Surah Abasa - English Translation by Ali Bakhtiari Nejad
عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ
He frowned and turned away
Surah Abasa, Verse 1
أَن جَآءَهُ ٱلۡأَعۡمَىٰ
because the blind man came to him
Surah Abasa, Verse 2
وَمَا يُدۡرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُۥ يَزَّكَّىٰٓ
And how would you know, he may purify himself
Surah Abasa, Verse 3
أَوۡ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنفَعَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰٓ
or take notice, so the reminder would benefit him
Surah Abasa, Verse 4
أَمَّا مَنِ ٱسۡتَغۡنَىٰ
But whoever supposes he has no need
Surah Abasa, Verse 5
فَأَنتَ لَهُۥ تَصَدَّىٰ
then you pay attention to him
Surah Abasa, Verse 6
وَمَا عَلَيۡكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ
while it is not your responsibility if he did not purify
Surah Abasa, Verse 7
وَأَمَّا مَن جَآءَكَ يَسۡعَىٰ
But whoever comes to you rushing
Surah Abasa, Verse 8
وَهُوَ يَخۡشَىٰ
and he fears (God)
Surah Abasa, Verse 9
فَأَنتَ عَنۡهُ تَلَهَّىٰ
then you pay no attention to him
Surah Abasa, Verse 10
كَلَّآ إِنَّهَا تَذۡكِرَةٞ
No way, it (Quran) is a reminder
Surah Abasa, Verse 11
فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ
and anyone who wants takes notice from it
Surah Abasa, Verse 12
فِي صُحُفٖ مُّكَرَّمَةٖ
In honored scriptures
Surah Abasa, Verse 13
مَّرۡفُوعَةٖ مُّطَهَّرَةِۭ
elevated and purified
Surah Abasa, Verse 14
بِأَيۡدِي سَفَرَةٖ
by the hands of ambassadors/scribes
Surah Abasa, Verse 15
كِرَامِۭ بَرَرَةٖ
noble and good
Surah Abasa, Verse 16
قُتِلَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مَآ أَكۡفَرَهُۥ
Damn the human being, how ungrateful he is
Surah Abasa, Verse 17
مِنۡ أَيِّ شَيۡءٍ خَلَقَهُۥ
What did He create him from
Surah Abasa, Verse 18
مِن نُّطۡفَةٍ خَلَقَهُۥ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ
He created him from a fertilized egg (Zygote), then proportioned him
Surah Abasa, Verse 19
ثُمَّ ٱلسَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُۥ
Then He made the way easy for him
Surah Abasa, Verse 20
ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُۥ فَأَقۡبَرَهُۥ
Then He made him die and had him buried
Surah Abasa, Verse 21
ثُمَّ إِذَا شَآءَ أَنشَرَهُۥ
Then He raises him when He wants
Surah Abasa, Verse 22
كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقۡضِ مَآ أَمَرَهُۥ
No way, he did not fulfill what He ordered him
Surah Abasa, Verse 23
فَلۡيَنظُرِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِۦٓ
So the human being should look at his food
Surah Abasa, Verse 24
أَنَّا صَبَبۡنَا ٱلۡمَآءَ صَبّٗا
Indeed We poured the rain as shower
Surah Abasa, Verse 25
ثُمَّ شَقَقۡنَا ٱلۡأَرۡضَ شَقّٗا
then We split open the earth as cracks
Surah Abasa, Verse 26
فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِيهَا حَبّٗا
then We made grain grow in it
Surah Abasa, Verse 27
وَعِنَبٗا وَقَضۡبٗا
and grapes and vegetable
Surah Abasa, Verse 28
وَزَيۡتُونٗا وَنَخۡلٗا
and olive and date
Surah Abasa, Verse 29
وَحَدَآئِقَ غُلۡبٗا
and fenced gardens with lots of trees
Surah Abasa, Verse 30
وَفَٰكِهَةٗ وَأَبّٗا
and fruit and grass
Surah Abasa, Verse 31
مَّتَٰعٗا لَّكُمۡ وَلِأَنۡعَٰمِكُمۡ
an enjoyment for you and your livestock
Surah Abasa, Verse 32
فَإِذَا جَآءَتِ ٱلصَّآخَّةُ
So when the deafening blast comes
Surah Abasa, Verse 33
يَوۡمَ يَفِرُّ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مِنۡ أَخِيهِ
a day when the man runs away from his brother
Surah Abasa, Verse 34
وَأُمِّهِۦ وَأَبِيهِ
and his mother and his father
Surah Abasa, Verse 35
وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَبَنِيهِ
and his spouse and his sons (children)
Surah Abasa, Verse 36
لِكُلِّ ٱمۡرِيٕٖ مِّنۡهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ شَأۡنٞ يُغۡنِيهِ
on that day every one of them has an issue occupying him
Surah Abasa, Verse 37
وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ مُّسۡفِرَةٞ
On that day (some) faces are bright
Surah Abasa, Verse 38
ضَاحِكَةٞ مُّسۡتَبۡشِرَةٞ
laughing and joyful
Surah Abasa, Verse 39
وَوُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٍ عَلَيۡهَا غَبَرَةٞ
And on that day (other) faces have dust on them
Surah Abasa, Verse 40
تَرۡهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ
darkness covers it
Surah Abasa, Verse 41
أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡكَفَرَةُ ٱلۡفَجَرَةُ
they are the disbelievers, the immoral ones
Surah Abasa, Verse 42
