Surah Al-Alaq - English Translation by Dr Munir Munshey
ٱقۡرَأۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ
Read! In the name of your Lord, Who created (everything that exists)
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 1
خَلَقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِنۡ عَلَقٍ
He creates man from a clot (of blood)
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 2
ٱقۡرَأۡ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلۡأَكۡرَمُ
Read! Your Lord is the most Generous
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 3
ٱلَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِٱلۡقَلَمِ
He it is, Who imparted knowledge by the pen
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 4
عَلَّمَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مَا لَمۡ يَعۡلَمۡ
Taught man what he did not know
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 5
كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَيَطۡغَىٰٓ
No, of course not! Man is surely rebellious
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 6
أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰٓ
For, he thinks he is independent
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 7
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجۡعَىٰٓ
(Even though his final) return is towards your Lord
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 8
أَرَءَيۡتَ ٱلَّذِي يَنۡهَىٰ
Did you (oh Muhammad, SAW), see the one who forbids
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 9
عَبۡدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ
The servant (of Allah) to perform ´salat´
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 10
أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلۡهُدَىٰٓ
What do you think? Is he well guided
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 11
أَوۡ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقۡوَىٰٓ
And (does he) enjoin piety
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 12
أَرَءَيۡتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
Or do you think he denied and turned away
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 13
أَلَمۡ يَعۡلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ
Does he not know that Allah watches (everything)
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 14
كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمۡ يَنتَهِ لَنَسۡفَعَۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ
Of course not! If he did not desist, We will surely drag him by the hair on his forehead
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 15
نَاصِيَةٖ كَٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٖ
The lying sinful lock of hair
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 16
فَلۡيَدۡعُ نَادِيَهُۥ
He may then call his henchmen for help
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 17
سَنَدۡعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ
While, We shall summon the guardians of hell
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 18
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعۡهُ وَٱسۡجُدۡۤ وَٱقۡتَرِب۩
No! Beware! Do not follow such a one. (Rather), fall prostrate and draw closer (to Allah)
Surah Al-Alaq, Verse 19
