Surah An-Naba - English Translation by Dr Laleh Bakhtiar
عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
About what demand you of one another
Surah An-Naba, Verse 1
عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
Of the sublime tiding
Surah An-Naba, Verse 2
ٱلَّذِي هُمۡ فِيهِ مُخۡتَلِفُونَ
about which they are ones who are at variance in it
Surah An-Naba, Verse 3
كَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُونَ
No indeed! Soon they will know
Surah An-Naba, Verse 4
ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُونَ
Again, no indeed! Soon they will know
Surah An-Naba, Verse 5
أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَلِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِهَٰدٗا
Make We not the earth for a cradling
Surah An-Naba, Verse 6
وَٱلۡجِبَالَ أَوۡتَادٗا
and the mountains as stakes
Surah An-Naba, Verse 7
وَخَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا
And We created not you in pairs
Surah An-Naba, Verse 8
وَجَعَلۡنَا نَوۡمَكُمۡ سُبَاتٗا
and We made your sleep as a rest
Surah An-Naba, Verse 9
وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلَّيۡلَ لِبَاسٗا
And We made the nighttime as a garment
Surah An-Naba, Verse 10
وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشٗا
And We made the daytime for you to earn a living
Surah An-Naba, Verse 11
وَبَنَيۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمۡ سَبۡعٗا شِدَادٗا
And We built over you seven superior ones
Surah An-Naba, Verse 12
وَجَعَلۡنَا سِرَاجٗا وَهَّاجٗا
And We made a bright, light-giving lamp
Surah An-Naba, Verse 13
وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمُعۡصِرَٰتِ مَآءٗ ثَجَّاجٗا
And We caused to descend that which are clouds bringing rain, water cascading
Surah An-Naba, Verse 14
لِّنُخۡرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبّٗا وَنَبَاتٗا
with which We bring about grain and plants
Surah An-Naba, Verse 15
وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلۡفَافًا
and luxuriant Gardens
Surah An-Naba, Verse 16
إِنَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ كَانَ مِيقَٰتٗا
Truly, the Day of Decision would be a time appointed
Surah An-Naba, Verse 17
يَوۡمَ يُنفَخُ فِي ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأۡتُونَ أَفۡوَاجٗا
a Day the trumpet is blown. Then, you approach in units
Surah An-Naba, Verse 18
وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتۡ أَبۡوَٰبٗا
and the heaven will be let loose and will be all doors
Surah An-Naba, Verse 19
وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ فَكَانَتۡ سَرَابًا
And the mountains will be set in motion and will be as vapor
Surah An-Naba, Verse 20
إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتۡ مِرۡصَادٗا
Truly, hell will be on the watch
Surah An-Naba, Verse 21
لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابٗا
a destination for the ones who are defiant
Surah An-Naba, Verse 22
لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحۡقَابٗا
one who lingers in expectation in it for many years
Surah An-Naba, Verse 23
لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرۡدٗا وَلَا شَرَابًا
They experience in it not any coolness nor any drink
Surah An-Naba, Verse 24
إِلَّا حَمِيمٗا وَغَسَّاقٗا
but scalding water and filth
Surah An-Naba, Verse 25
جَزَآءٗ وِفَاقًا
a suitable recompense
Surah An-Naba, Verse 26
إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ لَا يَرۡجُونَ حِسَابٗا
Truly, they had been not hoping not for a reckoning
Surah An-Naba, Verse 27
وَكَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كِذَّابٗا
and they denied Our signs with a denial
Surah An-Naba, Verse 28
وَكُلَّ شَيۡءٍ أَحۡصَيۡنَٰهُ كِتَٰبٗا
But We counted everything in a Book
Surah An-Naba, Verse 29
فَذُوقُواْ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمۡ إِلَّا عَذَابًا
Experience it! We will never increase you but in punishment
Surah An-Naba, Verse 30
إِنَّ لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا
Truly, for the ones who are Godfearing, there is a place of security
Surah An-Naba, Verse 31
حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعۡنَٰبٗا
fertile gardens and grapevines
Surah An-Naba, Verse 32
وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتۡرَابٗا
and full breasted maidens of the same age
Surah An-Naba, Verse 33
وَكَأۡسٗا دِهَاقٗا
and a cup overflowing
Surah An-Naba, Verse 34
لَّا يَسۡمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغۡوٗا وَلَا كِذَّـٰبٗا
No idle talk will they hear in it nor any denial
Surah An-Naba, Verse 35
جَزَآءٗ مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابٗا
a recompense from thy Lord, a gift, a reckoning
Surah An-Naba, Verse 36
رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِۖ لَا يَمۡلِكُونَ مِنۡهُ خِطَابٗا
from the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of whatever is between them, The Merciful. against Whom they possess no argument
Surah An-Naba, Verse 37
يَوۡمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفّٗاۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنۡ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابٗا
On a Day when the Spirit and the angels will stand up ranged in rows. They will not assert themselves but he to whom the Merciful gave permission and who said what is correct
Surah An-Naba, Verse 38
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡيَوۡمُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا
That is the Day of The Truth; so whoever willed took his Lord to himself as the destination
Surah An-Naba, Verse 39
إِنَّآ أَنذَرۡنَٰكُمۡ عَذَابٗا قَرِيبٗا يَوۡمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مَا قَدَّمَتۡ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلۡكَافِرُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَٰبَۢا
We warned you of a near punishment on a Day when a man will look on what his hands put forward and the ones who are ungrateful will say: O would that I had been earth dust
Surah An-Naba, Verse 40
