Surah Al-Fajr - English Translation by Syed Vickar Ahamed
وَٱلۡفَجۡرِ
By the break of Day; (Allah swears by the Dawn of the Day)
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 1
وَلَيَالٍ عَشۡرٖ
And by the ten nights
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 2
وَٱلشَّفۡعِ وَٱلۡوَتۡرِ
And by the even and odd (contrasted)
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 3
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَسۡرِ
And by the night when it passes away; —
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 4
هَلۡ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٞ لِّذِي حِجۡرٍ
Is there (not) in these a Sign for those who understand
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 5
أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
Do you not see how your Mighty Lord dealt with the people of 'Ad —
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 6
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلۡعِمَادِ
(And with the people) of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 7
ٱلَّتِي لَمۡ يُخۡلَقۡ مِثۡلُهَا فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ
Which have not been reproduced in (all) the land
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 8
وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُواْ ٱلصَّخۡرَ بِٱلۡوَادِ
And with the people of Samood (Thamud) who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley? —
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 9
وَفِرۡعَوۡنَ ذِي ٱلۡأَوۡتَادِ
And with Firon (Pharaoh), the lord of stakes
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 10
ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ
These (people) exceeded beyond limits in the lands
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 11
فَأَكۡثَرُواْ فِيهَا ٱلۡفَسَادَ
And here (they) piled mischief (upon mischief)
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 12
فَصَبَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّكَ سَوۡطَ عَذَابٍ
Therefore did your Mighty Lord send upon them very lowly punishments
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 13
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلۡمِرۡصَادِ
Because your (Mighty) Lord is (like a Guardian) on a watch tower
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 14
فَأَمَّا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكۡرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَكۡرَمَنِ
Now, as for man, when his Mighty Lord tries him (by) giving him honor and gifts then he (proudly) says, "My Mighty Lord has honored me
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 15
وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَهَٰنَنِ
But when He tries him, (by) restricting his livelihood for him, then he says (in despair), "My Mighty Lord has put me to shame
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 16
كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا تُكۡرِمُونَ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ
No, no! But you do not honor the orphans
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 17
وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ
Nor do you encourage one another to feed the poor! —
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 18
وَتَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكۡلٗا لَّمّٗا
And you (wrongly) consume inheritance— With all (the) greed
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 19
وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡمَالَ حُبّٗا جَمّٗا
And you love wealth with passion
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 20
كَلَّآۖ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ دَكّٗا دَكّٗا
No! When the earth is pounded to powder
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 21
وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلۡمَلَكُ صَفّٗا صَفّٗا
And your Mighty Lord arrives and His angels, rank upon rank
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 22
وَجِاْيٓءَ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بِجَهَنَّمَۚ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ
And on that Day, (when) Hell is brought (face to face), — On that Day will man remember, but (alas!) how will that remembrance profit him
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 23
يَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي قَدَّمۡتُ لِحَيَاتِي
He (the man) will say: "Ah! Had I sent forward (good deeds) for my (future) Life
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 24
فَيَوۡمَئِذٖ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٞ
Because, that Day, his punishment will be such like no one (else) can inflict
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 25
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٞ
And His bonds will be such as none (else) can bind
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 26
يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفۡسُ ٱلۡمُطۡمَئِنَّةُ
(To the righteous person will be said:) "O, (you) soul, with (complete) rest and satisfaction
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 27
ٱرۡجِعِيٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةٗ مَّرۡضِيَّةٗ
Come back you to your Lord,— Well pleased (yourself), and well-pleasing to Him
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 28
فَٱدۡخُلِي فِي عِبَٰدِي
Enter you, among My devotees
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 29
وَٱدۡخُلِي جَنَّتِي
Yes, enter you My heaven
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 30
