Surah Al-Fajr - English Translation by Literal

وَٱلۡفَجۡرِ

And/by the dawn
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 1

وَلَيَالٍ عَشۡرٖ

And/by ten nights
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 2

وَٱلشَّفۡعِ وَٱلۡوَتۡرِ

And/by the double/even number, and the odd/singular/uneven
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 3

وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَسۡرِ

And/by the night when (it) goes/departs
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 4

هَلۡ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٞ لِّذِي حِجۡرٍ

Is in that an oath to (those) of (E) a mind
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 5

أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ

Did you not see/understand how your Lord made/did with Aad
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 6

إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلۡعِمَادِ

Iram that of the pillars/posts
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 7

ٱلَّتِي لَمۡ يُخۡلَقۡ مِثۡلُهَا فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ

Which was not created similar/equal to it in the countries/cities
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 8

وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُواْ ٱلصَّخۡرَ بِٱلۡوَادِ

And Thamud who pierced/penetrated the rock/rock terrain at the valley
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 9

وَفِرۡعَوۡنَ ذِي ٱلۡأَوۡتَادِ

And Pharaoh that of the stakes/pegs/nails
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 10

ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ

Those who tyrannized/exceeded the limit in the countries/cities
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 11

فَأَكۡثَرُواْ فِيهَا ٱلۡفَسَادَ

So they increased (made too much) in it the corruption
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 12

فَصَبَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّكَ سَوۡطَ عَذَابٍ

So your Lord poured on them (the) torture`s intensity/severity
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 13

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلۡمِرۡصَادِ

That truly your Lord (is) at the watch/observation/ambuscade (E)
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 14

فَأَمَّا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكۡرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَكۡرَمَنِ

So but the human/mankind when as long as his Lord tested him, so he honoured him and He blessed/comforted and eased him , so he says: "My Lord honored me
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 15

وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَهَٰنَنِ

And but when as long as He tested him, so He tightened/strained on him His/his provision, so he says: "My Lord humiliated/disgraced/degraded me
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 16

كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا تُكۡرِمُونَ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ

No but, you do not honour/be kind/generous (to) the orphan
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 17

وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ

And nor you urge/insight/influence on feeding the poorest of poor/poor oppressed
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 18

وَتَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكۡلٗا لَّمّٗا

And you eat the inheritance accumulatively/collectively gluttony
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 19

وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡمَالَ حُبّٗا جَمّٗا

And you love/like the property/possession/wealth lovingly excessively
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 20

كَلَّآۖ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ دَكّٗا دَكّٗا

No but, when/if the earth/Planet Earth was hammered down/crushed , crushingly/destroyingly ,crushingly/destroyingly
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 21

وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلۡمَلَكُ صَفّٗا صَفّٗا

And your Lord came and the angels (in) a row/arranged (after) a row/arranged
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 22

وَجِاْيٓءَ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بِجَهَنَّمَۚ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ

And came (on) that day with Hell ; that day the human/mankind remembers/mentions , and from where (is) for him the remembrance/reminder
Surah Al-Fajr, Verse 23
