يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡمُدَّثِّرُ
O THOU, ENWRAPPED in thy mantle
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 1
قُمۡ فَأَنذِرۡ
Arise and warn
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 2
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرۡ
Thy Lord - magnify Him
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 3
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرۡ
Thy raiment - purify it
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 4
وَٱلرُّجۡزَ فَٱهۡجُرۡ
The abomination - flee it
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 5
وَلَا تَمۡنُن تَسۡتَكۡثِرُ
And bestow not favours that thou mayest receive again with increase
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 6
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصۡبِرۡ
And for thy Lord wait thou patiently
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 7
فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي ٱلنَّاقُورِ
For when there shall be a trump on the trumpet
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 8
فَذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَوۡمٌ عَسِيرٌ
That shall be a distressful day
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 9
عَلَى ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ غَيۡرُ يَسِيرٖ
A day, to the Infidels, devoid of ease
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 10
ذَرۡنِي وَمَنۡ خَلَقۡتُ وَحِيدٗا
Leave me alone to deal with him whom I have created
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 11
وَجَعَلۡتُ لَهُۥ مَالٗا مَّمۡدُودٗا
And on whom I have bestowed vast riches
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 12
وَبَنِينَ شُهُودٗا
And sons dwelling before him
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 13
وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمۡهِيدٗا
And for whom I have smoothed all things smoothly down
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 14
ثُمَّ يَطۡمَعُ أَنۡ أَزِيدَ
Yet desireth he that I should add more
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 15
كَلَّآۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِأٓيَٰتِنَا عَنِيدٗا
But no! because to our signs he is a foe
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 16
سَأُرۡهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا
I will lay grievous woes upon him
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 17
إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
For he plotted and he planned
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 18
فَقُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَ
May he be cursed! How he planned
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 19
ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَ
Again, may he be cursed! How he planned
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 20
ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
Then looked he around him
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 21
ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
Then frowned and scowled
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 22
ثُمَّ أَدۡبَرَ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرَ
Then turned his back and swelled with disdain
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 23
فَقَالَ إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحۡرٞ يُؤۡثَرُ
And said, "This is merely magic that will be wrought
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 24
إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوۡلُ ٱلۡبَشَرِ
It is merely the word of a mortal
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 25
سَأُصۡلِيهِ سَقَرَ
We will surely cast him into Hell-fire
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 26
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ
And who shall teach thee what Hell-fire is
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 27
لَا تُبۡقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ
It leaveth nought, it spareth nought
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 28
لَوَّاحَةٞ لِّلۡبَشَرِ
Blackening the skin
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 29
عَلَيۡهَا تِسۡعَةَ عَشَرَ
Over it are nineteen angels
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 30
وَمَا جَعَلۡنَآ أَصۡحَٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةٗۖ وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا عِدَّتَهُمۡ إِلَّا فِتۡنَةٗ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لِيَسۡتَيۡقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَيَزۡدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِيمَٰنٗا وَلَا يَرۡتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٞ وَٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلٗاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهۡدِي مَن يَشَآءُۚ وَمَا يَعۡلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَۚ وَمَا هِيَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرَىٰ لِلۡبَشَرِ
None but angels have we made guardians of the fire: nor have we made this to be their number but to perplex the unbelievers, and that they who possess the Scriptures may be certain of the truth of the Koran, and that they who believe may increase their faith; And that they to whom the Scriptures have been given, and the believers, may not doubt; And that the infirm of heart and the unbelievers may say, What meaneth God by this parable? Thus God misleadeth whom He will, and whom He will doth He guide aright: and none knoweth the armies of thy Lord but Himself: and this is no other than a warning to mankind
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 31
كَلَّا وَٱلۡقَمَرِ
Nay, by the Moon
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 32
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذۡ أَدۡبَرَ
By the Night when it retreateth
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 33
وَٱلصُّبۡحِ إِذَآ أَسۡفَرَ
By the Morn when it brighteneth
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 34
إِنَّهَا لَإِحۡدَى ٱلۡكُبَرِ
Hell is one of the most grievous woes
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 35
نَذِيرٗا لِّلۡبَشَرِ
Fraught with warning to man
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 36
لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمۡ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوۡ يَتَأَخَّرَ
To him among you who desireth to press forward, or to remain behind
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 37
كُلُّ نَفۡسِۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ رَهِينَةٌ
For its own works lieth every soul in pledge
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 38
إِلَّآ أَصۡحَٰبَ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
But they of God's right hand
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 39
فِي جَنَّـٰتٖ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
In their gardens
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 40
عَنِ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ
shall ask of the wicked
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 41
مَا سَلَكَكُمۡ فِي سَقَرَ
What hath cast you into Hell-fire
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 42
قَالُواْ لَمۡ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُصَلِّينَ
They will say, "We were not of those who prayed
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 43
وَلَمۡ نَكُ نُطۡعِمُ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينَ
And we were not of those who fed the poor
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 44
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلۡخَآئِضِينَ
And we plunged into vain disputes with vain disputers
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 45
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ
And we rejected as a lie, the day of reckoning
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 46
حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلۡيَقِينُ
Till the certainty came upon us
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 47
فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمۡ شَفَٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ
And intercession of the interceders shall not avail them
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 48
فَمَا لَهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلتَّذۡكِرَةِ مُعۡرِضِينَ
Then what hath come to them that they turn aside from the Warning
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 49
كَأَنَّهُمۡ حُمُرٞ مُّسۡتَنفِرَةٞ
As if they were affrighted asses
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 50
فَرَّتۡ مِن قَسۡوَرَةِۭ
fleeing from a lion
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 51
بَلۡ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ أَن يُؤۡتَىٰ صُحُفٗا مُّنَشَّرَةٗ
And every one of them would fain have open pages given to him out of Heaven
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 52
كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَ
It shall not be. They fear not the life to come
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 53
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذۡكِرَةٞ
It shall not be. For this Koran is warning enough
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 54
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
And whoso will, it warneth him
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 55
وَمَا يَذۡكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُۚ هُوَ أَهۡلُ ٱلتَّقۡوَىٰ وَأَهۡلُ ٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِ
But not unless God please, shall they be warned. Meet is He to be feared. Meet is forgiveness in Him
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 56
