Surah Adh-Dhariyat - English Translation by Mir Aneesuddin

وَٱلذَّـٰرِيَٰتِ ذَرۡوٗا

By the scatterers, scattering
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 1

فَٱلۡحَٰمِلَٰتِ وِقۡرٗا

then those bearing heaviness
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 2

فَٱلۡجَٰرِيَٰتِ يُسۡرٗا

then those moving easily
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 3

فَٱلۡمُقَسِّمَٰتِ أَمۡرًا

then those distributing the affair (or command)
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 4

إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَصَادِقٞ

that which you are promised is certainly true
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 5

وَإِنَّ ٱلدِّينَ لَوَٰقِعٞ

and the judgment will certainly take place
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 6

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلۡحُبُكِ

By the sky possessing ways
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 7

إِنَّكُمۡ لَفِي قَوۡلٖ مُّخۡتَلِفٖ

you are certainly differing in word (opinions)
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 8

يُؤۡفَكُ عَنۡهُ مَنۡ أُفِكَ

He is turned away from the (truth), who (himself) turns away
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 9

قُتِلَ ٱلۡخَرَّـٰصُونَ

Slain be the liars
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 10

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ فِي غَمۡرَةٖ سَاهُونَ

those who are heedless in ignorance
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 11

يَسۡـَٔلُونَ أَيَّانَ يَوۡمُ ٱلدِّينِ

They ask, “When is the day of judgment?”
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 12

يَوۡمَ هُمۡ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ يُفۡتَنُونَ

The day on which they will be punished over the fire
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 13

ذُوقُواْ فِتۡنَتَكُمۡ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِي كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسۡتَعۡجِلُونَ

(it will be said), "Taste your punishment, this is what you sought to be hastened
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 14

إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّـٰتٖ وَعُيُونٍ

Those who had guarded (against evil) will certainly be in gardens and springs
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 15

ءَاخِذِينَ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡۚ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَبۡلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُحۡسِنِينَ

taking that which their Lord gives them. Before that they certainly used to be doers of good
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 16

كَانُواْ قَلِيلٗا مِّنَ ٱلَّيۡلِ مَا يَهۡجَعُونَ

It was (only) a small (part) of the night (during) which they used to sleep
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 17

وَبِٱلۡأَسۡحَارِ هُمۡ يَسۡتَغۡفِرُونَ

and they used to ask for protective forgiveness at dawns
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 18

وَفِيٓ أَمۡوَٰلِهِمۡ حَقّٞ لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلۡمَحۡرُومِ

and in their wealth there was a right (i.e. a portion) for him who begged and for him who was prevented (from begging)
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 19

وَفِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ ءَايَٰتٞ لِّلۡمُوقِنِينَ

And in the earth there are signs for those who are certain
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 20

وَفِيٓ أَنفُسِكُمۡۚ أَفَلَا تُبۡصِرُونَ

and in yourselves (too). Will you not then see
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 21

وَفِي ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزۡقُكُمۡ وَمَا تُوعَدُونَ

And in the sky is your provision and that which you are promised
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 22

فَوَرَبِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ إِنَّهُۥ لَحَقّٞ مِّثۡلَ مَآ أَنَّكُمۡ تَنطِقُونَ

So by the Lord of the sky and the earth, it is certainly a truth similar (to the truth) that you speak
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 23

هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ضَيۡفِ إِبۡرَٰهِيمَ ٱلۡمُكۡرَمِينَ

Has the story of the honoured guests of Abraham come to you
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 24

إِذۡ دَخَلُواْ عَلَيۡهِ فَقَالُواْ سَلَٰمٗاۖ قَالَ سَلَٰمٞ قَوۡمٞ مُّنكَرُونَ

When they entered upon him then said, “Peace.” He said, “Peace, people not recognisable.”
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 25

فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ فَجَآءَ بِعِجۡلٖ سَمِينٖ

Then he went towards his people and brought a (roasted) fat calf
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 26

فَقَرَّبَهُۥٓ إِلَيۡهِمۡ قَالَ أَلَا تَأۡكُلُونَ

and set it near them (and) said, “Will you not eat?”
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 27

فَأَوۡجَسَ مِنۡهُمۡ خِيفَةٗۖ قَالُواْ لَا تَخَفۡۖ وَبَشَّرُوهُ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٖ

So he conceived a fear due to them. They said, “Do not fear,” and they gave him the good news of (the birth of) a boy possessing knowledge
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 28

فَأَقۡبَلَتِ ٱمۡرَأَتُهُۥ فِي صَرَّةٖ فَصَكَّتۡ وَجۡهَهَا وَقَالَتۡ عَجُوزٌ عَقِيمٞ

At (this news) his wife came forward in (a state of wonder), shouting and striking her face, and said, “(How can I have a child when I am) a barren old woman?”
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 29

قَالُواْ كَذَٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلۡحَكِيمُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ

They said, “Thus (it will be), says your Lord. He is certainly the Wise, the Knowing.”
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 30

۞قَالَ فَمَا خَطۡبُكُمۡ أَيُّهَا ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ

He said, “Then what is your affair (for which you have been sent) O you messengers?”
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 31

قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّآ أُرۡسِلۡنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوۡمٖ مُّجۡرِمِينَ

They said, “We are sent to a criminal people
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 32

لِنُرۡسِلَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ حِجَارَةٗ مِّن طِينٖ

that we may send upon them (porous) stones of clay
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 33

مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلۡمُسۡرِفِينَ

marked from your Lord for (the punishment of) the extravagant.”
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 34

فَأَخۡرَجۡنَا مَن كَانَ فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

Then We brought out those who believed from among them
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 35

فَمَا وَجَدۡنَا فِيهَا غَيۡرَ بَيۡتٖ مِّنَ ٱلۡمُسۡلِمِينَ

but We did not find therein any Muslims except (in) one house
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 36

وَتَرَكۡنَا فِيهَآ ءَايَةٗ لِّلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ ٱلۡعَذَابَ ٱلۡأَلِيمَ

And We left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 37

وَفِي مُوسَىٰٓ إِذۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَٰهُ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ بِسُلۡطَٰنٖ مُّبِينٖ

And in Moses (there is a sign) when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 38

فَتَوَلَّىٰ بِرُكۡنِهِۦ وَقَالَ سَٰحِرٌ أَوۡ مَجۡنُونٞ

But he turned away with his force and said, “A magician or one influenced by the jinn.”
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 39

فَأَخَذۡنَٰهُ وَجُنُودَهُۥ فَنَبَذۡنَٰهُمۡ فِي ٱلۡيَمِّ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٞ

So We caught him and his army and threw them into (the flowing water of) the sea and he was blameworthy
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 40

وَفِي عَادٍ إِذۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلرِّيحَ ٱلۡعَقِيمَ

And in Aad (there is a sign) when We sent on them the barren wind (for their destruction)
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 41

مَا تَذَرُ مِن شَيۡءٍ أَتَتۡ عَلَيۡهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَتۡهُ كَٱلرَّمِيمِ

It did not leave anything with which it came (in contact) without making it as if decomposed
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 42

وَفِي ثَمُودَ إِذۡ قِيلَ لَهُمۡ تَمَتَّعُواْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٖ

And in Thamud (there is a sign) when it was said to them, “Enjoy till a (set) time.”
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 43

فَعَتَوۡاْ عَنۡ أَمۡرِ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَخَذَتۡهُمُ ٱلصَّـٰعِقَةُ وَهُمۡ يَنظُرُونَ

But they revolted against the command of their Lord, so the thunderbolt took hold of them while they were seeing
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 44

فَمَا ٱسۡتَطَٰعُواْ مِن قِيَامٖ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُنتَصِرِينَ

So they were not able to stand nor were they able to defend themselves
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 45

وَقَوۡمَ نُوحٖ مِّن قَبۡلُۖ إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَوۡمٗا فَٰسِقِينَ

And the people of Noah earlier (to them), they (too) were a transgressing people
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 46

وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بَنَيۡنَٰهَا بِأَيۡيْدٖ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ

And the sky, We constructed it with energy, and We are the Expanders (of it)
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 47

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ فَرَشۡنَٰهَا فَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡمَٰهِدُونَ

And the earth, We have spread it. How Excellent are We in making it habitable
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 48

وَمِن كُلِّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقۡنَا زَوۡجَيۡنِ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تَذَكَّرُونَ

And of everything We have created pairs that you may be mindful
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 49

فَفِرُّوٓاْ إِلَى ٱللَّهِۖ إِنِّي لَكُم مِّنۡهُ نَذِيرٞ مُّبِينٞ

So you all run towards God, I am a clear warner for you from Him
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 50

وَلَا تَجۡعَلُواْ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَۖ إِنِّي لَكُم مِّنۡهُ نَذِيرٞ مُّبِينٞ

And do not set up another god with God, I am a clear warner for you from Him
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 51

كَذَٰلِكَ مَآ أَتَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبۡلِهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا قَالُواْ سَاحِرٌ أَوۡ مَجۡنُونٌ

Thus, there did not come to those before them any messenger but they said, “A magician or one influenced by jinn.”
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 52

أَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِهِۦۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ قَوۡمٞ طَاغُونَ

Do they recommend this to one another? No, they are a rebellious people
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 53

فَتَوَلَّ عَنۡهُمۡ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِمَلُومٖ

So turn away from them, because you are not blameworthy
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 54

وَذَكِّرۡ فَإِنَّ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ تَنفَعُ ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنِينَ

And be reminding, because reminding certainly benefits the believers
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 55

وَمَا خَلَقۡتُ ٱلۡجِنَّ وَٱلۡإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُونِ

And I did not create the jinn and mankind but (with the sole purpose) that they should serve Me
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 56

مَآ أُرِيدُ مِنۡهُم مِّن رِّزۡقٖ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَن يُطۡعِمُونِ

do not intend (to get) any provision from them nor do I intend that they should feed Me
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 57

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلرَّزَّاقُ ذُو ٱلۡقُوَّةِ ٱلۡمَتِينُ

God is certainly the Provider, Possessor of power, the Strong
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 58

فَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ ذَنُوبٗا مِّثۡلَ ذَنُوبِ أَصۡحَٰبِهِمۡ فَلَا يَسۡتَعۡجِلُونِ

So for those who are unjust, (their) portion will certainly be like the portion of their companions, so do not let them ask Me to hasten on (the punishment)
Surah Adh-Dhariyat, Verse 59
