Surah Nooh - English Translation by Muhammad Mahmoud Ghali
إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦٓ أَنۡ أَنذِرۡ قَوۡمَكَ مِن قَبۡلِ أَن يَأۡتِيَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ
Surely We sent Nuh to his people (saying), "Warn your people even before there comes up to them a painful torment
Surah Nooh, Verse 1
قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ إِنِّي لَكُمۡ نَذِيرٞ مُّبِينٌ
He said, "O my people, surely I am to you an evident warner
Surah Nooh, Verse 2
أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ
(Saying) Worship Allah, and be pious to Him, and obey me
Surah Nooh, Verse 3
يَغۡفِرۡ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمۡ وَيُؤَخِّرۡكُمۡ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٖ مُّسَمًّىۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا جَآءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُۚ لَوۡ كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ
He will forgive you (some) of your guilty deeds and defer you to a stated term; surely the term of Allah, when it comes, cannot be deferred, if you (only) know
Surah Nooh, Verse 4
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي دَعَوۡتُ قَوۡمِي لَيۡلٗا وَنَهَارٗا
He said, "Lord! Surely I have called my people by night and by daytime
Surah Nooh, Verse 5
فَلَمۡ يَزِدۡهُمۡ دُعَآءِيٓ إِلَّا فِرَارٗا
Yet my calling increased them (in nothing) except in flight
Surah Nooh, Verse 6
وَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَعَوۡتُهُمۡ لِتَغۡفِرَ لَهُمۡ جَعَلُوٓاْ أَصَٰبِعَهُمۡ فِيٓ ءَاذَانِهِمۡ وَٱسۡتَغۡشَوۡاْ ثِيَابَهُمۡ وَأَصَرُّواْ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ ٱسۡتِكۡبَارٗا
And surely whenever I call them that You may forgive them, they set (Literally: made "up") their fingers in their ears, and enveloped themselves with their clothes, and persisted, and waxed proud (with insolent) arrogance (Literally: in "arrogant" pride)
Surah Nooh, Verse 7
ثُمَّ إِنِّي دَعَوۡتُهُمۡ جِهَارٗا
Thereafter, surely I called them aloud
Surah Nooh, Verse 8
ثُمَّ إِنِّيٓ أَعۡلَنتُ لَهُمۡ وَأَسۡرَرۡتُ لَهُمۡ إِسۡرَارٗا
Thereafter, surely I called them publicly, and I secretly (spoke) to them in private (Literally: in secret "conversation)
Surah Nooh, Verse 9
فَقُلۡتُ ٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ رَبَّكُمۡ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارٗا
So I have said, Ask forgiveness of your Lord; surely He has been (The) Superb Forgiver
Surah Nooh, Verse 10
يُرۡسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيۡكُم مِّدۡرَارٗا
He will send down on you (rain) from the heaven showering plentifully
Surah Nooh, Verse 11
وَيُمۡدِدۡكُم بِأَمۡوَٰلٖ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ جَنَّـٰتٖ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ أَنۡهَٰرٗا
And He will supply you with riches and sons, (Or: seeds) and will set up (Literally: make) for you gardens, and will set up for you rivers
Surah Nooh, Verse 12
مَّا لَكُمۡ لَا تَرۡجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارٗا
For what (reason) you do not hope to get reward from Allah for having reverence towards Him
Surah Nooh, Verse 13
وَقَدۡ خَلَقَكُمۡ أَطۡوَارًا
And He already created you by stages
Surah Nooh, Verse 14
أَلَمۡ تَرَوۡاْ كَيۡفَ خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ سَبۡعَ سَمَٰوَٰتٖ طِبَاقٗا
Have you not seen how Allah created seven heavens as strata, (i.e., in layers)
Surah Nooh, Verse 15
وَجَعَلَ ٱلۡقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورٗا وَجَعَلَ ٱلشَّمۡسَ سِرَاجٗا
And He has made the moon therein for a light, and He has made the sun for a luminary
Surah Nooh, Verse 16
وَٱللَّهُ أَنۢبَتَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ نَبَاتٗا
And Allah has caused you to grow as a growth from the earth
Surah Nooh, Verse 17
ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمۡ فِيهَا وَيُخۡرِجُكُمۡ إِخۡرَاجٗا
Thereafter He will bring you back into it, and He will bring you out (again) a (new) forthcoming (Literally: a bringing out)
Surah Nooh, Verse 18
وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِسَاطٗا
And Allah has the earth for you as an outspread (rug)
Surah Nooh, Verse 19
لِّتَسۡلُكُواْ مِنۡهَا سُبُلٗا فِجَاجٗا
That you may travel along thereof (spacious) ways, ravines
Surah Nooh, Verse 20
قَالَ نُوحٞ رَّبِّ إِنَّهُمۡ عَصَوۡنِي وَٱتَّبَعُواْ مَن لَّمۡ يَزِدۡهُ مَالُهُۥ وَوَلَدُهُۥٓ إِلَّا خَسَارٗا
Nuh said, "Lord! Surely they have disobeyed me, and closely followed him whose wealth and children have not increased them in anything except (greater) loss
Surah Nooh, Verse 21
وَمَكَرُواْ مَكۡرٗا كُبَّارٗا
And they have schemed a heinous scheming
Surah Nooh, Verse 22
وَقَالُواْ لَا تَذَرُنَّ ءَالِهَتَكُمۡ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدّٗا وَلَا سُوَاعٗا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسۡرٗا
And they have said, ‘Definitely do not leave (behind) your gods, and do not definitely leave behind Wadd or Suwa‘ or Yaghuth or Ya‘uq or Nasr (These are names of pagan gods)
Surah Nooh, Verse 23
وَقَدۡ أَضَلُّواْ كَثِيرٗاۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَٰلٗا
(And they have already led many into error. And increase You Allah), the unjust ones in nothing except error
Surah Nooh, Verse 24
مِّمَّا خَطِيٓـَٰٔتِهِمۡ أُغۡرِقُواْ فَأُدۡخِلُواْ نَارٗا فَلَمۡ يَجِدُواْ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَنصَارٗا
For whatever offenses (they committed), they were drowned, and then were made to enter a Fire; so they did not find, apart from Allah, any ready vindicators
Surah Nooh, Verse 25
وَقَالَ نُوحٞ رَّبِّ لَا تَذَرۡ عَلَى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مِنَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ دَيَّارًا
And Nuh said, "Lord! Do not leave (out) upon the earth of the disbelievers any residence-dweller
Surah Nooh, Verse 26
إِنَّكَ إِن تَذَرۡهُمۡ يُضِلُّواْ عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُوٓاْ إِلَّا فَاجِرٗا كَفَّارٗا
Surely in case You leave them behind, they will lead Your bondmen into error, and will beget none except the most- disbelieving impious
Surah Nooh, Verse 27
رَّبِّ ٱغۡفِرۡ لِي وَلِوَٰلِدَيَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيۡتِيَ مُؤۡمِنٗا وَلِلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنَٰتِۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارَۢا
Lord, Forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my home as believer, and male believers and female believers; and do not increase the unjust ones except in annihilation
Surah Nooh, Verse 28
