Surah Al-Lail - English Translation by Dr Kamal Omar
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَغۡشَىٰ
The night acts as a witness when it envelops (and conceals from view many things)
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 1
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ
and the day-time when it makes (many things) bright
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 2
وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰٓ
and whatever He created in pairs as the male and the female
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 3
إِنَّ سَعۡيَكُمۡ لَشَتَّىٰ
Surely, your endeavour is indeed diverse (in directions and targets)
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 4
فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أَعۡطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰ
So as for that who gave (i.e., spent as desired in the ordainments of Al-Kitab), and remained obedient (to Allah)
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 5
وَصَدَّقَ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ
and testified to the best (law in Al-Kitab by adopting it)
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 6
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلۡيُسۡرَىٰ
So, soon We provide him facility for Al-Yusrah
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 7
وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ
And as for that who behaved niggardly and remained unconcerned
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 8
وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ
and belied the best (law in Al-Kitab)
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 9
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلۡعُسۡرَىٰ
then soon, We let him slide to Al-Usrah
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 10
وَمَا يُغۡنِي عَنۡهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ
And shall not benefit him his wealth when he has slided to destruction
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 11
إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا لَلۡهُدَىٰ
Verily, on Us indeed (is the duty to provide) the True Guidance
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 12
وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلۡأٓخِرَةَ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰ
And truly for Us (is) indeed (the ownership of) the Hereafter and the initial, present (world)
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 13
فَأَنذَرۡتُكُمۡ نَارٗا تَلَظَّىٰ
So I have warned you of (the) Fire — it is blazing fiercely
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 14
لَا يَصۡلَىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلۡأَشۡقَى
Does not enter it except Al-Ashqa
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 15
ٱلَّذِي كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
that one who denied and turned away (from Al-Kitab)
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 16
وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا ٱلۡأَتۡقَى
And soon — Al-Atqa shall be kept away from it —
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 17
ٱلَّذِي يُؤۡتِي مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ
that one who spends his wealth: he sanctifies (himself)
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 18
وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُۥ مِن نِّعۡمَةٖ تُجۡزَىٰٓ
and with him (i.e., Al-Atqa) there is not for any one out of a reward, which may be paid (by him, as due) in return (for any good some one has done to this pious and obedient person) —
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 19
إِلَّا ٱبۡتِغَآءَ وَجۡهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ
except a desire to seek the attention of his Nourisher-Sustainer, the Most High
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 20
وَلَسَوۡفَ يَرۡضَىٰ
And surely, very soon he will be pleased (in the Hereafter)
Surah Al-Lail, Verse 21
