Surah Al-Alaq - English Translation by Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
ٱقۡرَأۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ
Read " That is to say
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 1
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ
He created man from a clinging organism – See introduction
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 2
ٱقۡرَأۡ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡأَكۡرَمُ
Read : and realize that Allah, your Creator is most generous
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 3
ٱلَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِٱلۡقَلَمِ
He taught by the pen, (the main instrument of learning and knowledge, the instrument of authorship)
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 4
عَلَّمَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ
He taught man what he did not know
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 5
كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطۡغَىٰٓ
But no, man always goes beyond the limits prescribed
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 6
أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰٓ
He believes he is independent and not contingent or conditioned by anything else
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 7
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجۡعَىٰٓ
But then it is to Allah, your Creator, shall the return be in the end
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 8
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يَنۡهَىٰ
What do you think of the one who forbids
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 9
عَبۡدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ
A votary, against praying and against religious observances
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 10
أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ
Is he -the infidel- O Muhammad acting on guidance steered by divine inspiration
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 11
أَوۡ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقۡوَىٰٓ
Or he enjoins righteousness and piety
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 12
أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
Do you see that he denies the truth and rejects the path of righteousness
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 13
أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ
Does he not know that Allah the Omnipresent sees him and every act whether in the very doing or on the point of being done
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 14
كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمۡ يَنتَهِ لَنَسۡفَعَۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ
But no, if he does not desist We will grasp him and drag him by the forelock overhanging his forehead on a Day of unbroken gloom
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 15
نَاصِيَةٖ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٖ
A forehead that is false, pretending to be a forehead of divinity
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 16
فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهُۥ
And then let him call his associates
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 17
سَنَدۡعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ
We will call the punitive angels
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 18
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَٱسۡجُدۡۤ وَٱقۡتَرِب۩
But no, do not yield to him, and bow to the ground to Allah in adoration and get closer to Him by supplication
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 19
