful, Competent person would seize [them]
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 42
أَكُفَّارُكُمۡ خَيۡرٞ مِّنۡ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكُمۡ أَمۡ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٞ فِي ٱلزُّبُرِ
Are your disbelievers any better than those men were, or have you some dispensation [to be found] in the Psalms
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 43
أَمۡ يَقُولُونَ نَحۡنُ جَمِيعٞ مُّنتَصِرٞ
Or do they say: "We all support one another
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 44
سَيُهۡزَمُ ٱلۡجَمۡعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ
They will all be defeated together and turn their backs [to run away]
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 45
بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوۡعِدُهُمۡ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدۡهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ
Indeed the Hour has been promised them; the Hour will be quite disastrous and most bitter
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 46
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ فِي ضَلَٰلٖ وَسُعُرٖ
Criminals will be lost in error and frenzy
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 47
يَوۡمَ يُسۡحَبُونَ فِي ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمۡ ذُوقُواْ مَسَّ سَقَرَ
Some day they will be dragged face down through the Fire: "Experience the sense of scorching
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 48
إِنَّا كُلَّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقۡنَٰهُ بِقَدَرٖ
We have created everything in due proportion
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 49
وَمَآ أَمۡرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٞ كَلَمۡحِۭ بِٱلۡبَصَرِ
Our command comes only once, in the twinkling of an eye
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 50
وَلَقَدۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَآ أَشۡيَاعَكُمۡ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
We wiped out your adherents; does no one recall it
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 51
وَكُلُّ شَيۡءٖ فَعَلُوهُ فِي ٱلزُّبُرِ
Everything they did is [to be found] in the Psalms
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 52
وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٖ وَكَبِيرٖ مُّسۡتَطَرٌ
everything small or great has been recorded
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 53
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّـٰتٖ وَنَهَرٖ
The heedful will be by gardens and a river
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 54
فِي مَقۡعَدِ صِدۡقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٖ مُّقۡتَدِرِۭ
in a sure position under a Competent Sovereign
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 55
