Surah Al-Qiyama - English Translation by Abdul Hye
لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ
I swear by the Day of Resurrection
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 1
وَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلنَّفۡسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ
and I swear by the self-reproaching person (believer)
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 2
أَيَحۡسَبُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجۡمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ
Does mankind think that We shall not assemble their bones
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 3
بَلَىٰ قَٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُۥ
Yes, We are Able to put together in perfect order very tips of their fingers
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 4
بَلۡ يُرِيدُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ لِيَفۡجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ
But mankind desires to continue committing sins
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 5
يَسۡـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوۡمُ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ
He (mankind) asks: “When will be this Day of Resurrection?”
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 6
فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ
So, (it will come) when the sight will be dazed
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 7
وَخَسَفَ ٱلۡقَمَرُ
the moon will be eclipsed
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 8
وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ
and the sun and moon will be joined together
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 9
يَقُولُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ يَوۡمَئِذٍ أَيۡنَ ٱلۡمَفَرُّ
on that Day mankind will say: “Where (is the refuge) to flee?”
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 10
كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ
No! There will be no refuge
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 11
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَئِذٍ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقَرُّ
On that Day, the place of rest will only be to your Lord
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 12
يُنَبَّؤُاْ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ
On that Day mankind will be informed of (their deeds) what they sent forward and what they left behind
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 13
بَلِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفۡسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٞ
Nay! Mankind will be witness against themselves (body parts will speak about deeds)
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 14
وَلَوۡ أَلۡقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ
though they may put forth their excuses (to cover evil deeds)
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 15
لَا تُحَرِّكۡ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعۡجَلَ بِهِۦٓ
(O Muhammad) don’t move your tongue with it (the Qur’an) to make haste therewith (to memorize the Verses)
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 16
إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا جَمۡعَهُۥ وَقُرۡءَانَهُۥ
surely, it is upon Us to collect it and give you (O Muhammad) the ability to recite it (the Qur’an)
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 17
فَإِذَا قَرَأۡنَٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعۡ قُرۡءَانَهُۥ
and when We have recited it to you (O Muhammad through Gabriel), then you follow its (the Qur’an’s) recitation
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 18
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا بَيَانَهُۥ
then surely, it is for Us to make it clear to you
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 19
كَلَّا بَلۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ
nay but you (mankind) love the present life of this world
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 20
وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَ
and leave the Hereafter
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 21
وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ نَّاضِرَةٌ
On that Day, some faces will be radiant
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 22
إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٞ
looking towards their Lord
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 23
وَوُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بَاسِرَةٞ
On that Day, other faces will be gloomy
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 24
تَظُنُّ أَن يُفۡعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٞ
thinking that some calamity is about to fall on them
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 25
كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِيَ
Nay, when it (soul) reaches to the collar bone (up to the throat in its exit)
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 26
وَقِيلَ مَنۡۜ رَاقٖ
and it will be said: “Who can cure (save from death)?”
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 27
وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلۡفِرَاقُ
He (dying person) will conclude that it was the time of departure (death)
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 28
وَٱلۡتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ
and one leg will be joined with another leg (shrouded)
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 29
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَئِذٍ ٱلۡمَسَاقُ
on that Day, the drive will be to your Lord
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 30
فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ
So the he (disbeliever) neither believed nor prayed
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 31
وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
but (on the contrary) he denied (this Qur’an) and turned away
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 32
ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ
Then he walked to his family admiring himself
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 33
أَوۡلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوۡلَىٰ
Woe to you (disbeliever)! And then (again) woe to you
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 34
ثُمَّ أَوۡلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوۡلَىٰٓ
(Again) woe to you (disbeliever)! And then (again) woe to you
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 35
أَيَحۡسَبُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ أَن يُتۡرَكَ سُدًى
Does the human think that it will be left (to wander) without requital (any purpose)
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 36
أَلَمۡ يَكُ نُطۡفَةٗ مِّن مَّنِيّٖ يُمۡنَىٰ
Was the human not a drop of emitted semen
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 37
ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةٗ فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
Then he became a hanging clot; then (Allah) created and fashioned him in due proportion
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 38
فَجَعَلَ مِنۡهُ ٱلزَّوۡجَيۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰٓ
and made him either of the 2 sexes, male and female
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 39
أَلَيۡسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحۡـِۧيَ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ
Is not He Able to give life to the dead
Surah Al-Qiyama, Verse 40
