عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
He frowned and turned away
Surah Abasa, Verse 1
أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ
that the blind man came to him
Surah Abasa, Verse 2
وَمَا يُدۡرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ
And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him
Surah Abasa, Verse 3
أَوۡ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰٓ
or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him
Surah Abasa, Verse 4
أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ
But the self-sufficient
Surah Abasa, Verse 5
فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ
to him thou attendest
Surah Abasa, Verse 6
وَمَا عَلَيۡكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ
though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself
Surah Abasa, Verse 7
وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسۡعَىٰ
And he who comes to thee eagerly
Surah Abasa, Verse 8
وَهُوَ يَخۡشَىٰ
and fearfully
Surah Abasa, Verse 9
فَأَنتَ عَنۡهُ تَلَهَّىٰ
to him thou payest no heed
Surah Abasa, Verse 10
كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذۡكِرَةٞ
No indeed; it is a Reminder
Surah Abasa, Verse 11
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
and whoso wills, shall remember it
Surah Abasa, Verse 12
فِي صُحُفٖ مُّكَرَّمَةٖ
upon pages high-honoured
Surah Abasa, Verse 13
مَّرۡفُوعَةٖ مُّطَهَّرَةِۭ
uplifted, purified
Surah Abasa, Verse 14
بِأَيۡدِي سَفَرَةٖ
by the hands of scribes
Surah Abasa, Verse 15
كِرَامِۭ بَرَرَةٖ
noble, pious
Surah Abasa, Verse 16
قُتِلَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَآ أَكۡفَرَهُۥ
Perish Man! How unthankful he is
Surah Abasa, Verse 17
مِنۡ أَيِّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ
Of what did He create him
Surah Abasa, Verse 18
مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ
Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him
Surah Abasa, Verse 19
ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ
then the way eased for him
Surah Abasa, Verse 20
ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقۡبَرَهُۥ
then makes him to die, and buries him
Surah Abasa, Verse 21
ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ
then, when He wills, He raises him
Surah Abasa, Verse 22
كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقۡضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ
No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding
Surah Abasa, Verse 23
فَلۡيَنظُرِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ
Let Man consider his nourishment
Surah Abasa, Verse 24
أَنَّا صَبَبۡنَا ٱلۡمَآءَ صَبّٗا
We poured out the rains abundantly
Surah Abasa, Verse 25
ثُمَّ شَقَقۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ شَقّٗا
then We split the earth in fissures
Surah Abasa, Verse 26
فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِيهَا حَبّٗا
and therein made the grains to grow
Surah Abasa, Verse 27
وَعِنَبٗا وَقَضۡبٗا
and vines, and reeds
Surah Abasa, Verse 28
وَزَيۡتُونٗا وَنَخۡلٗا
and olives, and palms
Surah Abasa, Verse 29
وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلۡبٗا
and dense-tree'd gardens
Surah Abasa, Verse 30
وَفَٰكِهَةٗ وَأَبّٗا
and fruits, and pastures
Surah Abasa, Verse 31
مَّتَٰعٗا لَّكُمۡ وَلِأَنۡعَٰمِكُمۡ
an enjoyment for you and your flocks
Surah Abasa, Verse 32
فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ
And when the Blast shall sound
Surah Abasa, Verse 33
يَوۡمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مِنۡ أَخِيهِ
upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother
Surah Abasa, Verse 34
وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ
his mother, his father
Surah Abasa, Verse 35
وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ
his consort, his sons
Surah Abasa, Verse 36
لِكُلِّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ شَأۡنٞ يُغۡنِيهِ
every man that day shall have business to suffice him
Surah Abasa, Verse 37
وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ مُّسۡفِرَةٞ
Some faces on that day shall shine
Surah Abasa, Verse 38
ضَاحِكَةٞ مُّسۡتَبۡشِرَةٞ
laughing, joyous
Surah Abasa, Verse 39
وَوُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٍ عَلَيۡهَا غَبَرَةٞ
some faces on that day shall be dusty
Surah Abasa, Verse 40
تَرۡهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ
o'erspread with darkness
Surah Abasa, Verse 41
أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡكَفَرَةُ ٱلۡفَجَرَةُ
those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines
Surah Abasa, Verse 42
