Surah Al-Muddathir - English Translation by The Monotheist Group Edition
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡمُدَّثِّرُ
O you who are cloaked
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 1
قُمۡ فَأَنذِرۡ
Stand and warn
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 2
وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرۡ
And your Lord magnify
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 3
وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرۡ
And purify your garments
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 4
وَٱلرُّجۡزَ فَٱهۡجُرۡ
And abandon that which afflicts
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 5
وَلَا تَمۡنُن تَسۡتَكۡثِرُ
And do not give for a return
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 6
وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصۡبِرۡ
And to your Lord be patient
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 7
فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي ٱلنَّاقُورِ
So when the horn is sounded
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 8
فَذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمَئِذٖ يَوۡمٌ عَسِيرٌ
That will be a very difficult Day
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 9
عَلَى ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ غَيۡرُ يَسِيرٖ
Upon the rejecters it will not be easy
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 10
ذَرۡنِي وَمَنۡ خَلَقۡتُ وَحِيدٗا
So leave Me alone with he whom I have created
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 11
وَجَعَلۡتُ لَهُۥ مَالٗا مَّمۡدُودٗا
And I gave him abundant wealth
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 12
وَبَنِينَ شُهُودٗا
And sons to bear witness
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 13
وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمۡهِيدٗا
And I made everything comfortable for him
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 14
ثُمَّ يَطۡمَعُ أَنۡ أَزِيدَ
Then he is greedy, wanting that I give more
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 15
كَلَّآۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِأٓيَٰتِنَا عَنِيدٗا
No. He was stubborn to Our revelations
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 16
سَأُرۡهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا
I will exhaust him in ascending
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 17
إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ
He thought and he analyzed
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 18
فَقُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَ
So woe to him for how he thought
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 19
ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيۡفَ قَدَّرَ
Then woe to him for how he thought
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 20
ثُمَّ نَظَرَ
Then he looked
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 21
ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ
Then he frowned and became bad tempered
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 22
ثُمَّ أَدۡبَرَ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرَ
Then he turned away and was arrogant
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 23
فَقَالَ إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحۡرٞ يُؤۡثَرُ
So he said: "This is nothing except the magic of old
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 24
إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوۡلُ ٱلۡبَشَرِ
This is nothing except the saying of a human being
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 25
سَأُصۡلِيهِ سَقَرَ
I will cast him in the scorching heat
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 26
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ
And do you know what is the scorching heat
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 27
لَا تُبۡقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ
It does not spare nor leave anything
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 28
لَوَّاحَةٞ لِّلۡبَشَرِ
A signal to human beings
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 29
عَلَيۡهَا تِسۡعَةَ عَشَرَ
Upon it is nineteen
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 30
وَمَا جَعَلۡنَآ أَصۡحَٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَـٰٓئِكَةٗۖ وَمَا جَعَلۡنَا عِدَّتَهُمۡ إِلَّا فِتۡنَةٗ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لِيَسۡتَيۡقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَيَزۡدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓاْ إِيمَٰنٗا وَلَا يَرۡتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ وَٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٞ وَٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلٗاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهۡدِي مَن يَشَآءُۚ وَمَا يَعۡلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَۚ وَمَا هِيَ إِلَّا ذِكۡرَىٰ لِلۡبَشَرِ
And We have made the guardians of the Fire to be angels; and We did not make their number except as a test for those who have rejected, so that those who were given the Book would understand, and those who have faith would be increased in faith, and so that those who have been given the Book and the believers do not have doubt, and so that those who have a sickness in their hearts and the rejecters would say: "What did God mean with an example such as this?" It is such that God misguides whom He wishes, and He guides whom He wishes. And none know the soldiers of your Lord except He; and it is but a reminder for human beings
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 31
كَلَّا وَٱلۡقَمَرِ
No, by the moon
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 32
وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذۡ أَدۡبَرَ
And by the night when it withdraws
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 33
وَٱلصُّبۡحِ إِذَآ أَسۡفَرَ
And by the morning when it brightens
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 34
إِنَّهَا لَإِحۡدَى ٱلۡكُبَرِ
It is one of the great ones
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 35
نَذِيرٗا لِّلۡبَشَرِ
A warning to human beings
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 36
لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمۡ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوۡ يَتَأَخَّرَ
For any among you who wishes to advance or regress
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 37
كُلُّ نَفۡسِۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ رَهِينَةٌ
Every soul is held by what it earned
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 38
إِلَّآ أَصۡحَٰبَ ٱلۡيَمِينِ
Except for the people of the right
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 39
فِي جَنَّـٰتٖ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
In gardens, they will inquire
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 40
عَنِ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ
About the criminals
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 41
مَا سَلَكَكُمۡ فِي سَقَرَ
What has caused you to be in the scorching heat
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 42
قَالُواْ لَمۡ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُصَلِّينَ
They said: "We were not as those who made the contact prayer
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 43
وَلَمۡ نَكُ نُطۡعِمُ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينَ
And we did not feed the poor person
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 44
وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلۡخَآئِضِينَ
And we used to participate with those who spoke falsehood
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 45
وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ
And we used to deny the Day of Recompense
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 46
حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلۡيَقِينُ
Until the certainty came to us
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 47
فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمۡ شَفَٰعَةُ ٱلشَّـٰفِعِينَ
So no intercession of intercessors could help them
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 48
فَمَا لَهُمۡ عَنِ ٱلتَّذۡكِرَةِ مُعۡرِضِينَ
Why did they turn away from being reminded
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 49
كَأَنَّهُمۡ حُمُرٞ مُّسۡتَنفِرَةٞ
They are like fleeing zebras
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 50
فَرَّتۡ مِن قَسۡوَرَةِۭ
Running from the lion
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 51
بَلۡ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ أَن يُؤۡتَىٰ صُحُفٗا مُّنَشَّرَةٗ
Alas, every one of them wants to be given separate scripts
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 52
كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَ
No, they do not fear the Hereafter
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 53
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذۡكِرَةٞ
No, it is a reminder
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 54
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
So whoever wishes will remember it
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 55
وَمَا يَذۡكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُۚ هُوَ أَهۡلُ ٱلتَّقۡوَىٰ وَأَهۡلُ ٱلۡمَغۡفِرَةِ
And none will remember except if God wills. He is the source of righteousness and the source of forgiveness
Surah Al-Muddathir, Verse 56
