Surah Al-Fajr - English Translation by Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim

وَٱلۡفَجۡرِ

By the dawn and its mystery and what it entails of religious rites
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 1

وَلَيَالٍ عَشۡرٖ

By the ten highly esteemed sacred nights
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 2

وَٱلشَّفۡعِ وَٱلۡوَتۡرِ

And by the contrasted yet related, the even and the odd
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 3

وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَسۡرِ

And by the night when it flows along its way, then it softly moves away
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 4

هَلۡ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٞ لِّذِي حِجۡرٍ

Is there not enough assertion in these corroboratory facts for those who ponder
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 5

أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ

Did you not see how Allah, Your Creator, dealt with the people of ‘Ad, the Adites; (said to be fifth generation of descendants of Noah)
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 6

إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلۡعِمَادِ

And with their city of Iram with its lofty and strong architectural pillars imposing, by reason of beauty coupled with magnitude that was indeed grand
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 7

ٱلَّتِي لَمۡ يُخۡلَقۡ مِثۡلُهَا فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ

The like of which was never created in the land
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 8

وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُواْ ٱلصَّخۡرَ بِٱلۡوَادِ

And how He dealt with the people of Thamud, who hewed out of the huge rocks in the valley outstanding buildings
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 9

وَفِرۡعَوۡنَ ذِي ٱلۡأَوۡتَادِ

And how He dealt with Pharaoh who impaled people on the stakes
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 10

ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ

All of whom practiced tyrannies in the land
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 11

فَأَكۡثَرُواْ فِيهَا ٱلۡفَسَادَ

They encouraged mischief therein and promoted an age of discord
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 12

فَصَبَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّكَ سَوۡطَ عَذَابٍ

In consequence did Allah, your Creator, requite them with. painful misfortunes which together with their principles and practice well accord
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 13

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلۡمِرۡصَادِ

Allah your Creator is ever vigilant, He pays off the equivalent
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 14

فَأَمَّا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكۡرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَكۡرَمَنِ

When Allah tests man by crediting him with plenty, he immodestly says: "Allah, my Creator, has ministered to my necessities and honoured me with gratification
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 15

وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَهَٰنَنِ

And when He tests him by restricting his means, he despairingly says: "Allah, my Creator, has disregarded me and reduced me to humiliation
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 16

كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا تُكۡرِمُونَ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ

No, but you do not take good care of the orphan to make him feel comfortable and secure
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 17

وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ

Nor do you encourage benevolence to the indigent who is really poor
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 18

وَتَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكۡلٗا لَّمّٗا

You eat greedily all you can get of the inheritance
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 19

وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡمَالَ حُبّٗا جَمّٗا

And you love to hoard wealth inordinately
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 20

كَلَّآۖ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ دَكّٗا دَكّٗا

No, but indeed when the earth will be severely pounded
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 21

وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلۡمَلَكُ صَفّٗا صَفّٗا

And there come Allah, your Creator, with His angels ranked in row after row
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 22

وَجِاْيٓءَ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بِجَهَنَّمَۚ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ

And then Hell is brought face to face, and there is no escape from the encounter with the infernal hiss and crackle of the flame. Now man remembers his deeds, but how late it is to hope for a better fate
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 23
