Surah Al-Fajr - English Translation by Dr Kamal Omar
وَٱلۡفَجۡرِ
Al-Fajr (the break of dawn) acts as a witness
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 1
وَلَيَالٍ عَشۡرٖ
and (also) the night, ten (in number)
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 2
وَٱلشَّفۡعِ وَٱلۡوَتۡرِ
and the even (number), and the odd (number)
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 3
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَسۡرِ
and the (retreating) night when it departs
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 4
هَلۡ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٞ لِّذِي حِجۡرٍ
Is in (all) this an evidence or testimony for a possessor of wisdom
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 5
أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
Have you not seen how your Nourisher-Sustainer dealt with ‘Ad (people) —
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 6
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلۡعِمَادِ
(of the capital-city of) Iram, possessing lofty high-rise buildings
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 7
ٱلَّتِي لَمۡ يُخۡلَقۡ مِثۡلُهَا فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ
such as their like are not constructed (any where) in the cities
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 8
وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُواْ ٱلصَّخۡرَ بِٱلۡوَادِ
and (with) Samud (people), those who hewed and cut rocks in the valley
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 9
وَفِرۡعَوۡنَ ذِي ٱلۡأَوۡتَادِ
and (with) Firaun, famous by the pyramids
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 10
ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ
those people who transgressed beyond limits throughout the cities
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 11
فَأَكۡثَرُواْ فِيهَا ٱلۡفَسَادَ
and they tremendously increased in those (cities) Al-Fasad
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 12
فَصَبَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّكَ سَوۡطَ عَذَابٍ
So your Nourisher-Sustainer let fall over them the whip of punishment
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 13
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلۡمِرۡصَادِ
Surely, your Nourisher-Sustainer is indeed (ever) in Al-Mirsad
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 14
فَأَمَّا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكۡرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَكۡرَمَنِ
As for the human being: when his Nourisher-Sustainer put him to trial and tribulation, and He bestowed upon him honour and bestowed upon him luxuries — then he will say: 'My Rabb has given me honour
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 15
وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَهَٰنَنِ
And so, when, whatever He put him to test and trial: so He bestowed over him his provision just according to bare needs — then he will say: 'My Rabb has humiliated (and disgraced) me
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 16
كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا تُكۡرِمُونَ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ
By no means! Nay, you (on your side) do not treat Al-Yatim with kindness and generosity
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 17
وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ
and urge not for (providing) food to the indigent
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 18
وَتَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكۡلٗا لَّمّٗا
and you devour inheritance — a devouring, absolute and excessive
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 19
وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡمَالَ حُبّٗا جَمّٗا
and you love the wealth with intense love
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 20
كَلَّآۖ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ دَكّٗا دَكّٗا
By no means (it is going to benefit you)! When the (planet) earth is broken up to a (complete) breahead of state up, an (extensive) break-up
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 21
وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلۡمَلَكُ صَفّٗا صَفّٗا
And has come your Nourisher-Sustainer, and (also) the angels in rows, (regular) rows
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 22
وَجِاْيٓءَ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بِجَهَنَّمَۚ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ
And the Hell is brought (very near) that Day. That Day the human being brings to mind the Message (of Allah). And how Az-Zikrah (‘The Admonition’,) benefits him (at such a stage)
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 23
يَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي قَدَّمۡتُ لِحَيَاتِي
He will say: “Alas! Would that I had sent in advance (righteous deeds) for my life (in the new world)
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 24
فَيَوۡمَئِذٖ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٞ
So on that Day — does not give punishment, similar to His punishment, any one
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 25
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٞ
And does not seize, similar to His seizure, any one
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 26
يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفۡسُ ٱلۡمُطۡمَئِنَّةُ
(It will be announced to the Believing, practical Muslims): “O you Nafs in complete satisfaction and serenity
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 27
ٱرۡجِعِيٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةٗ مَّرۡضِيَّةٗ
Come back to your Nourisher-Sustainer — well-pleased (by yourself, and) well-pleasing (unto Allah)
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 28
فَٱدۡخُلِي فِي عِبَٰدِي
So (now) enter among My Ibad
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 29
وَٱدۡخُلِي جَنَّتِي
and enter you My Paradise!”
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 30
