Surah Al-Ghashiya - English Translation by Dr Munir Munshey
هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلۡغَٰشِيَةِ
Has the news of that overwhelming (calamity) reached you
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 1
وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٍ خَٰشِعَةٌ
(Many) faces that day would be (panic struck and) down cast
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 2
عَامِلَةٞ نَّاصِبَةٞ
Weary and toiling
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 3
تَصۡلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةٗ
Burning in the scorching fire
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 4
تُسۡقَىٰ مِنۡ عَيۡنٍ ءَانِيَةٖ
Made to drink from the boiling spring
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 5
لَّيۡسَ لَهُمۡ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٖ
And having nothing to eat, except (the bitter thorny) cactus
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 6
لَّا يُسۡمِنُ وَلَا يُغۡنِي مِن جُوعٖ
Not enough to nourish or curb the hunger
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 7
وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ نَّاعِمَةٞ
(Other) faces that day would be happy (and blissful)
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 8
لِّسَعۡيِهَا رَاضِيَةٞ
Well pleased with (the outcome of) their efforts
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 9
فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٖ
In the exalted paradise
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 10
لَّا تَسۡمَعُ فِيهَا لَٰغِيَةٗ
There, they shall hear nothing vile or foolish
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 11
فِيهَا عَيۡنٞ جَارِيَةٞ
In paradise, there are gushing springs
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 12
فِيهَا سُرُرٞ مَّرۡفُوعَةٞ
And elevated thrones
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 13
وَأَكۡوَابٞ مَّوۡضُوعَةٞ
And carved (exotic) goblets
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 14
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصۡفُوفَةٞ
And cushions set in rows
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 15
وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبۡثُوثَةٌ
And spread out (lush rich) carpets
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 16
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلۡإِبِلِ كَيۡفَ خُلِقَتۡ
Do they not look at the camel (and wonder)? How (superbly) is it created
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 17
وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيۡفَ رُفِعَتۡ
And at the sky; how (high) is it raised
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 18
وَإِلَى ٱلۡجِبَالِ كَيۡفَ نُصِبَتۡ
And at the mountains; how (firmly) are they planted
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 19
وَإِلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ كَيۡفَ سُطِحَتۡ
And at the earth; how (wide) is it spread out
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 20
فَذَكِّرۡ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٞ
So, (continue to) remind (them). Indeed, you are (a messenger) to remind (them)
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 21
لَّسۡتَ عَلَيۡهِم بِمُصَيۡطِرٍ
You are not (appointed) a warden over them
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 22
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
As for the one who turns away and disbelieves
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 23
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلۡأَكۡبَرَ
Allah will punish him with the direst torment
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 24
إِنَّ إِلَيۡنَآ إِيَابَهُمۡ
Of course, back to Us is their return (journey)
Surah Al-Ghashiya, Verse 25
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا حِسَابَهُم
Indeed, to call them to accounts is upon Us
