Surah Al-Mursalat - English Translation by Dr Laleh Bakhtiar
وَٱلۡمُرۡسَلَٰتِ عُرۡفٗا
By ones who are sent successively
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 1
فَٱلۡعَٰصِفَٰتِ عَصۡفٗا
by the storm and raging tempest
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 2
وَٱلنَّـٰشِرَٰتِ نَشۡرٗا
by that which causes vegetation to revive, unfolding
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 3
فَٱلۡفَٰرِقَٰتِ فَرۡقٗا
by the ones who separate a separating
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 4
فَٱلۡمُلۡقِيَٰتِ ذِكۡرًا
by ones who cast a remembrance
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 5
عُذۡرًا أَوۡ نُذۡرًا
as excusing or warning
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 6
إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَٰقِعٞ
truly, what you are promised will be that which falls
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 7
فَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ طُمِسَتۡ
Then, when the stars will be obliterated
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 8
وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ فُرِجَتۡ
and when the heaven will be cleaved asunder
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 9
وَإِذَا ٱلۡجِبَالُ نُسِفَتۡ
and when the mountains will be scattered
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 10
وَإِذَا ٱلرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتۡ
and when the time will be set for the Messengers
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 11
لِأَيِّ يَوۡمٍ أُجِّلَتۡ
for which Day were these appointed
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 12
لِيَوۡمِ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ
For the Day of Decision
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 13
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا يَوۡمُ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ
And what would cause thee to recognize what the Day of Decision is
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 14
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ
Woe on that Day to the ones who deny
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 15
أَلَمۡ نُهۡلِكِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
Caused We not the ancient ones to perish
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 16
ثُمَّ نُتۡبِعُهُمُ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ
Again, We will pursue the later ones
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 17
كَذَٰلِكَ نَفۡعَلُ بِٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ
Thus, We accomplish this with the ones who sin
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 18
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ
Woe on that Day to the ones who deny
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 19
أَلَمۡ نَخۡلُقكُّم مِّن مَّآءٖ مَّهِينٖ
Create We you not of despicable water
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 20
فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُ فِي قَرَارٖ مَّكِينٍ
Then, We made it in a secure stopping place
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 21
إِلَىٰ قَدَرٖ مَّعۡلُومٖ
for a known measuring
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 22
فَقَدَرۡنَا فَنِعۡمَ ٱلۡقَٰدِرُونَ
And We measured. How bountiful are the ones who measure
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 23
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ
Woe on that day to the ones who deny
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 24
أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَلِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ كِفَاتًا
Make We not the earth a place of drawing together
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 25
أَحۡيَآءٗ وَأَمۡوَٰتٗا
the living and the lifeless
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 26
وَجَعَلۡنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِيَ شَٰمِخَٰتٖ وَأَسۡقَيۡنَٰكُم مَّآءٗ فُرَاتٗا
We made on it soaring, firm mountains. We satiated you with water of the sweetest kind
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 27
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ
Woe on that Day to the ones who deny
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 28
ٱنطَلِقُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ
Set out toward what you had been in it denying
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 29
ٱنطَلِقُوٓاْ إِلَىٰ ظِلّٖ ذِي ثَلَٰثِ شُعَبٖ
Set out to the shade. It is possessor of three columns
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 30
لَّا ظَلِيلٖ وَلَا يُغۡنِي مِنَ ٱللَّهَبِ
having no shade nor availing you against the flaming
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 31
إِنَّهَا تَرۡمِي بِشَرَرٖ كَٱلۡقَصۡرِ
Truly, it will throw up sparks of fire like the palace
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 32
كَأَنَّهُۥ جِمَٰلَتٞ صُفۡرٞ
as though it was a string of saffron-colored male camels
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 33
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ
Woe on that Day to the ones who deny
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 34
هَٰذَا يَوۡمُ لَا يَنطِقُونَ
This Day they will not speak for themselves
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 35
وَلَا يُؤۡذَنُ لَهُمۡ فَيَعۡتَذِرُونَ
nor will they be given permission so that they make excuses
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 36
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ
Woe on that Day to the ones who deny
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 37
هَٰذَا يَوۡمُ ٱلۡفَصۡلِۖ جَمَعۡنَٰكُمۡ وَٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
This is the Day of Decision; We gathered you and the ancient ones
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 38
فَإِن كَانَ لَكُمۡ كَيۡدٞ فَكِيدُونِ
So if you had been cunning, then, try to outwit Me
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 39
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ
Woe on that Day to the ones who deny
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 40
إِنَّ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ فِي ظِلَٰلٖ وَعُيُونٖ
Truly, the ones who are Godfearing will be amidst shade and springs
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 41
وَفَوَٰكِهَ مِمَّا يَشۡتَهُونَ
and sweet fruit for which they lust
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 42
كُلُواْ وَٱشۡرَبُواْ هَنِيٓـَٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ
Eat and drink wholesomely for what you had been doing
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 43
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجۡزِي ٱلۡمُحۡسِنِينَ
Truly, We, thus, give recompense to the ones who are doers of good
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 44
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ
Woe on that Day to the ones who deny
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 45
كُلُواْ وَتَمَتَّعُواْ قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُم مُّجۡرِمُونَ
Eat, take joy for a little. You are ones who sin
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 46
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ
Woe on that Day to the ones who deny
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 47
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱرۡكَعُواْ لَا يَرۡكَعُونَ
When it will be said: Bow down, they bow not down
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 48
وَيۡلٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ لِّلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ
Woe on that Day to the ones who deny
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 49
فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيثِۭ بَعۡدَهُۥ يُؤۡمِنُونَ
Then, in which discourse after this will they believe
Surah Al-Mursalat, Verse 50
