Surah Abasa - English Translation by Al Bilal Muhammad Et Al
عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
He frowned and turned away
Surah Abasa, Verse 1
أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ
Because there came to him the blind man
Surah Abasa, Verse 2
وَمَا يُدۡرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ
But how could you know whether he might be purified
Surah Abasa, Verse 3
أَوۡ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰٓ
Or that he might receive advice, and the teaching might profit him
Surah Abasa, Verse 4
أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ
As for one who regards Himself as self-sufficient
Surah Abasa, Verse 5
فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ
To him you attend
Surah Abasa, Verse 6
وَمَا عَلَيۡكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ
Though it is no blame on you if he grows not
Surah Abasa, Verse 7
وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسۡعَىٰ
But as to him who came to you striving earnestly
Surah Abasa, Verse 8
وَهُوَ يَخۡشَىٰ
And with consciousness
Surah Abasa, Verse 9
فَأَنتَ عَنۡهُ تَلَهَّىٰ
Of him were you unmindful
Surah Abasa, Verse 10
كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذۡكِرَةٞ
By no means should this be so, for it is indeed a message of instruction
Surah Abasa, Verse 11
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
So whosoever wills, may ponder it
Surah Abasa, Verse 12
فِي صُحُفٖ مُّكَرَّمَةٖ
In books held in honor
Surah Abasa, Verse 13
مَّرۡفُوعَةٖ مُّطَهَّرَةِۭ
Exalted and purified
Surah Abasa, Verse 14
بِأَيۡدِي سَفَرَةٖ
By the hands of scribes
Surah Abasa, Verse 15
كِرَامِۭ بَرَرَةٖ
Honorable, pious and just
Surah Abasa, Verse 16
قُتِلَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَآ أَكۡفَرَهُۥ
Woe to humanity, what has made them reject God
Surah Abasa, Verse 17
مِنۡ أَيِّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ
From what has He created them
Surah Abasa, Verse 18
مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ
From a zygote, He has created him, and then molds them in due proportions
Surah Abasa, Verse 19
ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ
Then He makes his path smooth for him
Surah Abasa, Verse 20
ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقۡبَرَهُۥ
Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave
Surah Abasa, Verse 21
ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ
Then, when it is His will, He will raise him up
Surah Abasa, Verse 22
كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقۡضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ
By no means has he fulfilled what God has asked of him
Surah Abasa, Verse 23
فَلۡيَنظُرِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ
Then let the human being look at his food
Surah Abasa, Verse 24
أَنَّا صَبَبۡنَا ٱلۡمَآءَ صَبّٗا
And that We pour out water in abundance
Surah Abasa, Verse 25
ثُمَّ شَقَقۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ شَقّٗا
And We split the earth into pieces
Surah Abasa, Verse 26
فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِيهَا حَبّٗا
And produce therein corn
Surah Abasa, Verse 27
وَعِنَبٗا وَقَضۡبٗا
Grapes and nutritious plants
Surah Abasa, Verse 28
وَزَيۡتُونٗا وَنَخۡلٗا
Olives and dates
Surah Abasa, Verse 29
وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلۡبٗا
And enclosed gardens, dense with lofty trees
Surah Abasa, Verse 30
وَفَٰكِهَةٗ وَأَبّٗا
And fruits and fodder
Surah Abasa, Verse 31
مَّتَٰعٗا لَّكُمۡ وَلِأَنۡعَٰمِكُمۡ
For use and convenience for you and your livestock
Surah Abasa, Verse 32
فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ
Then when there comes the deafening noise
Surah Abasa, Verse 33
يَوۡمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مِنۡ أَخِيهِ
The day one will flee from his own brother
Surah Abasa, Verse 34
وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ
And from his mother and his father
Surah Abasa, Verse 35
وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ
And from his wife and children
Surah Abasa, Verse 36
لِكُلِّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ شَأۡنٞ يُغۡنِيهِ
Each one of them, that day, will have enough concern to make him indifferent to the others
Surah Abasa, Verse 37
وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ مُّسۡفِرَةٞ
Some faces that day will be beaming
Surah Abasa, Verse 38
ضَاحِكَةٞ مُّسۡتَبۡشِرَةٞ
Laughing, rejoicing
Surah Abasa, Verse 39
وَوُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٍ عَلَيۡهَا غَبَرَةٞ
And other faces that day will be dust-stained
Surah Abasa, Verse 40
تَرۡهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ
Darkness will cover them
Surah Abasa, Verse 41
أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡكَفَرَةُ ٱلۡفَجَرَةُ
Such will be the rejecters of God, the immoral
Surah Abasa, Verse 42
