Surah An-Naba - English Translation by Ali Quli Qarai
عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
What is it about which they question each other
Surah An-Naba, Verse 1
عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
[Is it] about the great tiding
Surah An-Naba, Verse 2
ٱلَّذِي هُمۡ فِيهِ مُخۡتَلِفُونَ
the one about which they differ
Surah An-Naba, Verse 3
كَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُونَ
No indeed! They will soon know
Surah An-Naba, Verse 4
ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُونَ
Again, no indeed! They will soon know
Surah An-Naba, Verse 5
أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَلِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِهَٰدٗا
Did We not make the earth a resting place
Surah An-Naba, Verse 6
وَٱلۡجِبَالَ أَوۡتَادٗا
and the mountains stakes
Surah An-Naba, Verse 7
وَخَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا
and create you in pairs
Surah An-Naba, Verse 8
وَجَعَلۡنَا نَوۡمَكُمۡ سُبَاتٗا
and make your sleep for rest
Surah An-Naba, Verse 9
وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلَّيۡلَ لِبَاسٗا
and make the night a covering
Surah An-Naba, Verse 10
وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشٗا
and make the day for livelihood
Surah An-Naba, Verse 11
وَبَنَيۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمۡ سَبۡعٗا شِدَادٗا
and build above you the seven mighty heavens
Surah An-Naba, Verse 12
وَجَعَلۡنَا سِرَاجٗا وَهَّاجٗا
and make [the sun for] a radiant lamp
Surah An-Naba, Verse 13
وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمُعۡصِرَٰتِ مَآءٗ ثَجَّاجٗا
and send down water pouring from the rain-clouds
Surah An-Naba, Verse 14
لِّنُخۡرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبّٗا وَنَبَاتٗا
that with it We may bring forth grains and plants
Surah An-Naba, Verse 15
وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلۡفَافًا
and luxuriant gardens
Surah An-Naba, Verse 16
إِنَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ كَانَ مِيقَٰتٗا
Indeed the Day of Judgement is the tryst
Surah An-Naba, Verse 17
يَوۡمَ يُنفَخُ فِي ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأۡتُونَ أَفۡوَاجٗا
the day the Trumpet will be blown, and you will come in groups
Surah An-Naba, Verse 18
وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتۡ أَبۡوَٰبٗا
and the sky will be opened and become gates
Surah An-Naba, Verse 19
وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ فَكَانَتۡ سَرَابًا
and the mountains will be set moving and become a mirage
Surah An-Naba, Verse 20
إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتۡ مِرۡصَادٗا
Indeed hell is an ambush
Surah An-Naba, Verse 21
لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابٗا
a resort for the rebels
Surah An-Naba, Verse 22
لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحۡقَابٗا
to reside therein for ages
Surah An-Naba, Verse 23
لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرۡدٗا وَلَا شَرَابًا
tasting in it neither any coolness nor drink
Surah An-Naba, Verse 24
إِلَّا حَمِيمٗا وَغَسَّاقٗا
except boiling water and pus
Surah An-Naba, Verse 25
جَزَآءٗ وِفَاقًا
—a fitting requital
Surah An-Naba, Verse 26
إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ لَا يَرۡجُونَ حِسَابٗا
Indeed they did not expect any reckoning
Surah An-Naba, Verse 27
وَكَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كِذَّابٗا
and they denied Our signs mendaciously
Surah An-Naba, Verse 28
وَكُلَّ شَيۡءٍ أَحۡصَيۡنَٰهُ كِتَٰبٗا
and We have figured everything in a Book
Surah An-Naba, Verse 29
فَذُوقُواْ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمۡ إِلَّا عَذَابًا
So [now] taste! We shall increase you in nothing but punishment
Surah An-Naba, Verse 30
إِنَّ لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا
Indeed a triumph awaits the Godwary
Surah An-Naba, Verse 31
حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعۡنَٰبٗا
gardens and vineyards
Surah An-Naba, Verse 32
وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتۡرَابٗا
and buxom maidens of a like age
Surah An-Naba, Verse 33
وَكَأۡسٗا دِهَاقٗا
and brimming cups
Surah An-Naba, Verse 34
لَّا يَسۡمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغۡوٗا وَلَا كِذَّـٰبٗا
Therein they shall hear neither vain talk nor lies
Surah An-Naba, Verse 35
جَزَآءٗ مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابٗا
—a reward from your Lord, a bounty sufficing
Surah An-Naba, Verse 36
رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِۖ لَا يَمۡلِكُونَ مِنۡهُ خِطَابٗا
the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the All-beneficent, whom they will not be able to address
Surah An-Naba, Verse 37
يَوۡمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفّٗاۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنۡ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابٗا
on the day when the Spirit and the angels stand in an array. None shall speak except whom the All-beneficent permits and who says what is right
Surah An-Naba, Verse 38
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡيَوۡمُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا
That is the day of truth. So let anyone who wishes take resort with his Lord
Surah An-Naba, Verse 39
إِنَّآ أَنذَرۡنَٰكُمۡ عَذَابٗا قَرِيبٗا يَوۡمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مَا قَدَّمَتۡ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلۡكَافِرُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَٰبَۢا
Indeed We have warned you of a punishment near at hand —the day when a person will observe what his hands have sent ahead and the faithless one will say, ‘I wish I were dust!’
Surah An-Naba, Verse 40
