Surah An-Naba - English Translation by Dr Kamal Omar
عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ
About what they ask one another
Surah An-Naba, Verse 1
عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
About the supreme News
Surah An-Naba, Verse 2
ٱلَّذِي هُمۡ فِيهِ مُخۡتَلِفُونَ
that one: they thereof are those who differ
Surah An-Naba, Verse 3
كَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُونَ
By no means! Soon they will come to know
Surah An-Naba, Verse 4
ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُونَ
Again, (I repeat), by no means! Soon they will come to know
Surah An-Naba, Verse 5
أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَلِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِهَٰدٗا
Have We not made the earth as a bed and abode
Surah An-Naba, Verse 6
وَٱلۡجِبَالَ أَوۡتَادٗا
And the mountains as pegs (to keep the earth stable)
Surah An-Naba, Verse 7
وَخَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا
And We created you in pairs (masculine and feminine)
Surah An-Naba, Verse 8
وَجَعَلۡنَا نَوۡمَكُمۡ سُبَاتٗا
And We made your sleep Subatan (means of rest and revival)
Surah An-Naba, Verse 9
وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلَّيۡلَ لِبَاسٗا
And We made the night as a raiment
Surah An-Naba, Verse 10
وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشٗا
And We established the Day-time for earning livelihood
Surah An-Naba, Verse 11
وَبَنَيۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمۡ سَبۡعٗا شِدَادٗا
And We have built over and above you seven (or many) strongly built (heavens)
Surah An-Naba, Verse 12
وَجَعَلۡنَا سِرَاجٗا وَهَّاجٗا
And We have set a highly shining object emitting bright light (as the sun in the nearest heaven)
Surah An-Naba, Verse 13
وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمُعۡصِرَٰتِ مَآءٗ ثَجَّاجٗا
And We sent down from the laden clouds water, raining heavily
Surah An-Naba, Verse 14
لِّنُخۡرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبّٗا وَنَبَاتٗا
so that We may produce therewith corn and vegetations
Surah An-Naba, Verse 15
وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلۡفَافًا
and gardens of overwhelming growth
Surah An-Naba, Verse 16
إِنَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ كَانَ مِيقَٰتٗا
Verily, Youmul Fasl (the Day of Decision) is (to occur at) a fixed time
Surah An-Naba, Verse 17
يَوۡمَ يُنفَخُ فِي ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأۡتُونَ أَفۡوَاجٗا
The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, so you people would come forth in large groups
Surah An-Naba, Verse 18
وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتۡ أَبۡوَٰبٗا
And the heaven is made opened, so it has turned into gates
Surah An-Naba, Verse 19
وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ فَكَانَتۡ سَرَابًا
And the mountains have been put in motion, so they have become a mirage
Surah An-Naba, Verse 20
إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتۡ مِرۡصَادٗا
Truly, Hell has become a place of ambush
Surah An-Naba, Verse 21
لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابٗا
An abode for At-Taghun (those who cross the limits of beliefs and actions)
Surah An-Naba, Verse 22
لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحۡقَابٗا
abiders therein for ages
Surah An-Naba, Verse 23
لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرۡدٗا وَلَا شَرَابًا
They shall not taste therein anything cool and nor a (palatable) drink
Surah An-Naba, Verse 24
إِلَّا حَمِيمٗا وَغَسَّاقٗا
except boiling water and a dark, murky, stinhead of state liquid —
Surah An-Naba, Verse 25
جَزَآءٗ وِفَاقًا
(as) an exact recompense (to their beliefs and deeds)
Surah An-Naba, Verse 26
إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ لَا يَرۡجُونَ حِسَابٗا
Surely, they had not been loohead of state forward to Accountability
Surah An-Naba, Verse 27
وَكَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كِذَّابٗا
And they rejected and denied Ayaatina in a complete denial
Surah An-Naba, Verse 28
وَكُلَّ شَيۡءٍ أَحۡصَيۡنَٰهُ كِتَٰبٗا
And all things We have censussed and counted in the form of a Record
Surah An-Naba, Verse 29
فَذُوقُواْ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمۡ إِلَّا عَذَابًا
So taste you! So We never provide you an increase except (in the) torment
Surah An-Naba, Verse 30
إِنَّ لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا
Verily, for the Muttaqun is meant the Place of success —
Surah An-Naba, Verse 31
حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعۡنَٰبٗا
orchards and grape-yard
Surah An-Naba, Verse 32
وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتۡرَابٗا
youthful personalities of identical age and nature
Surah An-Naba, Verse 33
وَكَأۡسٗا دِهَاقٗا
and a full cup (containing a non-intoxicating drink)
Surah An-Naba, Verse 34
لَّا يَسۡمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغۡوٗا وَلَا كِذَّـٰبٗا
They shall not listen therein to Laghw, and nor falsehood —
Surah An-Naba, Verse 35
جَزَآءٗ مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابٗا
as a reward from your Nourisher-Sustainer, a gift proportionate (to their performance)
Surah An-Naba, Verse 36
رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِۖ لَا يَمۡلِكُونَ مِنۡهُ خِطَابٗا
Nourisher-Sustainer to the heavens and the earth, and whatever is in between those two, Ar-Rahman. People dare not speak to Him (against His Decision)
Surah An-Naba, Verse 37
يَوۡمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفّٗاۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنۡ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابٗا
The Day Ar-Ruh (Jibriel) and (other) angels will stand forth in rows; people shall not speak except that (whom) Ar-Rahman has permitted unto him (to speak) and he said something commendable
Surah An-Naba, Verse 38
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡيَوۡمُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا
That is Al-Yaumul Haqq. So whosoever desired he picked up to his Nourisher-Sustainer a place of (final) return
Surah An-Naba, Verse 39
إِنَّآ أَنذَرۡنَٰكُمۡ عَذَابٗا قَرِيبٗا يَوۡمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مَا قَدَّمَتۡ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلۡكَافِرُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي كُنتُ تُرَٰبَۢا
Verily We, We have warned you people of a torment very closeby — the Day a man will see what his two hands have sent forth in advance. And the disbeliever will say: “Oh, alas for me! Would that I were dust!”
Surah An-Naba, Verse 40
