Surah Al-Qamar - English Translation by Mir Aneesuddin
ٱقۡتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلۡقَمَرُ
The hour drew near and the moon was split
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 1
وَإِن يَرَوۡاْ ءَايَةٗ يُعۡرِضُواْ وَيَقُولُواْ سِحۡرٞ مُّسۡتَمِرّٞ
And if they see a sign they turn away and say, “Magic (of old) repeated.”
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 2
وَكَذَّبُواْ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓاْ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡۚ وَكُلُّ أَمۡرٖ مُّسۡتَقِرّٞ
And they denied and followed their desires. And every affair has a (set) time/place of happening
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 3
وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزۡدَجَرٌ
And there has come to them (that part) of the news in which there is (a warning for them) to restrain
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 4
حِكۡمَةُۢ بَٰلِغَةٞۖ فَمَا تُغۡنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ
mature wisdom, but warnings are of no use (to them)
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 5
فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡۘ يَوۡمَ يَدۡعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ نُّكُرٍ
so turn away from them. The day an announcer will call them towards an awful thing put
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 6
خُشَّعًا أَبۡصَٰرُهُمۡ يَخۡرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمۡ جَرَادٞ مُّنتَشِرٞ
with their sight humbled, they will come out of the graves, as if they were scattered locusts
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 7
مُّهۡطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِۖ يَقُولُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا يَوۡمٌ عَسِرٞ
hastening with their eyes fixed towards the announcer. The disbelievers will say, “This is a day of difficulty.”
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 8
۞كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحٖ فَكَذَّبُواْ عَبۡدَنَا وَقَالُواْ مَجۡنُونٞ وَٱزۡدُجِرَ
The people of Noah denied before them, so they denied Our servant and said, “One influenced by jinn,” and he was scolded and driven away
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 9
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّي مَغۡلُوبٞ فَٱنتَصِرۡ
Then he prayed to his Lord, “I am overcome so help me.”
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 10
فَفَتَحۡنَآ أَبۡوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٖ مُّنۡهَمِرٖ
So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring forth
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 11
وَفَجَّرۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ عُيُونٗا فَٱلۡتَقَى ٱلۡمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمۡرٖ قَدۡ قُدِرَ
and We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met for (the execution of) an affair already programmed
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 12
وَحَمَلۡنَٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلۡوَٰحٖ وَدُسُرٖ
And We carried him on (the ship) made of planks and nails (or planks tied with palm fibre)
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 13
تَجۡرِي بِأَعۡيُنِنَا جَزَآءٗ لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ
sailing before Our eyes, a reward for him who was rejected
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 14
وَلَقَد تَّرَكۡنَٰهَآ ءَايَةٗ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
And We left it as a sign, but is there anyone who will mind
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 15
فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
Then how (terrible) was My punishment and My warning
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 16
وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
And We have indeed made the Quran easy to remember (understand and be mindful), but is there anyone who will mind
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 17
كَذَّبَتۡ عَادٞ فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
Aad denied, then how (terrible) was My punishment and My warning
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 18
إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ رِيحٗا صَرۡصَرٗا فِي يَوۡمِ نَحۡسٖ مُّسۡتَمِرّٖ
We sent on them a furious wind during the day (period) of repeated loss
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 19
تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٖ مُّنقَعِرٖ
uprooting men as if they were trunks of uprooted date palms
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 20
فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
Then how (terrible) was My punishment and My warning
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 21
وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
And We have indeed made the Quran easy to remember, but is there anyone who will mind
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 22
كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
Thamud were deniers of the warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 23
فَقَالُوٓاْ أَبَشَرٗا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدٗا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذٗا لَّفِي ضَلَٰلٖ وَسُعُرٍ
so they said, “Should we follow him who is a single man from among us? We will then certainly be in error and madness
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 24
أَءُلۡقِيَ ٱلذِّكۡرُ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۢ بَيۡنِنَا بَلۡ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٞ
Has the reminder been made to come down (only) on him from among (all of) us? No, he is a self interested liar.”
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 25
سَيَعۡلَمُونَ غَدٗا مَّنِ ٱلۡكَذَّابُ ٱلۡأَشِرُ
Tomorrow they will know who is a self interested liar
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 26
إِنَّا مُرۡسِلُواْ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتۡنَةٗ لَّهُمۡ فَٱرۡتَقِبۡهُمۡ وَٱصۡطَبِرۡ
We are sending the she camel as a test for them, so be vigilant (over) them and be patient
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 27
وَنَبِّئۡهُمۡ أَنَّ ٱلۡمَآءَ قِسۡمَةُۢ بَيۡنَهُمۡۖ كُلُّ شِرۡبٖ مُّحۡتَضَرٞ
And inform them that the water is to be shared between (the she camel and) them, each one should be present (for) the drink (at one’s turn)
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 28
فَنَادَوۡاْ صَاحِبَهُمۡ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ
But they called their companion, so he took (the sword) then slew (the she camel)
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 29
فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
Then how (terrible) was My punishment and My warning
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 30
إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ صَيۡحَةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ فَكَانُواْ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلۡمُحۡتَظِرِ
We sent on them a single loud cry so they became like dry broken pieces (of trees used to make) an enclosure (for the cattle or around fields)
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 31
وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
And We indeed made the Quran easy to remember, but is there anyone who will mind
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 32
كَذَّبَتۡ قَوۡمُ لُوطِۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
The people of Lut were deniers of the warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 33
إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٖۖ نَّجَّيۡنَٰهُم بِسَحَرٖ
We sent on them a sand storm (or volcanic debris), except the followers of Lut, We delivered them by dawn
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 34
نِّعۡمَةٗ مِّنۡ عِندِنَاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي مَن شَكَرَ
A favour from Us, thus do We reward him who is grateful
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 35
وَلَقَدۡ أَنذَرَهُم بَطۡشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوۡاْ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
And he had warned them of Our seizure but they doubted and disputed about the warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 36
وَلَقَدۡ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيۡفِهِۦ فَطَمَسۡنَآ أَعۡيُنَهُمۡ فَذُوقُواْ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
And they even sought to take away from him his guests (for an evil purpose), but We blinded their eyes, so taste My punishment and My warning
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 37
وَلَقَدۡ صَبَّحَهُم بُكۡرَةً عَذَابٞ مُّسۡتَقِرّٞ
The punishment set (to befall) at its place/time of happening, befell them in the morning
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 38
فَذُوقُواْ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
So taste My punishment and My warning
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 39
وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
And We indeed made the Quran easy to remember, but is there anyone who will mind
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 40
وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ
And the warnings came to the people of Pharaoh
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 41
كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذۡنَٰهُمۡ أَخۡذَ عَزِيزٖ مُّقۡتَدِرٍ
but they were deniers of Our signs, each of them, so We seized them (with a) seizure of One Mighty, Powerful
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 42
أَكُفَّارُكُمۡ خَيۡرٞ مِّنۡ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكُمۡ أَمۡ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٞ فِي ٱلزُّبُرِ
Are disbelievers (among) you better than those or is there a freedom for you in the scriptures
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 43
أَمۡ يَقُولُونَ نَحۡنُ جَمِيعٞ مُّنتَصِرٞ
Or do they say, “We are a defended army.”
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 44
سَيُهۡزَمُ ٱلۡجَمۡعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ
The army will be defeated and they will be made to turn their backs
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 45
بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوۡعِدُهُمۡ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدۡهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ
No, the hour of doom is their promised time and the hour of doom will be most grievous and most bitter
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 46
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ فِي ضَلَٰلٖ وَسُعُرٖ
The criminals are certainly in error and madness
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 47
يَوۡمَ يُسۡحَبُونَ فِي ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمۡ ذُوقُواْ مَسَّ سَقَرَ
On the day they will be dragged into the fire on their faces, (it will be said), “Taste the affliction of hell.”
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 48
إِنَّا كُلَّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقۡنَٰهُ بِقَدَرٖ
We have certainly created everything with a programme
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 49
وَمَآ أَمۡرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٞ كَلَمۡحِۭ بِٱلۡبَصَرِ
And Our command is but one, like the twinkling of an eye
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 50
وَلَقَدۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَآ أَشۡيَاعَكُمۡ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
And We indeed destroyed sects (like those of) yours, but is there anyone who will mind
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 51
وَكُلُّ شَيۡءٖ فَعَلُوهُ فِي ٱلزُّبُرِ
And everything they did, is in the books
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 52
وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٖ وَكَبِيرٖ مُّسۡتَطَرٌ
and everything small or great is written down (recorded)
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 53
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّـٰتٖ وَنَهَرٖ
Those who guard (against evil) will certainly be in gardens with rivers
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 54
فِي مَقۡعَدِ صِدۡقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٖ مُّقۡتَدِرِۭ
in a confirmed seat, near the King, the Holder of power
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 55
