Surah Al-Lail - English Translation by Farook Malik
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَغۡشَىٰ
By the night, when it covers with darkness
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 1
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ
and by the day, when it spreads its brightness
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 2
وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰٓ
By Him who created the male and the female
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 3
إِنَّ سَعۡيَكُمۡ لَشَتَّىٰ
surely your efforts are directed towards various ends
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 4
فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أَعۡطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰ
So for him who gives in charity, fears Allah
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 5
وَصَدَّقَ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ
and testifies to goodness
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 6
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلۡيُسۡرَىٰ
We shall facilitate for him the easy way
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 7
وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ
As for him who is a stingy and considers himself independent of Allah
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 8
وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ
and rejects the goodness
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 9
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلۡعُسۡرَىٰ
We shall facilitate for him the hard way
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 10
وَمَا يُغۡنِي عَنۡهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ
Just think! What benefit will he get from his wealth, if he himself is doomed
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 11
إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا لَلۡهُدَىٰ
Surely it is for Us to give guidance
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 12
وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلۡأٓخِرَةَ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰ
and surely to Us belong the end and the beginning
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 13
فَأَنذَرۡتُكُمۡ نَارٗا تَلَظَّىٰ
Therefore, I warn you of the blazing fire
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 14
لَا يَصۡلَىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلۡأَشۡقَى
in which none shall burn except the wretched
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 15
ٱلَّذِي كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
who deny the truth and give no heed
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 16
وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا ٱلۡأَتۡقَى
But the pious shall be kept away from it
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 17
ٱلَّذِي يُؤۡتِي مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ
the one who spends in charity for self-purification
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 18
وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُۥ مِن نِّعۡمَةٖ تُجۡزَىٰٓ
not seeking any favor from anyone for which a reward is expected in return
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 19
إِلَّا ٱبۡتِغَآءَ وَجۡهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ
except seeking the good pleasure of his Lord, the Most High
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 20
وَلَسَوۡفَ يَرۡضَىٰ
Such persons shall soon be well-pleased with Allah
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 21
