Surah An-Naziat - English Translation by Tbirving
وَٱلنَّـٰزِعَٰتِ غَرۡقٗا
By those who snatch [men´s souls] away at their last gasp
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 1
وَٱلنَّـٰشِطَٰتِ نَشۡطٗا
and others who act more nimbly
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 2
وَٱلسَّـٰبِحَٰتِ سَبۡحٗا
as well as those floating by
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 3
فَٱلسَّـٰبِقَٰتِ سَبۡقٗا
and still others racing past
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 4
فَٱلۡمُدَبِّرَٰتِ أَمۡرٗا
to regulate some matter
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 5
يَوۡمَ تَرۡجُفُ ٱلرَّاجِفَةُ
Someday a rumbling will be felt
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 6
تَتۡبَعُهَا ٱلرَّادِفَةُ
another will follow on its heels
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 7
قُلُوبٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ وَاجِفَةٌ
Hearts will be pounding on that day
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 8
أَبۡصَٰرُهَا خَٰشِعَةٞ
their sight will be downcast
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 9
يَقُولُونَ أَءِنَّا لَمَرۡدُودُونَ فِي ٱلۡحَافِرَةِ
They will say: "Will we be restored to our original state
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 10
أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَٰمٗا نَّخِرَةٗ
once we are crumbled bones
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 11
قَالُواْ تِلۡكَ إِذٗا كَرَّةٌ خَاسِرَةٞ
They say: ´That would then be a losing proposition
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 12
فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجۡرَةٞ وَٰحِدَةٞ
There would only be a single rebuke
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 13
فَإِذَا هُم بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ
and then they would never be able to sleep again
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 14
هَلۡ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ مُوسَىٰٓ
Has Moses´ story ever come to you
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 15
إِذۡ نَادَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ بِٱلۡوَادِ ٱلۡمُقَدَّسِ طُوًى
when his Lord called to him by the sacred valley of Tuwa
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 16
ٱذۡهَبۡ إِلَىٰ فِرۡعَوۡنَ إِنَّهُۥ طَغَىٰ
Go off to Pharaoh; he has acted arrogantly
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 17
فَقُلۡ هَل لَّكَ إِلَىٰٓ أَن تَزَكَّىٰ
SAY: ´Would you care to be purified
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 18
وَأَهۡدِيَكَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ فَتَخۡشَىٰ
and for me to guide you to your Lord so you may [learn to] dread [Him]?"´
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 19
فَأَرَىٰهُ ٱلۡأٓيَةَ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰ
He showed him the greatest sign
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 20
فَكَذَّبَ وَعَصَىٰ
Yet he denied and defied it
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 21
ثُمَّ أَدۡبَرَ يَسۡعَىٰ
then he turned away to try his best
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 22
فَحَشَرَ فَنَادَىٰ
He summoned, and called out
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 23
فَقَالَ أَنَا۠ رَبُّكُمُ ٱلۡأَعۡلَىٰ
and said: "I am your supreme Lord
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 24
فَأَخَذَهُ ٱللَّهُ نَكَالَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ وَٱلۡأُولَىٰٓ
God seized him as an example in (both) the Hereafter and from the First [life]
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 25
إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبۡرَةٗ لِّمَن يَخۡشَىٰٓ
In that there lies a lesson for anyone who dreads [retribution]
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 26
ءَأَنتُمۡ أَشَدُّ خَلۡقًا أَمِ ٱلسَّمَآءُۚ بَنَىٰهَا
Were you harder to create, or the sky He has raised
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 27
رَفَعَ سَمۡكَهَا فَسَوَّىٰهَا
He has lifted its canopy up and smoothed it off
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 28
وَأَغۡطَشَ لَيۡلَهَا وَأَخۡرَجَ ضُحَىٰهَا
He darkens its night and brings forth its morning glow
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 29
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ بَعۡدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ
and the earth has He spread out besides
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 30
أَخۡرَجَ مِنۡهَا مَآءَهَا وَمَرۡعَىٰهَا
and produced its water and its pasturage from it
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 31
وَٱلۡجِبَالَ أَرۡسَىٰهَا
The mountains has He anchored
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 32
مَتَٰعٗا لَّكُمۡ وَلِأَنۡعَٰمِكُمۡ
as an enjoyment for you and for your livestock
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 33
فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلطَّآمَّةُ ٱلۡكُبۡرَىٰ
When the greatest calamity comes along
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 34
يَوۡمَ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَا سَعَىٰ
on the day when everyman will remember whatever he has tried to accomplish
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 35
وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلۡجَحِيمُ لِمَن يَرَىٰ
and Hades will loom forth for anyone to see
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 36
فَأَمَّا مَن طَغَىٰ
anyone who has acted arrogantly
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 37
وَءَاثَرَ ٱلۡحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنۡيَا
and preferred worldly life
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 38
فَإِنَّ ٱلۡجَحِيمَ هِيَ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰ
will have Hades for a dwelling place
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 39
وَأَمَّا مَنۡ خَافَ مَقَامَ رَبِّهِۦ وَنَهَى ٱلنَّفۡسَ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰ
Anyone who has been afraid to stand before his Lord and restrained himself from passion
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 40
فَإِنَّ ٱلۡجَنَّةَ هِيَ ٱلۡمَأۡوَىٰ
will have the Garden for a dwelling place
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 41
يَسۡـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرۡسَىٰهَا
They will ask you about the Hour: "When will it come to pass
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 42
فِيمَ أَنتَ مِن ذِكۡرَىٰهَآ
Why are you reminding us about it
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 43
إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ مُنتَهَىٰهَآ
It lies up to your Lord to set it
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 44
إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخۡشَىٰهَا
You are merely a warner for anyone who dreads it
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 45
كَأَنَّهُمۡ يَوۡمَ يَرَوۡنَهَا لَمۡ يَلۡبَثُوٓاْ إِلَّا عَشِيَّةً أَوۡ ضُحَىٰهَا
just as some day they shall see they have hung around for only an evening, or its morning glow
Surah An-Naziat, Verse 46
