Surah At-Takwir - English Translation by Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
إِذَا ٱلشَّمۡسُ كُوِّرَتۡ
When once the sun is contracted and loses light and becomes dim
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 1
وَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ ٱنكَدَرَتۡ
The stars emit no light, lose aspect, contribute to cosmic catastrophes and they are no longer in trim
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 2
وَإِذَا ٱلۡجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتۡ
The mountains are put in motion and vanish
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 3
وَإِذَا ٱلۡعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتۡ
The precious pregnant she - camels are forsaken
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 4
وَإِذَا ٱلۡوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتۡ
The wild beasts are thronged
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 5
وَإِذَا ٱلۡبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتۡ
The seas boil and become inundated
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 6
وَإِذَا ٱلنُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتۡ
The like are consorted with the like, joined in companionship and associated (or the souls embodied)
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 7
وَإِذَا ٱلۡمَوۡءُۥدَةُ سُئِلَتۡ
The entombed - alive female infant is asked
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 8
بِأَيِّ ذَنۢبٖ قُتِلَتۡ
For what guilt was she made to suffer infanticide
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 9
وَإِذَا ٱلصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتۡ
And when the records are laid open and are open wide
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 10
وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ كُشِطَتۡ
And when the heaven is erased
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 11
وَإِذَا ٱلۡجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتۡ
And when Hell is blazed
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 12
وَإِذَا ٱلۡجَنَّةُ أُزۡلِفَتۡ
And when Paradise is brought close at hand
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 13
عَلِمَتۡ نَفۡسٞ مَّآ أَحۡضَرَتۡ
Then, every soul becomes fully cognizant of what she brought along of deeds imprinted with wisdom and piety or works imprinted with iniquity and impiety
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 14
فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلۡخُنَّسِ
I swear by the heavenly bodies that recede
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 15
ٱلۡجَوَارِ ٱلۡكُنَّسِ
The planets which in a retrograde motion do proceed
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 16
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا عَسۡعَسَ
And by the night when she feels her way and then softly moves away
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 17
وَٱلصُّبۡحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ
And by the morn when it draws the breath of relief and heyday
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 18
إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلُ رَسُولٖ كَرِيمٖ
That it -the Quran- is the word of Allah conveyed by a distinguished Messenger Jibril (Gabriel) who is regarded with honour
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 19
ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِي ٱلۡعَرۡشِ مَكِينٖ
He is quite powerful and he is endued from the Throne of grace with high esteem
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 20
مُّطَاعٖ ثَمَّ أَمِينٖ
And he is obeyed in the realm and to his trust he is faithfully supreme
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 21
وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجۡنُونٖ
Nor is your companion the -Prophet Muhammad- possessed by an evil spirit
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 22
وَلَقَدۡ رَءَاهُ بِٱلۡأُفُقِ ٱلۡمُبِينِ
For he certainly saw him -the angel Jibril- at the clear horizon
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 23
وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى ٱلۡغَيۡبِ بِضَنِينٖ
Nor should he be accused of withholding any heavenly or divine knowledge of the unseen
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 24
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوۡلِ شَيۡطَٰنٖ رَّجِيمٖ
Nor is it -the Quran- the word of an accursed spirit
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 25
فَأَيۡنَ تَذۡهَبُونَ
How could you think this way and where can you turn
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 26
إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرٞ لِّلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
This Quran is but a universal message and an admonition of great concern
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 27
لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمۡ أَن يَسۡتَقِيمَ
For him who, among you, wishes to follow the path of rectitude which is the path in the main
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 28
وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ
But even then you cannot exercise your will unless it be Allah's will; He is the Creator of the worlds
Surah At-Takwir, Verse 29
