Surah Al-Insan - English Translation by Syed Vickar Ahamed
هَلۡ أَتَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡإِنسَٰنِ حِينٞ مِّنَ ٱلدَّهۡرِ لَمۡ يَكُن شَيۡـٔٗا مَّذۡكُورًا
Has there not been a long period of time, when man was nothing— (Not even) mentioned
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 1
إِنَّا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ أَمۡشَاجٖ نَّبۡتَلِيهِ فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُ سَمِيعَۢا بَصِيرًا
Surely We have created man from a drop of mixed sperm and ovary fluids, in order to try him, so, We gave him (the gifts) of hearing and of sight
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 2
إِنَّا هَدَيۡنَٰهُ ٱلسَّبِيلَ إِمَّا شَاكِرٗا وَإِمَّا كَفُورًا
Verily, We showed him the Way: Whether he be thankful or not (rests upon his own will)
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 3
إِنَّآ أَعۡتَدۡنَا لِلۡكَٰفِرِينَ سَلَٰسِلَاْ وَأَغۡلَٰلٗا وَسَعِيرًا
Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers: Chains, shackles, and a blazing Fire
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 4
إِنَّ ٱلۡأَبۡرَارَ يَشۡرَبُونَ مِن كَأۡسٖ كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا كَافُورًا
As to the righteous: They shall drink of a cup blended with Kafur—
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 5
عَيۡنٗا يَشۡرَبُ بِهَا عِبَادُ ٱللَّهِ يُفَجِّرُونَهَا تَفۡجِيرٗا
A fountain where the devoted servants of Allah drink, making it flow in plenty
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 6
يُوفُونَ بِٱلنَّذۡرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوۡمٗا كَانَ شَرُّهُۥ مُسۡتَطِيرٗا
They make (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose sorrow spreads far and wide
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 7
وَيُطۡعِمُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِۦ مِسۡكِينٗا وَيَتِيمٗا وَأَسِيرًا
And they feed for the love of Allah the needy, the orphan, and the captive and the needy,—
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 8
إِنَّمَا نُطۡعِمُكُمۡ لِوَجۡهِ ٱللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمۡ جَزَآءٗ وَلَا شُكُورًا
(Saying), "We feed you for the sake of Allah Alone, no reward do we want from you, nor thanks
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 9
إِنَّا نَخَافُ مِن رَّبِّنَا يَوۡمًا عَبُوسٗا قَمۡطَرِيرٗا
Verily, We only fear a Day of painful suffering (that may arrive) from the side of our Lord
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 10
فَوَقَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ شَرَّ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡيَوۡمِ وَلَقَّىٰهُمۡ نَضۡرَةٗ وَسُرُورٗا
So, Allah will save them from the sorrow of that Day, and will spread over them a Light of beauty and a (cheerful) joy
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 11
وَجَزَىٰهُم بِمَا صَبَرُواْ جَنَّةٗ وَحَرِيرٗا
And because they were patient and steady, He will reward them with a Garden and (clothes of) silk
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 12
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ فِيهَا عَلَى ٱلۡأَرَآئِكِۖ لَا يَرَوۡنَ فِيهَا شَمۡسٗا وَلَا زَمۡهَرِيرٗا
Reclining in the (Garden) on raised couches (thrones), they will see there neither the sun’s (extreme heat) nor the moon’s (extreme cold)
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 13
وَدَانِيَةً عَلَيۡهِمۡ ظِلَٰلُهَا وَذُلِّلَتۡ قُطُوفُهَا تَذۡلِيلٗا
And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there will hang low in (their) easy reach
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 14
وَيُطَافُ عَلَيۡهِم بِـَٔانِيَةٖ مِّن فِضَّةٖ وَأَكۡوَابٖ كَانَتۡ قَوَارِيرَا۠
And among them will be passed round containers of silver and glasses of crystal—
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 15
قَوَارِيرَاْ مِن فِضَّةٖ قَدَّرُوهَا تَقۡدِيرٗا
Crystal-clear, made of silver: They will determine the amount in there (according to their wishes)
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 16
وَيُسۡقَوۡنَ فِيهَا كَأۡسٗا كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا زَنجَبِيلًا
And they will be given to drink from a Cup (of drink) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger)—
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 17
عَيۡنٗا فِيهَا تُسَمَّىٰ سَلۡسَبِيلٗا
A fountain there called Salsabil
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 18
۞وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وِلۡدَٰنٞ مُّخَلَّدُونَ إِذَا رَأَيۡتَهُمۡ حَسِبۡتَهُمۡ لُؤۡلُؤٗا مَّنثُورٗا
And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If you were to see them you would think them as pearls scattered about
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 19
وَإِذَا رَأَيۡتَ ثَمَّ رَأَيۡتَ نَعِيمٗا وَمُلۡكٗا كَبِيرًا
And when you look, it is there that you will see a joy and a magnificent kingdom (an immense constellation of beauty)
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 20
عَٰلِيَهُمۡ ثِيَابُ سُندُسٍ خُضۡرٞ وَإِسۡتَبۡرَقٞۖ وَحُلُّوٓاْ أَسَاوِرَ مِن فِضَّةٖ وَسَقَىٰهُمۡ رَبُّهُمۡ شَرَابٗا طَهُورًا
Upon them will be green garments of fine silk and heavy ornaments and they will be decorated with bracelets of silver; And their Lord will give to them to drink a cleansing drink, pure and holy
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 21
إِنَّ هَٰذَا كَانَ لَكُمۡ جَزَآءٗ وَكَانَ سَعۡيُكُم مَّشۡكُورًا
(It will be said to them:) "Surely, this is a reward for you, and your struggle (in life) is accepted and recognized
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 22
إِنَّا نَحۡنُ نَزَّلۡنَا عَلَيۡكَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ تَنزِيلٗا
Verily, it is We Who have sent down the Quran to you by stages
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 23
فَٱصۡبِرۡ لِحُكۡمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تُطِعۡ مِنۡهُمۡ ءَاثِمًا أَوۡ كَفُورٗا
Therefore be patient with uniformity to the Command of your Lord, and do not listen to the sinner or the thankless among them
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 24
وَٱذۡكُرِ ٱسۡمَ رَبِّكَ بُكۡرَةٗ وَأَصِيلٗا
And praise (with joy) the Name of your Lord every morning (Faj’r) and afternoon (Zuh’r and ‘Asr)
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 25
وَمِنَ ٱلَّيۡلِ فَٱسۡجُدۡ لَهُۥ وَسَبِّحۡهُ لَيۡلٗا طَوِيلًا
And part of the night prostrate yourself to Him (Maghrib and Isha prayers) and glorify Him (in predawn prayer) the long night through
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 26
إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ يُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ وَيَذَرُونَ وَرَآءَهُمۡ يَوۡمٗا ثَقِيلٗا
Verily, as to these (thankless), they love the present life of this world, and put away behind them a heavy Day (that will be) hard
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 27
نَّحۡنُ خَلَقۡنَٰهُمۡ وَشَدَدۡنَآ أَسۡرَهُمۡۖ وَإِذَا شِئۡنَا بَدَّلۡنَآ أَمۡثَٰلَهُمۡ تَبۡدِيلًا
It is We Who created them, and We have made their joints strong; And when We (so) wish, We can replace them bringing others like them in their place
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 28
إِنَّ هَٰذِهِۦ تَذۡكِرَةٞۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلٗا
Verily, this (Verse of the Quran) is a warning: So whoever wishes, let him take a (straight) Path to his Lord
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 29
وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمٗا
But you will not except as Allah wishes; Verily, Allah is Ever All Knowing (Aleem), All Wise (Hakeem)
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 30
يُدۡخِلُ مَن يَشَآءُ فِي رَحۡمَتِهِۦۚ وَٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ أَعَدَّ لَهُمۡ عَذَابًا أَلِيمَۢا
He will admit to His Mercy whomever He wishes; But the wrongdoers— For them, He has prepared a painful penalty
Surah Al-Insan, Verse 31
