Surah Al-Alaq - English Translation by Dr Kamal Omar
ٱقۡرَأۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ
Read with the Name of your Nourisher-Sustainer — That Who created
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 1
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ
He created the human being out of a living matter attached (like a leech) hanging (from the internal surface of the womb)
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 2
ٱقۡرَأۡ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡأَكۡرَمُ
Read and your Rabb is More Generous
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 3
ٱلَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِٱلۡقَلَمِ
That Who taught — with the pen
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 4
عَلَّمَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ
thus He taught the human being what he knew not
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 5
كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطۡغَىٰٓ
By no means ! Verily, the human being, indeed, transgresses the bounds
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 6
أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰٓ
as he noticed himself that he has attained self-sufficiency (in all provisions)
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 7
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجۡعَىٰٓ
Surely, unto your Nourisher-Sustainer would be the Final Return
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 8
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يَنۡهَىٰ
Have you noticed him who prohibits
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 9
عَبۡدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ
(My) Abd when he offered Salat
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 10
أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ
Have you pondered if (this Abd) happened to be on Al-Hudah (‘The Guidance’)
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 11
أَوۡ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقۡوَىٰٓ
or he enjoined obedience (to One God)
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 12
أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
Have you (ever) thought if (the other one who stopped My Abd from offering Salat), has denied and has turned away
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 13
أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ
Did he not know that Allah does see
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 14
كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمۡ يَنتَهِ لَنَسۡفَعَۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ
By no means! Surely, if he did not desist, indeed We shall seize (him) by the forelock
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 15
نَاصِيَةٖ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٖ
a lying, denying, sinful forelock
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 16
فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهُۥ
Then, let him call his league (or council of helpers)
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 17
سَنَدۡعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ
soon We call the executioners (to deal with such defiant opponents)
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 18
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَٱسۡجُدۡۤ وَٱقۡتَرِب۩
By no means (such an apostate will become a hurdle in the Way of Islam)! Do not obey him. And do perform prostration and become close and near (to Allah)
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 19
