Surah Al-Jinn - English Translation by Dr Laleh Bakhtiar
قُلۡ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ ٱسۡتَمَعَ نَفَرٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ فَقَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا سَمِعۡنَا قُرۡءَانًا عَجَبٗا
Say: It was revealed to me that a group of jinn listened to me. They said: Truly, we heard a wondrous Recitation
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 1
يَهۡدِيٓ إِلَى ٱلرُّشۡدِ فَـَٔامَنَّا بِهِۦۖ وَلَن نُّشۡرِكَ بِرَبِّنَآ أَحَدٗا
It guides to the right judgment, so we believed in it. And we will never ascribe partners with our Lord anyone
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 2
وَأَنَّهُۥ تَعَٰلَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا ٱتَّخَذَ صَٰحِبَةٗ وَلَا وَلَدٗا
Truly, He, exalted be the grandeur of our Lord. He took no companion (f) to Himself, nor a son
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 3
وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفِيهُنَا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ شَطَطٗا
and yet a foolish one among us had been saying an outrageous lie about God
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 4
وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّآ أَن لَّن تَقُولَ ٱلۡإِنسُ وَٱلۡجِنُّ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبٗا
But we, truly, thought that the humankind, nor the jinn would ever say a lie about God
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 5
وَأَنَّهُۥ كَانَ رِجَالٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡإِنسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمۡ رَهَقٗا
and that there had been men of humankind who would take refuge with the masculine of the jinn, but they increased them in vileness
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 6
وَأَنَّهُمۡ ظَنُّواْ كَمَا ظَنَنتُمۡ أَن لَّن يَبۡعَثَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٗا
And they thought as you thought, that God will never raise up anyone
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 7
وَأَنَّا لَمَسۡنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ فَوَجَدۡنَٰهَا مُلِئَتۡ حَرَسٗا شَدِيدٗا وَشُهُبٗا
And we stretched towards the heaven. Then, we found it was filled with stern guards and burning flames
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 8
وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقۡعُدُ مِنۡهَا مَقَٰعِدَ لِلسَّمۡعِۖ فَمَن يَسۡتَمِعِ ٱلۡأٓنَ يَجِدۡ لَهُۥ شِهَابٗا رَّصَدٗا
And we had been sitting in positions having the ability to hear. But whoever listens now will find a burning flame and watchers for him
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 9
وَأَنَّا لَا نَدۡرِيٓ أَشَرٌّ أُرِيدَ بِمَن فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَمۡ أَرَادَ بِهِمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ رَشَدٗا
And we were not informed whether the worst was intended for those who are on earth or whether their Lord intended for them right mindedness
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 10
وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلصَّـٰلِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَۖ كُنَّا طَرَآئِقَ قِدَدٗا
There are among us, the ones in accord with morality. And there are among us other than that. We had been of ways differing from one another
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 11
وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّآ أَن لَّن نُّعۡجِزَ ٱللَّهَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَن نُّعۡجِزَهُۥ هَرَبٗا
And we, truly, thought that we will never be able to weaken God on the earth and we will never weaken Him by flight
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 12
وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعۡنَا ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦۖ فَمَن يُؤۡمِنۢ بِرَبِّهِۦ فَلَا يَخَافُ بَخۡسٗا وَلَا رَهَقٗا
So, truly, when we heard the guidance, we believed in it. And whoever believes in his Lord, he will fear neither meagerness nor vileness
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 13
وَأَنَّا مِنَّا ٱلۡمُسۡلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا ٱلۡقَٰسِطُونَۖ فَمَنۡ أَسۡلَمَ فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ تَحَرَّوۡاْ رَشَدٗا
And, truly, we are the ones who submit to God. Among us there are the ones who swerve from justice. And whoever submitted to God, then, those sought right mindedness
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 14
وَأَمَّا ٱلۡقَٰسِطُونَ فَكَانُواْ لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَبٗا
As for the ones who swerve from justice, they had been as firewood for hell
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 15
وَأَلَّوِ ٱسۡتَقَٰمُواْ عَلَى ٱلطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسۡقَيۡنَٰهُم مَّآءً غَدَقٗا
If they went straight on the way, We would have satiated them with copious water
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 16
لِّنَفۡتِنَهُمۡ فِيهِۚ وَمَن يُعۡرِضۡ عَن ذِكۡرِ رَبِّهِۦ يَسۡلُكۡهُ عَذَابٗا صَعَدٗا
so that We try them in it. But whoever turns aside from the Remembrance of his Lord, He will dispatch him to a rigorous punishment
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 17
وَأَنَّ ٱلۡمَسَٰجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدۡعُواْ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدٗا
Truly, the places of prostration belong to God so call not to anyone with God
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 18
وَأَنَّهُۥ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبۡدُ ٱللَّهِ يَدۡعُوهُ كَادُواْ يَكُونُونَ عَلَيۡهِ لِبَدٗا
And, truly, when the servant of God stood up, calling to Him, they be about to swarm upon him
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 19
قُلۡ إِنَّمَآ أَدۡعُواْ رَبِّي وَلَآ أُشۡرِكُ بِهِۦٓ أَحَدٗا
Say: Truly, I call only to my Lord, and I ascribe not as partners with Him anyone
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 20
قُلۡ إِنِّي لَآ أَمۡلِكُ لَكُمۡ ضَرّٗا وَلَا رَشَدٗا
Say: Truly, I possess not the power to hurt nor to bring right mindedness for you
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 21
قُلۡ إِنِّي لَن يُجِيرَنِي مِنَ ٱللَّهِ أَحَدٞ وَلَنۡ أَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مُلۡتَحَدًا
Say: Truly, none would grant me protection from God—not anyone! And I will never find other than Him that which is a haven
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 22
إِلَّا بَلَٰغٗا مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَرِسَٰلَٰتِهِۦۚ وَمَن يَعۡصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ لَهُۥ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ أَبَدًا
unless I be delivering messages from God, His messages. And whoever disobeys God and His Messenger, then, for him is the fire of hell, ones who will dwell in it forever, eternally
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 23
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا رَأَوۡاْ مَا يُوعَدُونَ فَسَيَعۡلَمُونَ مَنۡ أَضۡعَفُ نَاصِرٗا وَأَقَلُّ عَدَدٗا
Until when they saw what they are promised, then, they will know who is weaker of ones who help and fewer in number
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 24
قُلۡ إِنۡ أَدۡرِيٓ أَقَرِيبٞ مَّا تُوعَدُونَ أَمۡ يَجۡعَلُ لَهُۥ رَبِّيٓ أَمَدًا
Say: I am not informed if what you are promised is near, or if my Lord will assign for it a space of time
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 25
عَٰلِمُ ٱلۡغَيۡبِ فَلَا يُظۡهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيۡبِهِۦٓ أَحَدًا
He is The One Who Knows of the unseen! And He discloses not the unseen to anyone
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 26
إِلَّا مَنِ ٱرۡتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولٖ فَإِنَّهُۥ يَسۡلُكُ مِنۢ بَيۡنِ يَدَيۡهِ وَمِنۡ خَلۡفِهِۦ رَصَدٗا
but a Messenger with whom He was content. Then, truly, He dispatches in advance of him and from behind him, watchers
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 27
لِّيَعۡلَمَ أَن قَدۡ أَبۡلَغُواْ رِسَٰلَٰتِ رَبِّهِمۡ وَأَحَاطَ بِمَا لَدَيۡهِمۡ وَأَحۡصَىٰ كُلَّ شَيۡءٍ عَدَدَۢا
that He know that they expressed the messages of their Lord. He enclosed whatever is with them and He counted everything with numbers
Surah Al-Jinn, Verse 28
