Surah Al-Qamar - English Translation by Safi Kaskas
ٱقۡتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلۡقَمَرُ
The Hour has come near, and the moon has split
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 1
وَإِن يَرَوۡاْ ءَايَةٗ يُعۡرِضُواْ وَيَقُولُواْ سِحۡرٞ مُّسۡتَمِرّٞ
If they see a sign, they turn away and say, "same old magic
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 2
وَكَذَّبُواْ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓاْ أَهۡوَآءَهُمۡۚ وَكُلُّ أَمۡرٖ مُّسۡتَقِرّٞ
They rejected the truth and followed their desires. But everything has its time
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 3
وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزۡدَجَرٌ
Stories to warn them have already come, that should have restrained them
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 4
حِكۡمَةُۢ بَٰلِغَةٞۖ فَمَا تُغۡنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ
Profound Wisdom, yet these warnings had no effect
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 5
فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡۘ يَوۡمَ يَدۡعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَيۡءٖ نُّكُرٍ
So, turn away from them. The Day the Caller calls to something terrible
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 6
خُشَّعًا أَبۡصَٰرُهُمۡ يَخۡرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلۡأَجۡدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمۡ جَرَادٞ مُّنتَشِرٞ
with their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were swarming locusts
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 7
مُّهۡطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِۖ يَقُولُ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا يَوۡمٌ عَسِرٞ
scrambling towards the Caller. The unbelievers will cry, "This is a disastrous Day
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 8
۞كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحٖ فَكَذَّبُواْ عَبۡدَنَا وَقَالُواْ مَجۡنُونٞ وَٱزۡدُجِرَ
Before them the people of Noah rejected the truth, they rejected Our servant saying, "A madman," and he was rebuked
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 9
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّي مَغۡلُوبٞ فَٱنتَصِرۡ
So he called upon his Lord, "I am overwhelmed, [please] help me
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 10
فَفَتَحۡنَآ أَبۡوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٖ مُّنۡهَمِرٖ
So We opened the floodgates of heaven with torrential rain
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 11
وَفَجَّرۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ عُيُونٗا فَٱلۡتَقَى ٱلۡمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمۡرٖ قَدۡ قُدِرَ
made the earth burst with gushing springs, and the waters met for an already destined purpose
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 12
وَحَمَلۡنَٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلۡوَٰحٖ وَدُسُرٖ
And We carried him on a craft of planks and nails
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 13
تَجۡرِي بِأَعۡيُنِنَا جَزَآءٗ لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ
sailing before our watchful eyes, a reward for him who was rejected
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 14
وَلَقَد تَّرَكۡنَٰهَآ ءَايَةٗ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
We left it as a sign, who then is willing to take it to heart
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 15
فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
How terrible was My punishment and My warning
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 16
وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
Hence, We made it easy to understand this Qur'an and to remember it. Who, then, is willing to keep it in mind
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 17
كَذَّبَتۡ عَادٞ فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
The people of Aad rejected the truth. How then was My punishment and My warning
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 18
إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ رِيحٗا صَرۡصَرٗا فِي يَوۡمِ نَحۡسٖ مُّسۡتَمِرّٖ
We unleashed upon them a screaming wind, on a day of continuous catastrophe
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 19
تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٖ مُّنقَعِرٖ
plucking people away, as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 20
فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
How terrible was My punishment and My warning
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 21
وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
Hence, We made it easy to bear this Qur'an in mind. Who, then, is willing to keep it in mind
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 22
كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
The people of Thamud rejected the warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 23
فَقَالُوٓاْ أَبَشَرٗا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدٗا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذٗا لَّفِي ضَلَٰلٖ وَسُعُرٍ
They said, "Are we to follow a human being, one of us? We would then be misguided and quite insane
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 24
أَءُلۡقِيَ ٱلذِّكۡرُ عَلَيۡهِ مِنۢ بَيۡنِنَا بَلۡ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٞ
Why should he alone from among all of us be chosen to receive the message? He is nothing but a wicked liar
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 25
سَيَعۡلَمُونَ غَدٗا مَّنِ ٱلۡكَذَّابُ ٱلۡأَشِرُ
They will know tomorrow who the wicked liar is
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 26
إِنَّا مُرۡسِلُواْ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتۡنَةٗ لَّهُمۡ فَٱرۡتَقِبۡهُمۡ وَٱصۡطَبِرۡ
We are sending the she-camel as a test for them. Just watch them and be patient
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 27
وَنَبِّئۡهُمۡ أَنَّ ٱلۡمَآءَ قِسۡمَةُۢ بَيۡنَهُمۡۖ كُلُّ شِرۡبٖ مُّحۡتَضَرٞ
Tell them that the water is to be shared between them, with each share equitably apportioned
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 28
فَنَادَوۡاْ صَاحِبَهُمۡ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ
But they called their friend, who dared to slaughter [her]
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 29
فَكَيۡفَ كَانَ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
How then was My punishment and My warning
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 30
إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ صَيۡحَةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ فَكَانُواْ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلۡمُحۡتَظِرِ
We released against them a single blast, and they became like crumbling twigs
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 31
وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
Hence, We made it easy to bear this Qur'an in mind. Who, then, is willing to keep it in mind
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 32
كَذَّبَتۡ قَوۡمُ لُوطِۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
The people of Lot rejected the warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 33
إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٖۖ نَّجَّيۡنَٰهُم بِسَحَرٖ
We unleashed upon them a shower of stones, except for the family of Lot; We rescued them before dawn
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 34
نِّعۡمَةٗ مِّنۡ عِندِنَاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي مَن شَكَرَ
as a blessing from us. Thus We reward those who are thankful
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 35
وَلَقَدۡ أَنذَرَهُم بَطۡشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوۡاْ بِٱلنُّذُرِ
Lot had already warned them of Our assault, but they dismissed the warning
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 36
وَلَقَدۡ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيۡفِهِۦ فَطَمَسۡنَآ أَعۡيُنَهُمۡ فَذُوقُواْ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
They even lusted for his guest, so We blinded their eyes. "Taste My punishment and [the fulfillment of] My warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 37
وَلَقَدۡ صَبَّحَهُم بُكۡرَةً عَذَابٞ مُّسۡتَقِرّٞ
Early morning brought them enduring punishment
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 38
فَذُوقُواْ عَذَابِي وَنُذُرِ
So taste My punishment [which is the fulfillment of] My warning
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 39
وَلَقَدۡ يَسَّرۡنَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ لِلذِّكۡرِ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
Hence, We made it easy to bear this Qur'an in mind. Who, then, is willing to keep it in mind
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 40
وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ
The people of Pharaoh also received warnings
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 41
كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذۡنَٰهُمۡ أَخۡذَ عَزِيزٖ مُّقۡتَدِرٍ
They rejected all Our signs, so We seized them as only the Almighty, the Dominant will
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 42
أَكُفَّارُكُمۡ خَيۡرٞ مِّنۡ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكُمۡ أَمۡ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٞ فِي ٱلزُّبُرِ
Are those among you who deny the truth any better than these others, or do you have immunity in the Books
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 43
أَمۡ يَقُولُونَ نَحۡنُ جَمِيعٞ مُّنتَصِرٞ
Or do they say, "We are united and bound to win
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 44
سَيُهۡزَمُ ٱلۡجَمۡعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ
They will all be defeated, and they will turn their backs and flee
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 45
بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوۡعِدُهُمۡ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدۡهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ
Rather the Hour is their appointed time and the Hour is more disastrous and bitter
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 46
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ فِي ضَلَٰلٖ وَسُعُرٖ
Those who force others to reject God's messages are misguided and insane
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 47
يَوۡمَ يُسۡحَبُونَ فِي ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمۡ ذُوقُواْ مَسَّ سَقَرَ
The Day when they are dragged on their faces into the fire: "Taste the scorching touch of Saqar
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 48
إِنَّا كُلَّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقۡنَٰهُ بِقَدَرٖ
We have created all things in precise measure
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 49
وَمَآ أَمۡرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٞ كَلَمۡحِۭ بِٱلۡبَصَرِ
Our command is but one word, like a twinkling of an eye
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 50
وَلَقَدۡ أَهۡلَكۡنَآ أَشۡيَاعَكُمۡ فَهَلۡ مِن مُّدَّكِرٖ
And We have already destroyed the likes of you. Who, then, is willing to take heed
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 51
وَكُلُّ شَيۡءٖ فَعَلُوهُ فِي ٱلزُّبُرِ
Everything they have done is noted in their records
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 52
وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٖ وَكَبِيرٖ مُّسۡتَطَرٌ
Every action small or big is written down
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 53
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّـٰتٖ وَنَهَرٖ
Those who are mindful of God will be among Gardens and rivers
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 54
فِي مَقۡعَدِ صِدۡقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٖ مُّقۡتَدِرِۭ
In a seat of honor in the presence of a Sovereign who determines all things
Surah Al-Qamar, Verse 55
