Surah Ash-Shams - English Translation by Mir Aneesuddin
وَٱلشَّمۡسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا
By the sun and its light
Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 1
وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا
and the moon when it reflects it
Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 2
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا
and the day when it unveils it
Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 3
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَغۡشَىٰهَا
and the night when it covers it
Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 4
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا
and the sky and Him Who built it
Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 5
وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا
and the earth and Him Who spread it
Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 6
وَنَفۡسٖ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا
and the soul and Him Who balanced it
Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 7
فَأَلۡهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقۡوَىٰهَا
then inspired in it, its transgressions and its guarding (against evils)
Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 8
قَدۡ أَفۡلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا
He indeed succeeds who purifies it
Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 9
وَقَدۡ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا
and he indeed fails who buries it
Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 10
كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ بِطَغۡوَىٰهَآ
Thamud denied (the truth) due to their rebellion
Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 11
إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشۡقَىٰهَا
when the most wretched of them broke forth
Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 12
فَقَالَ لَهُمۡ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقۡيَٰهَا
The messenger of God told them, “It is the she-camel of God, so let her drink.”
Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 13
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمۡدَمَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمۡ فَسَوَّىٰهَا
But they denied him and slaughtered her so their Lord destroyed them due to their sin and thus balanced it (the destruction was equal to their crime)
Surah Ash-Shams, Verse 14
وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقۡبَٰهَا
And He does not fear its consequence
